Preston Trail Community Church has always and only existed for one reason: to help people find and follow Jesus Christ. That s what propelled our launch at the Stonebriar AMC 15 years ago, and that s what will continue to be our driving force for The Next 15. While we thank God often for his blessings since our earliest days, we are convinced that God has even greater plans for us in the future. He wants to write new stories in new places locally, regionally, nationally, and globally. To that end, we are excited to enter the first phase of The Next 15. We re calling it Compelled by Love. These words come from the pen of the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:14, where he writes that Christ s love compels us. He was explaining that his desire to share the good news of God s grace was fueled by the love of Christ. That s what motivated him to share the gospel in ever-widening circles. And that is what motivates us to take this next exciting step. Compelled by Love calls us as a church to take clear next steps in our Next 15 Vision. Specifically, we are compelled by love to: EXPAND our Frisco campus at 8055 Independence Parkway. We will add additional space for preschoolers and children, so that we can make room to reach new families who are moving into our community. EQUIP our McKinney campus to reach more people for Christ by providing them with a more permanent location. ENGAGE our nation and our world by planting new churches in strategic, highly unchurched American cities, and by starting global training centers on three continents: Africa, Asia, and Europe. A portion of our support will also go to our Engage partners, both here in North Texas and around the world. As we enter this three-year season of growth and generosity, we are asking you to lead the way with faithful praying, sacrificial giving, and a readiness to go wherever God calls you. Because of your gracious, even extravagant commitment to this capital project, God will use Preston Trail to spread the good news, advance God s kingdom, and help people find and follow Jesus Christ. LEADING FORWARD INTO THE NEXT 15 For Christ s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all. (2 Corinthians 5:14) EXPAND, EQUIP, ENGAGE "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8, NLT) As Preston Trail embarks upon this first capital initiative in our Next 15 Vision, we are compelled by love to share the good news of Jesus locally, regionally, nationally and globally. In the next three years, we will EXPAND our Frisco campus, EQUIP our McKinney campus, and ENGAGE our nation and our world. EXPAND... We will add additional space for preschoolers and children at our Frisco campus, so that we can make room to reach new families who are moving into our community. In the last 15 years, God has written a unique story at Preston Trail. But the story doesn t stop here. New stories in new places are waiting to be written. In the next 15, we are compelled to take the gospel to our world by launching 15 regional multisites, national church plants and global training centers that bear Preston Trail s unique thumbprint. Compelled by Love is the first three-year capital initiative in our Next 15 Vision. We are compelled by love to take the gospel to our world but we can t do it without you. EQUIP... We will equip our McKinney multisite campus to reach more people for Christ by providing them with a more permanent location. ENGAGE... We will plant new churches in strategic, highly unchurched American cities, and start global training centers on three continents: Africa, Asia, and Europe. A portion of our support will also go to our Engage partners here in North Texas and around the world. 8 Compelled by Love Compelled by Love 9

expand "THE EXAMPLE OF JESUS HAS PROVIDED ME WITH THE CLARITY TO KNOW WHAT'S TRULY IMPORTANT IN LIFE." The undeveloped acreage within a four-mile radius of our Frisco location is significant. With over 5,500 undeveloped acres in our immediate vicinity, Preston Trail is strategically located in an area where thousands of new homes will be built in the next three years alone. Tens of thousands more people will be moving into the area immediately surrounding our Frisco campus, and we want to be ready for them. New children s building New interior & exterior play space Expanded atrium space Alternate plan for outdoor student space I was raised Catholic, but left the church during college. From then on it was oneway traffic with God he was pursuing me, while I headed the opposite direction. My wife and I moved to Frisco from California in 2014 along with our two daughters, and over the next several months the pressures of life and the stress of that transition mounted. We decided to give church a try, and visited Preston Trail for the first time in August of 2015. In the following months, we would get involved in a ReEngage group at Preston Trail and make some great friendships. God used the grace of my family, especially my wife, to draw me back to him. He constantly, patiently pursued me until I finally came to the end of my prideful self and realized I am called to serve others, living the example that Jesus set for us. We were baptized together in November of 2016. I just finished an amazing year-long Real Men Boot Camp with nine other incredible men of faith. I m on a Sunday Serve Team. I ve had the opportunity to engage my world through NeighborLove, and trips to Casa Hogar Elim and to Houston for Harvey flood relief. My life now is very different than before, because I m not defined by my job, my possessions or my bank account. The example of Jesus has provided me with the clarity to know what s truly important in life. - Brian Howell "When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, The harvest is great, but the workers are few." (Matthew 9:36-37) 10 Compelled by Love Compelled by Love 11

