One of the Crowd A Sermon by David J. Droog April 5, 2009 First Presbyterian Church, Rochester, MN

Transcription:

Jesus Rides Into the City Matthew 21 1 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, tell him that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away. 4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: 5 Say to the Daughter of Zion, See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. 6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt, placed their cloaks on them, and Jesus sat on them. 8 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest! 10 When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, Who is this? 11 The crowds answered, This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.

Jesus Rides into the City

The Bible Times Herald A Special Report on JESUS RIDES INTO THE CITY Before Jesus entered Jerusalem, he sent two of his disciples ahead of him to the next village. There they found two donkeys there. Jesus told them to untie the donkeys and bring them to him. Jesus said, If anyone says anything to you, tell him that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away. This all took place to fulfill what was said in the past by a prophet that Jesus would ride into a town as a king on a donkey. When the disciples brought back the donkeys, Jesus sat on top of cloaks and rode into the city. As Jesus entered the city, a large crowd spread their cloaks on the road while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds in front of Jesus and behind him shouted, Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest! When Jesus entered Jerusalem, everyone asked, Who is this? The crowds answered, This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee. For more details, please read Matthew 21:1-11 in your Bible. QUESTIONS 1. What did Jesus tell the disciples to get from the village? 2. What did the people place on the ground for the donkeys to walk on? 3. What did the people say as Jesus passed by? 4. Have You Ever Sinned? The Bible teaches that we have all sinned and do not measure up to God s glory. It also teaches that the price for sin is death which separates us from God. But even though we are sinners, Christ died for us and paid the price for our sin. We just need to ask him to forgive us and receive his free gift of salvation. Just pray this prayer, with a sincere heart, and Jesus will forgive you of your sins. You will become a child of God and live with Him in heaven. Dear Jesus, Please forgive me for the bad things that I have done. Please come into my heart and be my Lord and savior. In your name I pray, Amen. People began to throw branches on the ground. They shouted, Hosanna! 6 3
