We recognize our responsibility to give worship to God, reverence to all people, respect to all creation and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Acknowledging our own brokenness and our need to hope, we seek to be a forgiving and welcoming community committed to service by the sharing of life and love with all, and working together to make peace and justice a reality in our world. Strengthened by the presence of God in our lives, we undertake all of this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen. Alleluia

Holy Spirit Catholic Church February 11, 2018 From The Pastor s Desk Sin always has the effect of separating us from God, others, and even from ourselves. If this is part of your loneliness, then know that you are not condemned to stay in that isolated place. Jesus wishes to reach out and touch you. He is still as caring as when he reached out to the leper and touched him. Often during life we are asked to re-examine our relationship to those who are close to us. If we don t do this, then we run a very high risk of losing those who mean so much to us. We can gradually drift away from our husband or wife, or family or friends. One day we suddenly realize that, over the years, we have been separating ourselves from others. At that moment we have the option of either deciding to reestablish the lost relationship or just letting it go. But of all our relationships, our relationship with Jesus is the most important one. If that last statement meant nothing to you, then it is a sign that you have some serious work to do. Don t take it as a sign that you now should despair. No, it is more an opportunity a time to wake up to your life to what has been happening on your spiritual journey. Is your loneliness telling you that you have been neglecting that allimportant relationship with Jesus? Are you hiding some part of yourself away because you are too ashamed to bring it out into the light? The leper was cut off from the community. He was lost. He felt himself to be unworthy. He knew he couldn t cure himself. But he also knew that Jesus could cure him, and he had enough faith to ask Jesus to do so. The leper cried out to Jesus, If you wish, you can make me clean. And Jesus said, I do will it. Be made clean. At times Jesus was moved to tears because he saw how terrible our distress was. This same Jesus is now risen and with us today. He has not lost his compassion and caring for us. He has not disappeared into some heaven where we can no longer meet him. This is the mystery of our faith Jesus Christ is present to each of us and to all of us. While today s story may have taken place long ago and far away, it is still taking place in our lives. Jesus is still reaching out to touch us. But now we see him through the eyes of our faith. Through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Christ continues to touch us in our neediness. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick has also been given to us as Jesus way of bringing his healing touch to our distressful situation. As the leper approached Jesus, he came with a burning desire to be made whole once again. Jesus did not let him down. Nor will he disappoint us. May we all have the trust to say to our Lord, If you wish, you can make me clean.
