It is described by its organizers as "an opportunity to explore the meaning of life." Contact Mary Pat Bohrman for details or call the church office. Beginning Wednesday, February 15 at 6:15 PM in the Great Room. Join author and speaker Carol Kent (via video) as she shares her personal story of unshakable faith in unthinkable circumstances. It tells the story of the author's personal tragedy, told in parallel with the bible story of Abraham and Isaac. The story is both utterly heartbreaking and uplifting, and what you learn from the story of Abraham and Isaac is amazing. You're cordially invited to join this study. SERMON TITLE: Forgiveness and Gratitude SCRIPTURE: Luke 7:36-50 Group 1 UMW will meet on Monday, Feb. 20th in the Great Room at 10:30. Please join us as we hear from our NE District Vice President, Jennifer Barger, who just happens to be Carol Arthur s Daughter-in-law. Hope to see you there! Watch for several fund raisers in the near future! Make plans to attend FEBRUARY 28 Shrove Tuesday PANCAKE SUPPER MARCH 1 ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE 6:00 Hey y all! I hope everyone s week is off to a great start! Sunday School was a good talk on Song of Solomon and how it serves as a great example for both our intimate relationships with other people as well as an analogy for God s love for us! Then, after a couple epic pingpong tournaments to kick off UMYF, we had a great discussion about questioning and doubting our faith and why that s not necessarily a bad thing. (all while admiring Ryan s lovely pink hat ) We ll be on our regular schedule this week, with a movie Bible study on Wednesday night at the church at 6:00, then Sunday School and UMYF like normal this weekend. Don t forget that this week is our Salvation Army Soup Van weekend, so if you want to volunteer for that, be sure to come! I hope you all have a great week, and we ll see you soon! John Looking for volunteers to help with Sunday night suppers for our youth and children. Could you, your Sunday School class, or small group provide one of these favorites? Taco night Nacho night Hot dog/chili night Sandwich night Grill night Chicken tenders night Baked potato night Or maybe you have a great idea for a meal. Just call the church office to let us know if might be able to help. Thanks!

Holmes Street United Methodist Church 501 Holmes Ave. NE Huntsville, AL 35801 U. S. Postage Paid Non-Profit Organization Permit #447 Huntsville, AL 35801 As a member of the United Methodist Church we pledge to support it with our prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness. Jesus modeled each of these in his ministry on earth. Let us prayerfully consider how we will follow in his steps. Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can. To all the people you can, As long as ever you can. -John Wesley Tidbits From Todd Rev. Todd Owen Home phone: 256 655-8510 Office: 256 534-8865 E-mail: todd.owen@umcna.org Volunteer Thanks; Alpha; Church Growth As we continue into this new year with new staff, new leadership, and a staff member in a new positions, we also have some wonderful new volunteers that I want to say a word of thanks to who have been hard at work for you in all matters related to how we handle our finances and the money you all faithfully give for the ministry of Holmes Street. Janie Porter and Al Temple are in charge of counting and logging our giving each week, and they are assisted by Sue Glover, Austin Miller, Kay Kozub, and Natasha Ayers. Then, our new Treasurer, Elizabeth Springfield, makes sure the bills and staff get paid with the assistance of Fred Anderson and a contract bookkeeper at Honeycutt CPA. All of this is overseen by our great Finance Team of Randy Moody, Gary Crawford and Debbie Riddle. When you see these folks, please be sure to thank them for their wonderful work and dedication to excellent stewardship of church s finances. One of our big ministry successes in 2016 was the Alpha dinner and discussion groups held on Sunday nights, that was initiated and led by Chuck and Mary Pat Bohrman, Elizabeth Springfield, and a slew of other volunteers. We will be starting a new round of Alpha in March. If you or someone you know would benefit from a safe place to discuss some major questions of life and of faith, then I highly recommend Alpha. One of the great benefits of Alpha for seasoned Christians is the great way Alpha teaches you to engage in discussion aimed at answering the questions many unchurched people have about the Christian faith. Sign up, and invite a neighbor or friend who may be searching for more meaning out of life. I am forming a team to guide us through a church growth program, and want folks with many different perspectives and interests and in different life stages on this team. Won t you join us? If you are interested in serving on this team or on any other of our leadership, administrative, ministry, or outreach teams, please let me know. Let us continue to be about our calling to be disciples who make more disciples as we Invite, Gather, Grow and Go and as we support Holmes Street with our prayers, presence, giving, service, and witness. I hope to see you this week! Todd
