August 2010 FROM THE VICAR I would like to draw your attention to the fact that one of our parish clergy will be leaving at the end of this month. During the last three years the Revd Linda Mary Edwards has helped us all by taking services in our churches. As well as this, Linda Mary has been Priest-in-charge of Pennant Melangell for about six years and has carried out a ministry of pastoral care and encouragement to very many who have visited there. I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Linda Mary for myself and also on behalf of us all. To us all she has given the benefit of her liturgical and preaching skills coupled with her extremely valuable pastoral insights. For myself, I would like to say that she has been a wonderful and sympathetic source of guidance and encouragement and has also provided a ready listening ear in times of difficulty. There is to be a United Service for all the parishes at Pennant Melangell on the last Sunday in August where we will all have a chance to see and hear her and to be able to say our goodbyes. We will all miss her and Howard and we wish them every blessing for a happy future and retirement. One of Linda Mary's most valuable qualities is the prayerfulness of her ministry and this is a subject we might dwell on for a few moments here. We are used to liturgical prayer in services, but in this busy-busy world of the twenty-first century we perhaps do not set aside as much time personally for prayer as we might due to the pressures of life. Whether the first disciples had the same problem we do not know but it is likely. There is mention in the Gospel of Jesus retiring to a quiet place to pray and there was asked by his disciples to teach them how to pray. His response was the Lord's Prayer..Our Father. Take some time in the quiet this month to pray this quietly and meditatively on your own and ask Jesus Christ to help you too to pray better. Cyngor Cymuned Llanwddyn Community Council Adroddiad/Report With the recent announcement of the sale of the Vyrnwy Estate by way of a lease by Severn Trent the Community Council organised a public open meeting for members of the community to have their say and to voice any concerns that they may have. It was well attended with over 70 present representing themselves and various organisation connected to the Estate. The meeting was chaired by County Cllr. Simon Baines in co-operation with Cllr. John Roberts, Chair of Llanwddyn Community Council. Apologies were received from Knight Frank, the managing agents, on behalf of Severn Trent and asked that the Community Council convey to them the comments and any matters raised at the meeting. A report will now be sent to Severn Trent via Knight Frank, their managing agents and the Community Council will report back to another open meeting scheduled for Tuesday 31 st August 2010. The meeting was well represented by the media both Television and Radio as well as the local press. If anyone wishes to raise any other matters regarding the impending changes in Llanwddyn regarding the Estate please contact Cllr Simon Baynes, Cllr John Roberts or the clerk Gwyndaf Richards. At the close of the Open meeting the normal monthly meeting was held and chaired by Cllr John Roberts. With the matters arising it was reported that the Telephone Kiosks were back in operation after numerous telephone complaints and a letter from the Community Council. The painting of the War Memorial enclosure railings had been put out to tender and persued. It was reported that the potholes at Abertridwr and at the top village had been completed and the grass on the bowling green had been cut. The clerk had written to the contractors effecting the erection of the Bus Shelter to enquire on the progress. Correspondence from Powys County Council regarding the Local Development Plan and Affordable Housing SPG and any comments on proposals to be made by 20 th August 2010 and similarly a letter from PCC on Powys County Council, Licensing Act 2003 regarding Statement of Licencing Policy and consultation Notice on change of County Council s Political Management Structure and responses to be in for 30 th September 2010. The Community Council received information on the Save the Children Way and part of the Glyndwr Way going through Llanwddyn will be part of the project which starts in Boston, Lincolnshire and ends in Barmouth - a total of 280 miles. Communication was also received from the Welsh Assembly Government regarding agreeing charters with unitary authorities and the forthcoming legislation of proposed Local Government (Wales) Measure 2010 into the National Assembly on 12 th July. A proposal from Dave Proctor to form a joint venture between himself and the Community Council to establish a Lake Vyrnwy Community Camp site on the football field during the holiday season was discussed. Having considered this proposals there were a number of factors that needed to be considered including the fact that The Community Council have no formal lease on the site and it is anticipated that the football Club may be re-formed by the coming season and consideration of the occupiers of nos 1-8 Abertridwr had to be taken to account. It was therefore decided that the Community Council could not at this stage support this venture. The next meeting will be Monday 27 th September. But there will be an open Meeting on Tuesday 31 st August 2010 regarding the Estate. J. Gwyndaf Richards. Clerk of Llanwddyn Community Council Page 5
Sale of Lake Vyrnwy On Monday 26th July a meeting was held in the Hall for residents to put forward any queries they had about the proposed sale. The meeting was chaired by Councillor Simon Baynes who said he was disappointed that Severn Trent and Knight Frank had declined the invitation to attend. There was a lot of media attention, two television crews and newspaper reporters were present. There was a diverse range of questions from the audience so Councillor Baynes will pass them all on to Severn Trent and will hopefully get some answers before the next meeting due to be held in the Hall on TUESDAY 31ST AUGUST Page 6 Councillor Baynes and John Roberts.
