Good News from St. Pius X/St. Leo School "St. Pius X / St. Leo School is a diverse community forming students in the Catholic faith to excel in academics and service to others." St. Pius X/St. Leo School Hello St. Pius X / St. Leo Community members, We have two groups that are sponsored by our two parishes, St. Pius X Parish and St. Leo the Great Parish that we d like to talk about with you today. During the fall season, we always like to take an opportunity to thank the members of the Soccer Club and the members of the Athletic Committee, who help so much to keep the areas in and around school and the gym maintained well for the young people of our parishes. At this time, I d like to tell you about the things that the Soccer Club does to help many of us. We are so grateful that you do so much to keep the soccer field at our school location neat and nice for our students. You give a great amount of time, effort and monetary support toward the athletic fields of both parishes. Our students at St. Pius X / St. Leo School really enjoy taking advantage of having physical education classes and some recess times, during nice weather, on the athletic field to the south of our school complex at 69th and Blondo. Having a well-kept athletic field is due in large part to the generosity of the Soccer Club. Many years ago, the Soccer Club put in a sprinkler system that they continue to maintain as well as pay the water bill each month. The Soccer Club keeps the field looking well-maintained by paying for fertilizing it, having weed killer put on it and having someone mow it. The Soccer Club also pays for the same maintenance and work for the athletic field located on St. Leo the Great Parish grounds. It s wonderful when students can be involved in organized activities and also get lots of exercise. We know that the members of the soccer club give up much of their precious time to coach soccer, work with handling the many details of running a soccer club and also maintaining both of these fields. We are also so grateful to the members of the Athletic Committee. The students are lucky to begin each school year with totally cleaned and shiny gym floor thanks to the efforts and at the expense of the Athletic Club. Many, many years ago, the Athletic Club paid for a new wood floor in the gym. With that new gym floor came the agreement to maintain this beautiful wood floor. Maintaining the wood floor is an expensive adventure each year as the floor needs to be thoroughly cleaned and then re-sealed each summer. Thus, we have the shiny floors for all to see when the students come back to school each year. We thank you, members of the Athletic Club, but, especially Tracy Potter and his family, who do all of the manual labor that the deep cleaning and resealing this gym floor requires. We are also so thankful to the Athletic Committee for often covering and/or splitting expenses with the school for updates in the gym. The Athletic Committee members and Athletic Directors, Bob Drexel and Tracy Potter, secure all of the volunteers who help to coach the various sports. Thank you, members of the Soccer Club, and the Athletic Committee! Cory Sepich, Principal If you have children in grades Pre-Kindergarten (3-year-old and 4-year-old programs) to Grade 8 that you are thinking about sending to our school for this school year, please call our school office at 402-551-6667 to set up a time to come and visit, and, then enroll your child/ ren when you decide to come to our school. We are blessed that our grades are filling up, but would love for you and your family to join our school family this year! In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman I m sure most adults and many children know someone or may have experienced a marriage ending divorce. Most couples are married because they have a deep love each other and desire to spend their lives together. Most married couples desire to join with God in the creation of new life, the blessing of children. So how does a loving couple turn on each another and end what was to be sacred and beautiful. In our Gospel Jesus responds to the Pharisees statement, "Moses permitted a husband to write a bill of divorce and dismiss her." Jesus told them, "Because of the hardness of your hearts he wrote you this commandment. There it is, that is the reason! The hardness of our hearts is the direct cause of most divorce and is the direct cause of most of our problems in life. Jesus also said in this Gospel, "Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it." Children do not have the hardness of heart as we do as adults. They are totally open to love, totally open to the graces our Lord. In our marriages, in all of our relationships we need to be open like a child to our Lord s love and grace. The closer we come to our Lord Jesus Christ, the more the hardness of heart will disappear and the closer we come to those we love. Being open to God s love in our marriages fulfills the scripture, and the two of them become one flesh. St. Leo Knights of Columbus Our Council is sponsoring two events this month. To help with the October 13 Tailgate party, contact Dennis Waggoner at drwaggoner@cox.net. To help with the October 28 Donut Sunday (8 and 10am masses), contact Fred Otterberg at fotterbe@cox.net. Please take time to direct Catholic men that you know to www.kofc.org/ joinus. This allows them to get the information they need to make their personal decision on membership and to join online.
