December 2016 Commanders Corner From the desk of the Commander Hardin Post 113 It s Holiday time at the Legion once again. It s that time of year that we enjoy spending with our families and friends. We should all take a moment and pause to reflect on the meaning of this wonderful time of year. I want to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. As we closeout 2016 there are some key dates to remember. New Year s Eve Party featuring Bar Nuns Band, buy your tickets early, seating will be limited. The New Year s Eve bash is only $40 and includes a prime rib dinner, breakfast, party favors and a live band. December 10th Legion breakfast with Santa. December 27th a free luncheon for all WWII and Korea Veterans and their guest. This is a great way to honor these veterans. Please RSVP by December 16th at 270-737-9949. A special thanks to Randy Harris for being the MC of the Veterans Day Ceremony. I would also like to recognize our Legion Riders for displaying the flags and parking the guests at the Veterans Tribute in the Nature Park. Additionally, I want to thank all who assisted with the Veterans luncheon. Without all of our dedicated volunteers it would not have been a memorable event for veterans to remember for years to come. The Post s Lounge and Bingo sessions will be closed on Dec 25th and Jan 1st so we can all enjoy the Holidays. Welcome our new Finance Officer, Brian Knoch who is excited about his new role! The Legion is continuing our Post s membership drive. As part of the effort there have been many great ideas that will be coming to light in the coming days. All of these new ideas that you will be witnessing help with education, sustaining and recruiting members. Every day I m amazed at what we have accomplished in a few short months. Therefore, thank you for all of your continued support in making this legion what it is today. Where can you help to make a difference in OUR POST? John S. Saunders, Commander He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree. - Roy L. Smith Albert Hunt David Lee, Sr. Phillip Alberts Kenneth Goodman Henry Rowch John Olson Johnny Shipp Jarrold Reeves, Jr. Bruce Bryant Lloyd Burns Auxiliary Unit 113 From the desk of the President Auxiliary Unit There is no greater gift than the gift of self. December brings this thought to my mind. A realization that the holidays are upon us and we are busy shopping thinking of the perfect gift to give that special someone, we must take time to consider others less fortunate. Giving a bit of our time to ring the bell for the Salvation Army, man the Angel Tree booth at the mall for needy children of Hardin county or whatever your special cause at this time of year. Thank you for the gift of yourself as you take time for others! As a Unit, there are three events I hope you can help with Breakfast with Santa on December 10 th in the morning from 8-11am, Operation Homefront also December 10 th in the afternoon from noon until 3pm, and Wreaths across America on December 17 th beginning at 9:30 am. These are opportunities to give of self and receive smiles from the children, feel the gratitude of military families and the honor of those laid to rest. It is what we do as American Legion Auxiliary member. Consider donating items such as tissues, toothbrushes, toothpaste, Fixodent, lotion, body wash, shampoo, Barbasol shaving cream, baby wipes and sanitary wipes for nursing home residents. These are items they use and need. Please bring these items to the Post by December 8 th so that they can be packaged for delivery to veterans in the local nursing homes. December 8 th is the Auxiliary Christmas Party; bring your family and guests to enjoy the fun and please bring a side dish or dessert to share. This event takes the place of our December meeting and starts at 7 pm. It will last as long as everyone wants to enjoy fun and fellowship! A hearty THANKS to everyone who made the November breakfast and holiday bazaar a great success. Thank you to all who participated in Veterans Day activities to honor our veterans. Thank you to all who attended the Department of KY Leadership Workshop hosted by the Unit. Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your families, and May God bless you with his love at this wonderful time of year! Diane Kennedy, President ALA Hardin Unit 113

Page 3 Bugler BUGLERBUG Chaplains Corner Listen to Love Let each one give as he has made up his own mind and purposed in his heart, not reluctantly or sorrowfully or under compulsion for God loves (he takes pleasure in, prizes above other things, and is unwilling to abandon or to do without) a cheerful (joyous) giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7 Because human nature is self-centered, generous giving does not come naturally to us. We have to build into our thinking the mind-set that we are generous. Begin to think and say, I am a very generous person. I look for opportunities to give. Strive to become more like God s son, Jesus, and purpose to be more of a giver. Please remember in prayer: Diane Kennedy, Steve Curry, Jane Gray, David Hayes, Darlene Probus, Ron Atkinson, Jeff Hall, Charlotte Van Kirk, Jack Killion, our Veterans, our Country and our Leaders.
