EUCHARISTIC ADORATION "Without prolonged moments of adoration, of prayerful encounter with the word, of sincere conversation with the Lord, our work easily becomes meaningless; we lose energy as a result of weariness and difficulties, and our fervor dies out. The Church urgently needs the deep breath of prayer, and to my great joy groups devoted to prayer and intercession, the prayerful reading of God s word and the perpetual adoration of the Eucharist are growing at every level of ecclesial life." (Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium n. 262) Please call Jennifer 940-9858 or Jan 947-4654 if you are interested in spending an hour with Jesus or signing up to be a substitute. The hours we do need help with are: Wednesday 3am Thursday 1am Saturday 2am Saturday 4am(2 times a month) Friends for Life The collection for Friends for Life will be September 18. This is the only collection that benefits the Archdiocese Respect Life Apostolate (RLA). Friends for Life collection supports various programs and services. These are just a few of the RLA s programs that directly impact parishes: * Right START chastity and abortion edu cation program for 8 th grade students in archdiocesan elementary school and PSR programs. * Project Rachel/Project Joseph free counseling and spiritual support meetings for men and women who have been wounded by abortion. * Helpers of God s Precious Infants monthly Mass and Rosary procession to Planned Parenthood celebrated by various priests from around the archdiocese. DYNAMIC CATHOLIC, ALIVE! THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL Are we truly joyful Christians? Do we rejoice at the great gift of faith, forgiveness, and love that we have discovered in our encounter with Jesus? It doesn t take much to rob us of real joy indifference, ingratitude, lukewarmness, and spiritual laziness. But it also doesn t take much to rediscover the treasure we sometimes lose through our own negligence. Take time to safeguard your joy, and celebrate when you find it again! (CCC 2094, 2546). For more, go to www.archstl.org/dynamic. Thanks!!! FROM YOUR PARISH COUNCIL, PLEASE NOTE THE TWO PAGES FOUND LATER IN THIS BULLETIN: Please be sure to read these two pages. The members of a parish council in any parish are meant to be the dreamers and planners for that community of faith. In the report from our parish s Viability Study, you will be able to read what has been guiding our own Council members in planning for our future. Please know that they want to hear from you, especially to hear your suggestions as to how we can become a better family in Christ. MANY THANKS: I m sure that we all have noticed the beautiful green accent pieces added to our Sanctuary s walls, altar, and lectern. The cloth for them was donated by parishioner s Dick and Jane Cannon. In addition, Jane designed and sewed the pieces. They look wonderful! Thanks, Jane and Dick! (An additional thought: We are nearing Stewardship renewal time which begins at the end of September. One of our parish ministries is our Environment and Art Committee. Jane is a part of that committee, and the whole committee was involved with these accent pieces. Please be thinking now of how you may be more of a positive force in our parish by becoming a member of one of our various parish ministries.)

(BACKGROUND: A little over a year ago, Archbishop Carlson asked every parish in our Archdiocese to participate in a Parish Viability Study which would enable each parish to determine its strengths (its assets) as well as its weaknesses (its deficits). The next step would then be for that parish, while celebrating its assets, to begin addressing its deficits. Below you will find our parish s assets and deficits as determined by the members of our Parish Council and a group of parishioners who volunteered to help this process.) PARISH PLANNING PROCESS ST. CLETUS 10 ASSETS & 10 DEFICITS Submitted: November 1, 2015 What are the ten (10) most significant assets/strengths or effective characteristics of your parish corresponding to the Archdiocesan Parish Profile? (For example: Strong Youth Group. Working Parish Council, etc.) Prioritize from number one to number ten, one being the most significant. 1. The parish operates a Catholic school (full-time, part-time, and Life Teen) and publicly supports the Archdiocesan efforts for Catholic education. 2. Parishioners actively participate in the liturgy, sacraments, and religious services as benefited by the availability of our priest. 3. Parishioners are encouraged to use their skills and experiences by demonstrating their stewardship and leadership qualities. 4. The parish organizes, engages, and supports programs to encourage social service and outreach to meet the needs of the poor through St. Vincent de Paul and other mission activities that include local and global missions. 5. The parish provides a welcoming atmosphere and invites people to become involved in a variety of community-building activities. 6. The parish sponsors a social justice committee and demonstrates the importance of Catholic social teaching and advocacy. 7. The parish provides multiple avenues for on-going adult faith development through education such as RCIA, scripture studies, and lecture series. 8. Individual and group prayer opportunities abound such as daily Eucharistic Adoration, prayer groups, and small faith communities. 9. New members regularly step forward to become involved in parish activities and to assume positions of responsibility. 10. The parish values financial stability by possessing a debt-free facility (church, school, and rectory) and enjoys an endowment for our future mission and ministry needs. What are the ten (10) most significant deficits of the parish in matching the Archdiocesan Parish Profile? (For example: No Elderly Ministry, No Young Adult Group, etc.) In other words, what are the pastoral needs that could be implemented in the parish? Prioritize from one to ten, one being the most significant deficit or need. 1. The parish does not provide sufficient focus on evangelization and needs to emphasize it more when planning programs and activities so as to draw alienated Catholics and the unchurched to the Body of Christ. 2. The number of participating parishioners that the parish has is not conducive to support needed programs and activities in the parish. 3. More parishioners need to appreciate and embrace that faith formation is a life-long process. 4. The parish needs to identify means to improve the acceptance of programs that foster and support the parents as the primary educators of their children. 5. The parish is experiencing aging demographics that affects all aspects of parish life. 6. The parish lacks specific programs for young adults. 7. The parish needs to emphasize a welcome program for new parishioners and on-going hospitality for established parishioners. 8. The parish needs to enhance the ability to identify, recruit, and support religious vocations and promote continuing education for catechists and volunteers. 9. The parish needs to improve its efforts to identify, support, and reach out to the marginalized so they feel welcome in our church. 10. The parish needs to address the challenges of its aging facilities.

