Welcome to Christ the Redeemer. Welcome to our family. Whether you re from down the street or from out of town, we re glad you re with us. We welcome saints. We welcome sinners. We welcome those who are searching. We pray that your time with us today is filled with grace. Welcome!

A WORD FROM OUR DEACON We are all sinners. It is a fact of our earthly lives, that we fall into sins of this world. What do we do with that? What do we do when we have sinned? Like St. James instructs us, we go to the priest (James 5:14). The priest, in the person and with the power of Jesus Christ Himself, passed on from the first apostles, forgives our sins. [H]e breathed on them, and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained (John 20:22b23). So what do we do when we sin? We go to Confession and receive God s own forgiveness. Jesus has instituted the Church and given us this way to be clean, to fix our problems. But that s not all. Lord, forgive the wrong I have done (Psalm 32) is just the beginning. God forgives our sins for a bigger reason. God forgives our sins that we might live by faith in the Son of God who has loved [us] and given himself up for [us] (Galatians 2:20). God gives us forgiveness for the sake of love. Jesus asks us to repent because He wants nothing to stand in the way of our receiving His love for us. He wants you. The Father delights in you. God Himself thirsts for you (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2560). The woman in today s reading from the Gospel knew that forgiveness and love are tied together. So I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven because she has shown great love (Luke 7:47). Might we repent with as much zeal as this woman, and so enter ever more deeply into the love, joy, and peace which we all desire. - Deacon Brice Higginbotham
