Page Three St. Charles Borromeo Church July 8, 2018 From the Desk of Padre José.. Our second reading today gives me courage and hope; I pray that it also motivates each of us in our own daily struggles with our faith. St. Paul reminds us that temptation is always near. He also reminds us that we must be humble enough to know our journey. Any time that I have felt broken, I recognize the awesome presence of God and his mercy. Let us find the time to discern what some of our daily struggles may be that are not going to go away easily. Let us also discern: how are we inviting the mercy of God to be present? Do we allow ourselves to walk by the gentle reminder that God is with us, also helping us? I could think of many things that happen daily that take my peace away. Driving on the freeway, not too long ago, I experienced the moment of having to put myself on check when I realized that I needed to slow down and be courteous, allowing others to merge into the lane I was driving in. This happened during my last week that I had to commute from Long Beach to North Hollywood several times that week. I know it takes patience when venturing on the freeway, but I allowed myself to "know better," and somehow I became something that I had not been for a while -- impatient. More than that, I became part of the global problem of ignoring the needs of others. Every day, each of us can probably find a way to be better and to allow the grace of God to be with us. Once we recognize the undeniably awesome generosity that God always provides us, even when we fail, He still provides with all that we need. As we continue our daily journeys, let us be mindful of our own struggles and give them to the Lord. Please be assured of my prayers for you and your loved ones. God will provide.

Fraternalmente, Padre Jose SUMMER CONFESSION HOURS Confession Times Are As Follows: Thursday: 8:30 to 9:30 pm Friday: 5 to 6:30 pm You can always approach a priest after Mass or schedule an appointment at 818-766-3838.

Page Five St. Charles Borromeo Church July 8, 2018 Safeguard the Children CELLPHONE SNAPSHOTS MAY NOT BE SO INNOCENT Nearly everyone has a cell phone and that may be great for communication and connection, but it also gives rise to concerns about who may be taking photos of you or your children without your knowledge. You can t police the behaviors of others around you, but you can avoid taking pictures of your own children in public, and posting photos online that give away the locations of your favorite parks and hangouts. If your children have phones, monitor the photos they are taking and sharing, too. For a copy of the complete VIRTUS article Camera Phones: Unseen Dangers visit http://www.la-archdiocese.org/org/protecting/pages/virtus-current-online-articles.aspx. 2018 PLEDGE UPDATE Assigned Goal: $100,920.00 Amount Pledged: $86,096.00 Amount Paid: $69,878.14 Remaining Balance: $31,041.85 The monthly pledge assigned goal, the parish is responsible for paying the deficit.
