Syracuse 6pm The Patriotic Degree Until 1900 the principles of the Knights of Columbus Order were charity, unity and fraternity. On February 22, 1900 patriotism was added with the first exemplification of the Fourth Degree. Sometimes called the Patriotic Degree, it is open to all 3rd Degree Knights on good standing. http://www.kofc10904.org/ 1

The primary purpose of the Patriotic Degree is to foster the spirit of Patriotism by promoting responsible citizenship, loyalty to the country and the love of God. The basic unit of the fourth degree is called the Assembly, headed up by the Faithful Navigator. Fourth Degree Knights are referred to Sir Knights, and they may choose to join the Assembly Color Guard which serves as a honor guard at civic and religious functions. Color Guard are readily identifiable by their regalia, ( uniforms) consisting of tuxedo, plumed chapeau, cape, sword and white gloves. Degrees The Assembly is looking for 3rd Degree Knights, in good standing, to join the Assembly. The Assembly is also looking for Fourth Degree Knights who are willing to join the Color Guard. Our Council will be looking to promote our First Degree Knights and Second Degree Knights to the Third Degree. This will give them the option of joining the Assembly as a Fourth Degree Knight and then joining the Color Guard. If you are interested in joining the Assembly and meet the 3rd degree qualifications, please advise the Grand Knight and he will submit your name to the Assembly for consideration. Semenarians Brother Gregg McPhee Gregg McPhee is one of he Seminarians that we provide funds to under our sustaining fund. He recently wrote to one of our Knights regarding his status. The following are excerpts from his letter. "I'm doing well at our Chicago formation house. I'm taking a cannon law course during the January term. I really like studying the Code of Canon Law and learning about our rights and obligations in the http://www.kofc10904.org/ 4

Church. I have a better understanding of concrete ways to surrender to Christ through the norms and laws of the church. I also continue to minister as a hospital Chaplain. I enjoy the supportive and spiritual interaction with patients. I participate in liturgy, prayer and adoration with my mission community, and I attend a Chicago parish. I also make time for spiritual reading, meditation, tennis, piano and exercise. The Spring semester begins in February. I have to submit a proposal to my 2 year overseas training. I'll probably be assigned to East Africa-Kenya and Tanzania. Once I leave in July, I won't be able to return home for 2 years. I hope that we can stay in contact when I'm overseas. Thank you for the seminarian fund. The money really made a difference to me this year. God bless your family, the Knights, Sacred Heart and your ministries. Peace. Greg" Insurance The Knights of Columbus recorded its 15th consecutive year of insurance sales growth in 2015, issuing more than $8.4 billion of individual life insurance. On Nov. 3, the Knights of Columbus also surpassed $100 billion of life insurance in force, cementing its position as one of the largest life insurers in North America. I firmly believe that our moral compass has helped guide us through a turbulent decade and an uncertain economy, said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. The Knights offer insurance to its members and families through a network of more then 1500 dedicated professional agents through out the US and they are all members of the Knights of Columbus. The 100 billion caps a year where we sold 8 billion dollars of insurance. If you need Life insurance,or an annuity, call Rick Nester at 410-218-5578.
