Congregation Beth David of Narragansett and South County Hebrew School A Message from Ethan Adler, Our Spiritual Leader Want to Participate? High Holidays 2012 5773 The High Holy Days represent a time of reflection. They allow us to come face-to-face with our strengths and weaknesses, our successes and failures, our gains and our losses. These special days give us an opportunity to restart unfinished business, to rediscover who we are, and to renew hopes and dreams. These Ten Days of Awe and retrospection open the doors of our souls to the possibilities that we are imperfect, limited, and flawed. Yet they also underscore the notion that we are special, unique, and irreplaceable. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur remind us that we are a community, sustained by members of the community, responsible for those in the community. These holidays serve as a banner to the ideal of community responsibility that we are all responsible for one another. May you all enjoy a holiday season that brings you closer to your family, friends and community, closer to the traditions of our people, and closer to your own existence. And may your journey be paved with blessings, with health and with peace. Food Donations Unfortunately, all food banks are struggling to meet high demands during these difficult economic times. We encourage you to bring whatever non-perishable foods you can to any of the High Holiday services where we will collect and later distribute your donation. Here s how! In search of Torah and Haftorah readers: Get into the spirit of the High Holidays by reading a spiritual passage. CBD has a high holiday tradition where members read the Torah and Haftorah portions for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. No experience necessary - just a desire to learn. If you are interested, and would like more information about this divine opportunity, please contact Ethan Adler at eadler3@cox.net. Ethan will be very happy to help you prepare for a reading. In search of Volunteers: Preparing for the CBD High Holiday services takes a lot of People Power. In the past our community has been blessed with many who volunteer their time to make the High Holiday services spiritual and inspirational. Once again we are asking for your help. Many hands make light work and we need LOTS of volunteers to move items from CBD to the Bonnet Shores Community Center (BSCC), to help set up at the BSCC and clean up after the services. We also will need volunteers to distribute tickets and to greet people as they enter the BSCC. Please consider volunteering to help with one of the many things that need to get done. You will be doing a mitzvah for the CBD community. Email Shelley Parness at shelleyparness@verizon.net and let her know how you can help. We also will be collecting non-perishable food for the Kosher Food Bank (donations must be kosher). Non-kosher items will be donated to the Johnny Cake Center. Paste icopy ad here
