From Our Pastor... Good News! There are so many signs of the Holy Spirit s Presence and activity here at St. Clare. From the children s choirs singing at Mass to our Seniors promoting fellowship with hilarious horse races to our school s many successes, there is much to celebrate! But we also have several exciting new possibilities and dreams that we want to share with you. I will be leading a dialogue for all parishioners at a Town Hall Gathering Thursday, March 15 7:00 PM Fellowship Hall At this gathering, I will be sharing really good news and seeking your input regarding three major topics: Young Adult Initiative St. Clare was selected for a generous grant! Diocesan Partnership with St. Nicholas Parish Updates and Plans A very much needed new Parish Office Building Please join us for this important parish night of good news and open dialogue about these three topics! Together let us keep praying for the Holy Spirit to guide us toward becoming the best possible parish in service of God and His Kingdom. God s Peace be with you, Fr. Jim Deiters PS: I will be away this week for a much needed vacation of rest. Thanks for keeping me in your prayers as I will you. The Lord provides for our thirst with His word and the Spirit. Moses followed God s call and provided water through the rock. The Samaritan woman found her thirst quenched by a greater water. If we follow our call to holiness, our vocation, each day, we will also be quenched. For more information, please contact Ken & Barb Kenney 618-726-7587 or kj_kenney@sbcglobal.net

This month at St. Clare we join in communion with the enɵre Church community during our 24-hour monthly EucharisƟc AdoraƟon on March 4-5, praying for the intenɵons of Pope Francis, which can be read in whole at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops usccb.org website or on our website stclarechurch.org. Every Lent the Church throughout the world celebrates the ScruƟnies to help the Elect prepare to be iniɵated into the Catholic Church at Easter through BapƟsm, ConfirmaƟon and the Eucharist. These minor exorcisms help strengthen the Elect on their journey as well as reveal to them the areas of their life that sɵll need to be illumined by God s grace. The Church asks the congregaɵon to parɵcipate in these ScruƟnies as well through our prayer and support. They also serve as moments for us to examine our own lives. In preparaɵon for the ScruƟny on Sunday, March 11 at the 8:30 a.m. Mass, you are encouraged to reflect on the following quesɵons: What goodness in your life might shine forth more brightly? What light do you already shine on others? What parts of your life are hidden in shadows? What are you blind to seeing? Have you ever felt rejected or marginalized by others? Have you ever marginalized or do you marginalize others? What darkness in your life needs the enlightenment of Christ and the Gospel? What is it that you long to see, to know, to understand? Cursillo in Christianity Retreats Men: March 8 11 Women: March 15 18 At the Adorers of the Blood of Christ Peace Center, Ruma, IL Cursillo In Christianity is a worldwide movement of the Catholic laity. If you long for a closer, life-long friendship with Jesus, please prayerfully consider attending. For more information or to register, contact Steve Hellmann at 618-624-3071 or bellevillecursillo.org. Because of the increase of iniquity, the love of many will grow cold (Mt 24:12) In his 2018 Lenten Message, (found on our website) Pope Francis calls us to reflect on these words of Jesus in the Gospel of MaƩhew. Please sign up for an hour of EucharisƟc AdoraƟon on the sign up sheets in the Gathering Space or just come by. A Special Opportunity for Men Come to the next Men s Welcome Weekend April 28 29 It s an incredible experience that will help you discover what s missing in your life and what to do about it. Whether you want to connect with other men in the parish, improve your prayer life, or just take a break from the craziness of your everyday life, you will find what you are looking for...and more!

The Holy Spirit was definitely present with us and all were inspired by the events of the weekend. We would also like to thank the many people who donated food for the retreat plus all those volunteers who cooked awesome meals for us. In addi on, we specifically would like to thank McAlister's for their dona on of potatoes and tea. Please support the generous places in our community which provide these dona ons. Ellen Gravlin Could God Love Someone Like Me? Fr. Mike Schmitz, one of the leading presenters in the Church today, speaks powerfully about the Sacrament of Reconciliation. He makes clear the truth that Christ deeply loves us and wants to encounter each of us as we are, with all our imperfections. Fr. Mike debunks the lies we often believe about not being good enough to approach Jesus, and he draws upon Scripture to explain rationally why we go to priests to encounter God s mercy and forgiveness in Confession. A great talk to grow closer to Jesus this Lent!
