Volume 23, Issue 11 December 2017 A Candyland Christmas December 4 This year s family Christmas party will be held on Monday, December 4 from 6:00-8:00 pm. The youth department will be decorated with a Candyland theme this year. Snowstorm Steve, a funologist from Silly Safaris, will share humor and animals including a reindeer during two programs. The first program will begin at 6:15 and the second at 7:15. Santa Claus will be available through the evening to hear Christmas wish requests and take photos. Magician Marc Lehmann will astound visitors with magic as they wait to see Santa. Children will be able to choose a craft and a free book to take home at the end of the night. Refreshments will be available for children and their families. This evening of family fun is open to the public and registration is not required. We hope to see you December 4! Christmas Tea at Thorntown Heritage Museum Tis the season for an old fashioned Christmas Tea! On Saturday, December 9 from 2-4 p.m. the Thorntown Heritage Museum will host its annual Victorian celebration. Everyone is cordially invited. Formal attire is encouraged, but jeans are also welcome. New this year - visit with Santa during our tea! Bring your camera for family photos. Each room will include a Christmas game, a special project, or another fun activity. In the cozy kitchen you will find an assortment of delicious teas, lemonade, cookies, and cake. Children may even select a gift from under our beautiful tree to take home with them. Stop in the museum located at 124 West Main Street anytime between 2-4 p.m. For more information, please call the library. Holiday hours: The library will be closed on December 23rd through 25th for Christmas. We will also be closed on Monday, January 1st.

PAGE 2 Merry Grinchmas! Feeling like a Grinch? We have a new youth program for you! Come celebrate the holidays with us, Grinch-style! Meet the Grinch and get your picture taken with him. Join in on some games and crafts then watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas and enjoy some grinchy snacks straight from Whoville! Santa will also be available to hear Christmas wishes and have photos taken with children - bring your cameras! We ll celebrate Grinchmas on December 18th from 6:00-7:00 in library meeting rooms. December Book Discussion: The Day I Died December s book discussion selection is The Day I Died by Lori Rader-Day. Anna Winger is a handwriting analyst who keeps the real mess of other people s lives at arm s length. She uses her expertise to help companies hire trustworthy employees; she helps the lovelorn try to find happiness. When local law enforcement in her small town reaches out for her help, she finds herself becoming too involved in the case. The Day I Died is Lori s third novel. All are welcome to join the group, even if they haven t finished reading the book. Light refreshments will be served, and discussions usually last one hour. Copies are available for checkout at the adult circulation desk. Homemade Christmas Gifts Which Will Go Down In History Due to the busyness of the holiday season, we are offering our genealogy class in a new format. Best Family History Gifts is the holiday theme. Information and pictures have been printed and arranged in a folder that is available at the Genealogy desk - take a look at your convenience. Browse through examples of presents fellow family historians have made. You can also pick up a Genealogy Beginner s Kit to get you started tracing your family history; it includes genealogy tips and a basic pedigree chart. For more information please call the library and ask for Phyllis. We ll gladly accept donations of cookies for our Dec. 4 Christmas program. Call Becki at the library if you d like to contribute!
