For more info. please contact Natalie Kathol at faithform@blessedsacrament-sandiego.org or (619) 582-5722 ext. 124 Jubilee Year of Mercy August 28, 2016 Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time "Alms atone for sins" (Sirach 2:29). Alms are mercy translated into hands-on compassion. Jesus confirms Sirach's wisdom, "Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy" (Matthew 5:7). "Conduct your affairs with humility" (Sirach 3:17). Humility: we're all alike and special, for we're children of God. Jesus confirms that wisdom, too: "Do not recline at table in the place of honor. Take the lowest place" (Luke 14:8, 10). Mercy is measured not by our delight in welcoming those we like most or who can repay us best, but by sincerely embracing those we like least, who cannot repay us at all. Utter humility inspires pure mercy; pure mercy leads to eternal joy. --Peter Scagnelli, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. Fr. Jon s Trip to Korea Over the course of nine days Aug 8-17, Fr. Jon was in Korea participating in two conferences. The first was with 14 of his fellow SVD missiology professors who came together to plan a new book with the title: Engaging Glocal Contexts Through Missionary Discipleship. The second was an international ecumenical conference on "Conversions and Transformations: Missiological Approaches to Religious Change organized by the International Association of Mission Studies (IAMS). This meeting of over 400 scholars takes place every four years in different parts of the world. Fr. Jon s paper, Religious Diversity and Conflict Styles was one out of 160 scholarly papers presented amid a recordbreaking heatwave. Exposure experiences included trips to megachurches, special ministries (e.g., helping North Korean defectors), the DMZ, the Juldusan Martyrdom Monument, the Myungdong Cathedral, and the Gyungbok Palace and ethnological museum. Fr. Jon says he is glad to be back in cool SD. Fr. Jon s Interculturality Ministry Fr. Jon will travel to the Gulf Coast next week (6-9 Sept) to give a workshop on Interculturality to a group of SVD missionaries working in our Southern Province of the USA. He offers such workshops as one of his tasks as a member of the Intercultural Resource Committee of the Society and will offer one for BSP in the months ahead. Daily Prayer for Our Priests O Jesus, I pray for your faithful and fervent priests; for your unfaithful & tepid priests; for your priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields; for your tempted priests; for your lonely & desolate priests; for your young priests; for your dying priests; for the souls of your priests in Purgatory. But above all, I recommend to you the priests dearest to me: the priest who baptized me, the priests who absolved me from my sins, the priests at whose Masses I assisted & who gave me Your body & blood in Communion, the priests to whom I am indebted any other way especially (name.) O Jesus, keep them all close to your heart, and bless them abundantly in time & in eternity. Amen. --St. Therese of Lisieux Monday ~ August 29 Rev. Msgr. William Elliott Tuesday ~ August 30 Rev.
