Third Sunday of Easter April 18th & April 19th, 2015 ST. JUDE THE APOSTLE CATHOLIC CHURCH Established 1966 9150 Highland Road Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70810 (On the Corner of Highland Road and Gardere Lane) St. Jude the Apostle Church, as a Catholic Faith Community, strives to spread the love of Christ by embracing our diversity of God-given gifts celebrated in prayer, sacraments, Eucharistic worship, fellowship, religious education, and service to the local and world community. St. Jude Parish Advisory Council: March 15, 2006 Diocese of Baton Rouge to Begin Parish Visitations In keeping with its mission the Pastoral Planning Task Force of the Diocese of Baton Rouge has developed a process for dialogue with Catholic laity which will begin in late April. The goal of this process is to give every parish in our diocese the opportunity to re lect on its own vitality and how that vitality can be strengthened as we look to the future, given the number of priests available for ministerial service. Prior to making visits to every parish the Task Force will pilot this process in 3 parishes of the diocese: Most Blessed Sacrament in Baton Rouge, Immaculate Conception in Scotlandville, and the Churches of East St. James (Sacred Heart, St. Joseph, and St. Michael the Archangel) located in Gramercy, Paulina, and Convent respectively. It was determined by the Task Force that it would be good to pilot this process in a suburban, urban, and rural setting. These 3 communities were chosen, simply because they are representative of the diocese as a whole. Once the pilot process has been completed, the Task Force will adjust the components as necessary and then begin going to all other parishes in our diocese. The current plan is for parish visitations to be conducted from June to August of this year. The Task Force will then take late Summer and Fall to review the results and then bring the inal report to Bishop Muench in December. (As chair of the task force, Father Trey invites our prayers for this very important effort. Please look for more details in the April 17 edition of the Catholic Commentator newspaper.) Daily Masses Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 8:15am Tuesday at 5:30pm (followed by Benediction and Adoration) Wednesday at noon also Weekend Masses Saturday 4:00pm Vigil Sunday at 8:00am, 9:45am, and 11:30am The Sacrament of Reconciliation Saturdays from 3:00pm-3:45pm or by appointment Parish Contact Information Parish Office Phone 225-766-2431 Parish Office Fax 225-766-0722 School Phone 225-769-2344 Parish Website www.stjudecatholic.org School Website www.stjudebr.org Fr. FROM THE TEE BOX A Few Thoughts from Our Pastor Dear Friends: From the Tee Box! April 18-19, 2015 The Third Sunday of Easter Last Saturday our First Eucharist students came together for their annual retreat and then joined us for the 4:00pm Vigil Mass. I had the opportunity to visit with them, and all I can say is that they were filled with energy! Being with them truly made my day. Thank you again to Melanie Chabarria (our Director of Christian Formation), our catechists, and all of our parents who helped out during the retreat! This Sunday I have the special treat of celebrating First Eucharist with my nephew, Brendan, at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, and then the week after that we will have our celebration here at Saint Jude. I am really looking forward to it! Have a great week! Sincerely, Fr. Trey Nelson Pastor Commemorative Bottles of Wine To celebrate the beautiful church renovation and to launch the new St. Jude Church website, we are selling commemorative bottles of wine. Both a Merlot and a Chardonnay are available, each with a distinctive picture of the new church. $25 per bottle. Please stop by the church office to purchase your wine..while supplies last. The Catholic Home Missions Appeal will take place next week. One way that this appeal works to strengthen home mission dioceses in the United States is by funding seminarian formation in poor dioceses. The blessing of seminarians places a financial burden on these dioceses, where educating each seminarian costs $35-40K per year. Your support is needed for these young men so that they might go back and serve their parishes. Please strengthen the Church at home by making a generous gift to next week s appeal.
KC APRIL FAMILY OF THE MONTH The Knights of Columbus Council 9692 have named Jeremy and Kimberly McDaniel as the honorees for the April 2015 Family of the Month Award. Parishioners are asked to join Fr. Trey and Grand Knight Eddie Guidry in presenting the award at a coffee and donuts reception in the cafeteria immediately following the 8:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, April 26, 2015. As soon as Jeremy and Kimberly joined St. Jude in 2008, they began joining ministries and meeting fellow parishioners. Jeremy is a member of the St. Jude Men s Club and has worked on numerous projects for the parish. He has already begun teaching their son William to volunteer by allowing him to help with the Men s Club Lenten Fish Fries. Kimberly was the Play and Pray chairperson and initiated the first-baby family food program within that ministry. She also volunteers in the Hospitality ministry. Together they belong and participate in the Family Life Ministry, the annual Giving Tree project and the Gardere Initiative Partnership Ministry. They both have worked the fair since they joined St. Jude. Kimberly was on the Fair Core Committee as auction cochairperson for several years; Jeremy has also been on the core committee now for several years as the vice-chair of the fair bank. They are both St. Jude school volunteers. Kimberly is the SJ Home and School Association Community Campaign assistant, a Pre-K room mom, reads in the library to the children several times during the year and chairs the Teacher Appreciation Week breakfast. St. Jude is fortunate to have young professionals like Jeremy and Kimberly who give so much of their valuable time volunteering. Jeremy and Kimberly have two children, William, who is in the first grade at St. Jude and Madeline, who is in Pre-K. Congratulations to Jeremy and Kimberly on being recognized as the recipients of the April Family of the Month Award. We thank you for blessing St. Jude with your dedicated and loyal service to our parish community. The Knights of Columbus sponsors the parish Family of the Month Award and aims at naming a family who serves as an inspiration to parish and community life in supporting and strengthening Christ s family. Mr. Bill Wilhelm chairs the committee. Promote your church parish! St. Jude has received a lot of community praise for our renovated church. Now you can show your support while showing off your church in a fun way. We are selling beautiful sets of glasses etched with our new church. $20 for a set of 4. The glasses can be purchased at the church office. For Prayer Request Call our Prayer Line, 766-3668 or 766-3736

Culture of Life Reflection "All Christians and people of good will are thus called today to struggle for abolition of the death penalty." --Pope Francis, October 22, 2014 Keys...Keys...Keys! Now that the parish hall is our only meeting space, it is especially important that keys are returned to the church office after your ministry uses them. We want to be sure we always have a key for the next ministry's use. Thanks for your cooperation.
