Mercy Focus for September 2016 Clothe the Naked: Support the Merciful Works of Catholic Charities ~ Each year, Catholic Charities invites people to warm the hearts, hands, and feet of the less fortunate by participating in our Cold Weather Clothing Drive. Your donation of new winter coats, hats, scarves, boots, and gloves of all sizes for men, women, and children will help people throughout the Archdiocese who are served by Catholic Charities. With 87% of our clients living below the national poverty level, it is extremely difficult for our clients to afford proper winter clothing. You can help keep someone warm this winter. On Saturdays, November 5 and 12, you can drop off your items from 9:00AM to 12:00PM at Catholic Charities, 2021 North 60th Street, Milwaukee.

St. Vincent de Paul The St. Vincent de Paul Society recently celebrated the 200th anniversary of the birth of its founder, Frederic Ozanam. As a college student, Frederic led a small group of his classmates into the poor area of Paris to do what they could to address the needs for food and fuel. Working one-to-one with families, they gave witness to nonbelievers about the vitality of their faith. This model of assistance spread through Europe and arrived in our archdiocese in 1849. Perhaps known best for its quiet, behind-the-scenes work in most parishes, our Vincentians will be presenting several themes in September in an effort to increase the awareness of the poor in our midst and how the Society members serve them. Perhaps this will be the time in your life to consider joining them. We were all very impressed by this facility modern, clean, safe, nurturing with centralized access to the many services (law enforcement, social services, job training, etc.) abused women and their children need to restart their lives. Our guide was excellent articulate and passionate. She provided us with a history of Sojourner Truth, the woman (abolitionist and women s rights activist), and a history of Sojourner Truth, the shelter for abused women, then and now. The Center continues to have a strong outreach program to educate and inform the public about their work. Our next tour is of The Guest House, a homeless shelter. Please join us on Saturday, September 10, at 10:00AM. Car pooling is available. Sign up in the gathering area or meet at The Guest House. We hope you will join us on this third and final tour. Is He truly asking us to give up everything? Perhaps instead He is trying to help us see that everything we think we own is really a gift from God. Good stewards know that and strive to use those gifts accountably. St. Bernadette Parish, Milwaukee Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time
