ORDER OF WORSHIP Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost August 12, 2018 Eleven O Clock PRELUDE: I. Prayer - Rene Vierne II. God Leads Us Alone - arr. Lyndell Leatherman CHIMING THE HOUR Greeters: Elizabeth Price and Lori Gast Liturgist: Bill Gast GREETINGS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS This is the Day that the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! Good morning and welcome. It is so nice to see all of you here this morning. Please remember to sign the attendance registers located in each pew. It is time for announcements, does anybody have an announcement they would like to make? Please stand, in body or spirit, and join me in our Call to Worship and remain standing through the response *CALL TO WORSHIP: (Responsively) Leader: I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in His word I hope; People: my soul waits for the LORD more than those who watch for the morning. All: Let us worship God. *PRAISE CHORUS: Hymn #634 To God Be the Glory To God be the glory; great things He has done! So loved He the world that He gave us His Son, Who yielded His life an atonement for sin, and opened the life-gate that all may go in. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord; let the earth hear His voice! Praise the Lord, praise the Lord; let the people rejoice! O come to the Father through Jesus the Son, and give Him the glory great things He has done! Please bow your heads for our Opening Prayer *OPENING PRAYER Gracious God, as You taught us to be kindhearted and forgiving to those around us, equip us for that ministry through Your word. Lead us as we struggle to follow Your will and be our guide in trying times. Amen. Our first hymn today is *HYMN No. 41 O Worship the King, All Glorious Above LYONS

*CALL TO CONFESSION If we say we are without sin, we deceive ourselves. Let us confess our sins before Almighty God. Let us pray *PRAYER OF CONFESSION Merciful God, hear our prayers. We know we have not been the kind of people You call us to be. We struggle to help those in need, often blaming them for their situation. We find ourselves looking at others and instead of compassion for those less fortunate, we feel pride in our own accomplishments. Teach us to feel Christian compassion and act accordingly when we encounter those in need, and forgive us for our selfishness. In Christ s name we pray. (Please wait about 20 seconds, and then say,) Amen. *ASSURANCE OF PARDON Brothers and sisters in Christ, believe the good news of the Gospel. In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. *RESPONSE: Hymn #743 O God, You Are My God O God, You are my God, and I will ever praise You. O God, You are my God, and I will ever praise You. I will seek You in the morning, and I will learn to walk in Your ways. And step by step You ll lead me, and I will follow You all of my days. STEP BY STEP You may be seated and at this time would our youth please come forward. (If there are no youth (besides the regulars,) then just say you may be seated. ) TIME FOR YOUTH Please bow your heads for our Prayer of Illumination PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION Loving God, open our ears to hear Your word and draw us closer to You, that the whole world may be one with You as You are one with us in Jesus Christ our Lord. PSALTER LESSON From Psalm 34:1-8 Please read responsively Leader: I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. People: My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. Leader: O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together. People: I sought the LORD, and He answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. Leader: Look to Him, and be radiant; so your faces shall never be ashamed. People: This poor soul cried, and was heard by the LORD, and was saved from every trouble. Leader: The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. People: O taste and see that the LORD is good; happy are those who take refuge in Him. Leader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God!