ST. CLETUS PARISH PLANNING PROCESS: ASSETS/DEFICITS--AN UPDATE Submitted: August 22, 2016 As you may recall, last year the Archdiocese recommended that each parish perform a viability study to determine how it is doing in regards to a list of specific topics. After review and evaluation by a good cross section of parishioners, we developed our rankings for those topics to form our 10 Assets and 10 Deficits. Quite frankly, we were pleased with the strengths, our Assets, that this process surfaced, and we all should be proud of our personal contributions to our parish s successes. But this review did bring to light a number of areas that we need to consider, thus forming our Deficits, or goals for improvement. You will find both lists on the page to the left of this one. These lists have been reported and discussed within our various parish ministry groups. While we, the members of the St. Cletus Parish Council, continue to address what we can do to overcome these deficits, we would like to update you on our progress to date and the plans for future improvements. As you read through the following endeavors, we invite you to compare them with the copy of our Assets and Deficits again printed on the page to the left. Over the past few years, we have been passing out resource books on holidays and feast days such as Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic, Beautiful Mercy, Rediscover Jesus, the seasonal reflection books provided by the Legion of Mary, and the CD Seven Reasons To Be Catholic handed out at Pentecost. (Applies to Deficits #1 & #3) We are conducting a census of current and potential parishioners and plan to reach out to some by going door-to-door. We are also discussing the introduction of a Buddy Family program to enhance participation. (Applies to Deficits #2, #5, #7 & #9) St. Cletus recently sent four parish representatives to support the Archdiocese s beone initiative which you all have been reading about throughout the year in the St. Louis Review. We are now in the process of selecting volunteers from our parish to be a part of a yearlong training called Parish Missionary Disciples to help us all to be better evangelizers in spreading the Good News of Jesus. This past summer, our Men s Club sponsored the Good Dad s initiative. Finally, we have endorsed a program to begin in September entitled That Man is You which will focus on male spiritual growth. (Applies to Deficits #2, #3, & #8) You probably have noticed that we now have Greeters at many of our Masses, and we hope you have experienced their warm welcome. To get additional information about becoming a Greeter, contact Mike or Julie Boschert at boschfam@sbcglobal.net or 636-795-6076. We also have added our electronic sign located near the street for informational and invitational purposes. (Applies to Deficit #7) In regards to aging facilities, one of our main projects this summer was installing a new roof on the school cafeteria, and we will continue to address related building priorities as they arise. (Applies to Deficit #10) The above are just a few things being implemented or considered here at St. Cletus, but, because we all have a say in our community since We are all one body in Christ and One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, we would love to hear from you about suggestions you may have to address our parish s deficits and to make St. Cletus even more of the AWESOME parish family that it already is. Please reach out to any of the Parish Council members or Rich Marquard at rickymarq55@gmail.com or 314-791-2330. Thank You, The members of your St. Cletus Parish Council: Rich Marquard, Chair Bev Frein, Vice Chair Annie Dowdy, Secretary Kelly Bury Beth Del Rosario Beth Hill Al Rothermich Ann Roussel Mark Stahlschmidt Laurie Steinkamp Jerry Stolin Jim Worland Deacon Mark McCarthy Father Jim Benz

At 6:30 A.M., we will watch a 30 minute video followed by 45 minutes of discussion in small groups. The program will end at 8:00 a.m. Contact: Pat 314-406-8755.
