Parishes of The Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania Dear Parish Family, The month of November has had a long tradition of prayer for the dead. As for why this month, I am not certain. However, November seems to be grey, cold, and the gardens and trees all enter the hibernation mode as we prepare for winter snows. When we lose a loved one, the days and years following all seem to reflect that important loss. As a result of this remembrance, please know that every Mass during this month, we will remember our deceased loved ones, especially those you have noted in our book of remembrance at both parishes. I believe our Catholic perspective is very helpful. We pray for our beloved dead because they are still very much a part of our lives, even though they live in eternity with God. Our parents, brothers and sisters, friends and acquaintances remain very much in our hearts. Letting them know we love them is as natural as breathing. Sometimes our prayers can even take on various dispositions such as love, remorse (for harsh words of the past), pride, and the desire to be with them again. Those feelings truly reflect authentic love. Over time, the hurt from a loss may become more manageable, but the ache will always be there. As we miss and mourn our loved ones, may God continue to provide for us His loving consolation. Yours In Christ, Fr. Mark Dear Parish Family, Announcing a Staff Change I wish to share the news that Patti Doss, who served as the business manager at Mt. Calvary Parish and until recently as administrative assistant for our combined office, has decided to leave employment at our parish office and take on a new position elsewhere. Patti tendered her letter of resignation on October 23rd, noting that her last day was last Thursday, November 2 nd. I announced her leaving at the Holy Day Masses a few days ago after first informing the Finance Councils at our last our meeting on Tuesday, October 31 st. I know that her years of service at Mt. Calvary Parish were very happy and fulfilling, and she felt very appreciated by you. Please keep Patti in your prayers as she begins her new job. May the Lord grant her health, happiness and peace. In Christ, Father Mark

Page 5 NOVEMBER 5, 2017 31ST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME NEWS BITS FROM AROUND OUR PARISHES & DIOCESE A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who worked so hard to make our PAL Card Party a success. Our numbers were down, but those who attended seemed to enjoy themselves. Our PAL Chinese Auction, as usual, was full of wonderful and varied Card Party baskets, our centerpieces beautiful and the food tasty. Reservations, fudge and pop and door prizes were handled by able PAL members who do a great job. Members also donated baskets and gave monetary donations to make the Chinese Auction successful. A special shout out to the young people who helped serve the food and deliver the prizes to winners and some stayed to help with clean up~~ along with PAL ladies cleaning up the kitchen. Without all your help, this card party could never have taken place. Thank you also to those who came and supported PAL in this fund raiser to provide funeral luncheons for parish families.
