St. Paul s News APRIL 2017 St. Paul s, Happy Spring! As we welcome the month of April we are also getting close to our celebration of the resurrection of Jesus on Easter. Easter Sunday in April 16 th and there are many opportunities to celebrate and participate in the life of our church. Check them out! April 9 th Palm Sunday. We will worship together at our normal time and will celebrate the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem with palms and celebration. We will spend the second half of our worship time reflecting on Jesus death on the cross. April 13 th Maundy Thursday. We will worship with our friends from Faith UMC here at St. Paul s at 7:00pm. We will remember Jesus last supper with his disciples and celebrate communion together. April 14 th Good Friday. You are invited to participate in the community Good Friday service hosted by First Presbyterian at noon April 16 th Easter Sunday. We will begin our celebration at our Sunrise Service at 7:30am. Then we will enjoy breakfast together in the fellowship hall following the service (or around 8:15am if the sunrise service is too early for you but you still like breakfast!). We will hold our tradition service at our normal time of 10:00am. In addition these opportunities to worship and celebrate together, I encourage you to spend some time during holy week to reflect on Jesus life, death, and resurrection. If you want to read the story during the week, allow me to suggest this reading plan. Sunday, April 9th: Luke 19:28-42 and Zechariah 9:9 Monday, April 10th: Luke 19:45-20:8 Tuesday, April 11th: Luke 20:9-40 Wednesday, April 12th: Luke 20:41-47 & Luke 22:1-6 Thursday, April 13th: Luke 22:7-46 Friday, April 14th: Luke 22:47-23:48 and John 19:1-37 Saturday, April 15th: Luke 23:50-56 and John 19:38-42 Sunday, April 16th: Luke 24 and John 20 It is my hope and prayer that this season might be one of growth, reflection, and celebration of us all as we continue to receive the unending love, grace, and forgiveness of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Peace Pastor Hannah April 15 th St. Paul s will host our annual Easter Egg Hunt. Invite all the children you know! The time includes crafts, bingo, piñatas, candy scramble, egg hunt, and a telling of the Easter story at begins at 10:00am. 1

Missions Committee Members will be meeting on Sunday, April 23 rd for a brief meeting in the secretary s office at 11:15 am. March Mission Giving: Third Sunday Ingathering Offering- $96.00. First Call for Help distributes these funds to those in need in our community. UMCOR Sunday Offering- $ 242.00 Thanks to Missions Committee members and others who donated food or helped in any other way with the lunch for Ned Brinkman s funeral. The support we received from our extended church family is greatly appreciated! We have set up a collection box in the Fellowship Hall to collect canned goods for the Sharing Kitchen guests giveaway table. Kroger no longer provides canned goods to the Sharing Kitchen. If each member could donate an item or two every week, it would be a big help! On average 40-50 guests come to the kitchen twice a week. A donation table for FISH has been set up in the sanctuary for non-perishable food items. We will collect these items through the 9 th of April. These products help those in need in our community. Please put items on the table when you come to worship. Lily forms have been included in your weekly bulletins. Alternate Lilies funds will go to Sharing Kitchen and Youth Annual Conference. Native American Sunday Offering will be April 30 th. Envelopes will be available please consider making a donation to this mission! LENT BIBLE STUDY JOHN: THE GOSPEL OF LIGHT AND LIFE A LENT BIBLE STUDY WEDNESDAYS MARCH 8 TH - APRIL 12 TH 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM IN THE CHURCH PARLOR Please join us this Lent for a six week study of the gospel of John. We will learn together through conversation, video presentations, and studying the scripture. Come discover more about who Jesus is and how Jesus changes our lives. Saturday, April 15 th from 10-11:30 am in St. Paul's Fellowship Hall for children in Preschool-6 th Grade (Preschoolers need to be accompanied by an adult) Activities include the Easter Story, crafts, egg hunt and games. Maundy Thursday Service 7:00 pm here at St. Paul s with Faith UMC Easter Egg Hunt 10:00-11:30 am In the Fellowship Hall EASTER SUNDAY Summer camp brochures have arrived at the church. Pick one up on the tables in the back of the sanctuary or find more information online at campwanake.org. Camp programs are available for children and youth from Kindergarten through High School. Church funds are available to families to help with the cost. Talk to Pastor Hannah for more information. Trustee Report There will be a church clean up day on Saturday April 29 th from 9:00 am-1:00 pm. Sign-up sheets will be in the fellowship hall each Sunday after church. We need your help with clean up and organizational suggestions! Thank you to John Patterson and his son for all the painting projects! The church is looking good. Thank you also to Duane Hoffert for replacing and reparing the toilets. We appreciate all of the dusting and cleaning Jean Hoffert has provided also! Gaylen Kline is continuously working on sanding and painting of the window frames and sills. We hope our members have taken notice of the clean shining Fellowship Hall floors thanks to Bill Daniel. Thank you to all of our hard workers and trustee members! -Marilou Hill, Secretary Administrative Council Meeting Highlights! The meeting was held on Thursday March 23 rd, 2017. Shirley Smith called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm and Bev Kline opened with devotions. Finances for February looked good we received a check from the Leann Wolf trust this month which was helpful. Expenses continue to remain low and thanks to the warmer winter utility expenses are below budget! The Education Committee is busy planning for the Easter Egg Hunt on April 15 th from 10:00-11:30 am. The trustees have been busy painting and cleaning around the church. They are still working on the estimates for the main roof and should have a better understanding of the cost here very soon. More details will follow, but this is not a project that they are looking to undertake until at least the summer of 2018. There is a Church clean-up day planned for April 22 nd. The Youth raised over 200.00 with their spaghetti dinner! They attended the district lockin recently and will continue to collect items for the Humane Society thru the end of March. Ginny Faeth reported she has all of the funds raised for her mission trip to Ireland. Thanks to the many generous donations. Youth Sunday will be April 30 th this year. Pastor Hannah reported that we will be having a joint Maundy Thursday service here at St. Paul s with Faith UMC. There will be a sunrise service on Easter at 7:30 am followed by a pancake breakfast at 8:15 am the schedule for the rest of the day is the same as usual. -Teresa Nartker, Secretary 7
