High Holiday Youth Program 2018 5779 Dear Families, On behalf of Congregation Or Tzion, I am thrilled to share the following information about this year s High Holiday Youth Program. We are excited to welcome Erez Kessler to the High Holiday Youth Program team, who will be leading the Youth Program Prayer Services. Many of you know Mr. Erez from his song leading at the Valley of the Sun JCC, Camp Shemesh, and The Valley of the Sun JCC s ECC. Or Tzion s Associate Rabbi, Rabbi Nate Crane will be leading our services for Families with Young Children. Stephanie Monier will continue to oversee the High Holiday Youth Program. Our dedicated team has crafted a hands-on, experiential program, filled with ruah (spirit) for our congregation s youngest members. Exciting elements of the High Holiday Youth Program include: All programing will be held in the main building at the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus. Junior Congregation Prayer Service for youth in grades 4-6. A service for teens in grades 7-12. A developmentally appropriate and engaging program designed especially for our community s children, ages infant 3rd grade. A NEW comprehensive program for youth in grades 4-6. A NEW Kol Nidre youth program for youth in grades kindergarten-6. We offer participatory and meaningful Junior Congregation Services and Teen Services. 4th-6th grade families will now have the option for their children to either: 1) attend our new comprehensive 4th-6th grade youth program including the Jr. Congregation Prayer Service, or 2) join their families in the Main Sanctuary before and after attending the Jr. Congregation Prayer Service. Youth Program Description The High Holiday Youth Program is generously subsidized by funds from the Lato/Rubin Education Fund. Our youth programming is a special pre-registered and pre-paid program for infants and youth through 6th grade. All High Holiday Youth Programming will be held at the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus. Youth Program Dates and Times Rosh Hashanah Day 1- Monday, September 10th 10:00am-1:00pm Rosh Hashanah Day 2- Tuesday, September 11th 10:00am-11:30pm Kol Nidre- Tuesday, September 18th 6:30pm-8:15pm Yom Kippur- Wednesday, September 19th 10:00am-1:00pm Program Description For Infants and Toddlers (0 to 2 years old): Or Tzion provides childcare from Arizona Lullaby Guild for our youngest participants. These professional babysitters are certified in CPR and First Aid. Children in this age range take part in daily story time and will be provided with toys and age appropriate art materials. For Preschoolers and Pre-Kindergarteners (3 to 4 years old): These children will have a variety of programs including story time, arts and crafts, and age appropriate toys and activities. For Kindergarteners to 3rd rs: Children in these grades will enjoy a fun and educational morning of holiday-themed activities including: story telling, an age appropriate youth service, team building, Jewish learning activities, and a craft/service project. For 4th-6th rs: Children in these grades will enjoy a fun and educational morning of holiday-themed activities including: an age appropriate youth service, team building, Jewish learning activities, and a craft/service project. Registrations requested on-site during the holidays may be accepted at an additional fee.

Rabbi Nate Crane will lead all Services for Families with Young Children. Our Services for Families with Young Children are fun and engaging services for infants through Pre- Kindergarten and their families. These services are separate from the High Holiday Youth Program and we require that parents attend and participate with their children in these musical and smile-filled experiences. The Youth Program Services are interactive, experiential Jewish learning opportunities for children in grades K 3 that include songs and Tfilot (prayers). Parents, we thank you in advance for allowing us to create and enjoy a special experience for your kids only! It is not necessary for parents to attend. Preregistration for these services are not required. Our Junior Congregation Services are for youth in 4th through 6th grades. The goal of Junior Congregation is to encourage students to participate in the ritual celebrations of the High Holidays in a manner conducive to their abilities. Participating youth will be invited to help lead prayers as a part of these engaging and educational service. Pre-registration for Junior Congregation Prayer Services is not required. Congregation Or Tzion s Teen Services for youth in 7th through 12th grades. These High Holiday services will offer teens the opportunity to engage in accessible prayer, active learning, and deep reflection in a ruah-filled setting.

Please note that staff and classrooms will be available only after 10:00am. All children registered for the High Holiday Youth Program must be checked in by 10:00am. Each family will receive a wristband for each child at check in. One band will be placed on each child. Families will also receive a wristband for the adult responsible for the child. This is done for security purposes so that the person who drops a child off is the same person who picks the child up. Please be prepared to present your wristband at checkout to expedite the process. Please remember to bring a dairy, nut-free lunch clearly labeled with your child s name. Lunches will not be refrigerated. Please bring a filled water bottle for each child with his or her name clearly labeled. Please dress comfortably and appropriately. We suggest that girls bring shorts to wear under dresses as they will be participating in activities that require them to move around and spend time on the floor. A drop-in fee for the High Holiday Youth Program will be charged to your account if your child joins the program the day of. There is no fee if your child chooses to attend the Jr. Congregation Prayer Service. Infants, Toddlers, and Preschoolers Your child is welcome to bring a special toy or book. Please be sure to label any items you bring. Congregation Or Tzion is not responsible for any items lost or broken. For children requiring a morning nap, please bring a stroller and/or pack n play for them to sleep in. Please be sure to bring diapers, wipes, and a changing pad as we will not provide these items.
