Page Two St. André Bessette Parish, Malone, New York FROM FR. JOE This Sunday is a day of great rejoicing for the entire Catholic Church as we celebrate the canonization of Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Although considered a "saint by many while she was still alive, this formal recognition of her holiness acknowledges her as a timeless witness of the call to "do little things with great love. Mother Teresa wasn t merely an exemplary social worker responding with human kindness to material needs; she was a woman of deep faith and constant prayer who was moved to serve Christ in the poorest of the poor. In thanksgiving for the canonization of St. Teresa of Calcutta, a special song will be sung at some of the Masses in the parish this Sunday. It was written by our own Music Coordinator, Marie- Claire D Arcy, for the service of the Seven Last Words held on Palm Sunday, and is based on writings of the new saint, who mediated often on Jesus words from the cross I thirst and the Lord s great thirst for souls: Look at the Cross: see, I thirst! For your love, for your soul, For your good, for your life, From the Cross, as I die: see, I thirst! Some holy cards commemorating this special day are also available in each of our churches. Please feel free to help yourself. St. Teresa of Calcutta, pray for us! Visit Fr. Joe's blog: http://fromemptyhands.blogspot.com/ Abbreviated Mass Schedule September 24-25 Saturday (anticipated), 4:00pm, at St. Joseph s Sunday, 8:00am, at St. John Bosco There will be no other Masses offered in Malone that Sunday Bishop LaValley has asked all parishes to adjust their Mass schedules in order to allow the priests and people of the diocese to attend INSPIRE: Called to Love in Lake Placid. Please make your plans for Mass accordingly. OFFICE CLOSED The office will be closed on Monday, September 5th in observance of Labor Day. I THIRST FOR YOU (cf. Jn 19:28). Remember that you are a pilgrim in this life, on a journey home. Sin can never satisfy you, or bring you the peace you seek. All that you have sought outside of me has only left you more empty. So do not cling to the things of this life. There is nothing I cannot forgive and heal: so come now, and unburden your soul. Jesus is God, therefore His love, His thirst is infinite. He, the Creator of the universe, asked for the love of His creatures. He thirsts for our love. These words: I thirst do they echo in our souls? St. Teresa of Calcutta (1910-1997) ST. Page Five St. André Bessette Parish, Malone, New York September 4, 2016 Sacrament of Baptism Parents who wish to have a child baptized should contact Rev. Joseph Giroux to make arrangements for the date and for a program of preparation. Parents are highly encouraged to make arrangements at least three months before the child is born, as the Catholic Church encourages Baptism for infants as soon as possible after birth. Adults and older children (seven years or older) interested in Baptism or entering into full communion with the Catholic Church should inquire about the program of preparation (R.C.I.A.: the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). Sacrament of Matrimony A Catholic wishing to be married in one of our churches should contact one of the priests at least six months prior to the desired date in order to begin making arrangements. A program of preparation is required. The parish should be contacted before any other plans are made for example, the wedding reception. Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick For those preparing for surgery, nursing home residents, or the homebound, contact one of the parish priests to make arrangements to be anointed. For those in the hospital (especially in the event of an emergency), ask the hospital staff to contact the priest on call.