equip "My prayer is that God will use us and this multisite to reach more people..." Future McKinney campus Secure land or a building that can be refurbished for our purposes Additional equipment as growth demands The launch of our McKinney multisite was the first step toward the fulfillment of our Next 15 Vision. By the time our three-year Compelled by Love capital initiative draws to a close, our goal is that we will have the funds necessary to secure a more permanent location for Preston Trail McKinney. Over the past 15 years the population of McKinney has grown by almost 200%. Along with Frisco, McKinney is currently one of the top three fastest growing cities in the U.S. We know tens of thousands more people will move to McKinney over the next three years, and we are compelled by love to help them find and follow Jesus Christ. I started coming to Preston Trail with my kids in 2015. I love the genuine worship and thought-provoking messages, and my heart comes alive when I m teaching the littles in TrailKids. As soon as I heard about Preston Trail McKinney, I felt the tug to go. My boys were reluctant to leave their leaders and friends, but after they joined me for a Vision Meeting, they were both all in too. Since then we haven t looked back! All three of us serve each week, and I can t believe how connected I feel in McKinney. My prayer is that God will use us and this multisite to reach more people for him. I pray that his presence will continue to be so apparent in each service and to everyone who walks through the doors. - Amber Emery 16 Compelled by Love "I can t believe how connected I feel in McKinney" Compelled by Love 17

ENGAGE "i learned that god will use one person's yes and multiply it." My family first visited Preston Trail in 2008 at the invitation of neighbors. Soon I connected in a Bible study, and experienced was it was like to be truly accepted. My husband and I were baptized together in 2009. We've led connect groups, we've gotten to serve the church in various ways, and we experienced restoration in our marriage. I ve learned about truth and grace, and I ve seen God s power to restore broken things. Jesus has changed my heart. Over the next few years, I became increasingly interested in what God was doing through Preston Trail s ministry to Uganda. In in 2012, I felt like God was telling me that it was my turn to make the journey to Uganda. When I said yes, God showed off. People I would have never expected to support my fundraising efforts sent heartfelt notes and financial support. I learned that God will use one person's YES and multiply it. Support our Engage partners in North Texas, Uganda and Mexico Funds for church plants in strategic, highly unchurched American cities Funds for global training centers in Africa, Asia and Europe I just took my sixth trip to Uganda this summer, and I can't believe that God allows me to be a part of something so wonderful. My husband and my children have been incredibly supportive and encouraging, and it's just part of what we do now as a family. I pray that my children will continue to grow in their faith here at Preston Trail. I'm grateful we were invited to church here all those years ago. The Preston Trail family has shown the love of Jesus to us, and they've shown us what it means to follow Jesus. - Lauren Liles "I often can t believe that god allows me to be a part of something so wonderful." 18 Compelled by Love Compelled by Love 19

faq q A q A When will construction begin on Phase 2? Take a few minutes to review the following questions about the Compelled by Love capital initiative. You may discover you have a question or two you didn t know you had! We want everyone to be as informed as possible about the three exciting years ahead of us. The answers you find here may also help you respond to questions others have in the months to come. After the Compelled by Love initiative is completed this fall, the elders will confer with our Staff Team to determine the final scope of the project. Once this decision is made, our architects will be commissioned to develop final schematic design and the construction documents. Construction would begin in the fall of 2018 at the earliest. The Staff Team will keep the congregation informed of major milestones as Phase 2 progresses! What is the current financial condition of Preston Trail? God has led the people of Preston Trail to be wonderfully generous. Based on our recent history, we project giving to our ministry fund this budget year (July 1, 2017- June 30, 2018) to be $8.9 million. This budget covers all operating expenses for the church. As of September 1, 2017, we had more than three months expenses in cash reserves, which the elders view as adequate to support ongoing church operations. Our Elder Team has set a goal of not allowing our annual debt service to exceed 20% of our annual budget. Currently, the mortgage on our new facility is $14.2 million. Our annual debt service on the mortgage is 15% of our yearly income, which falls well within the elders guidelines. To put this into perspective, if someone makes $100,000 a year and has the same debt-to-income ratio, their house payment (principal and interest only) would be $1,250 per month. The Elder Team views this as a reasonable and prudent use of mortgage debt to accomplish our mission of reaching people for Christ in this season of rapid growth in our region. q A q A Will the church take on any additional debt in Phase 2 of our campus development? Our goal is to fund Phase 2 with little or no additional indebtedness. If we reach our goal of $16 million in commitments to the Compelled by Love initiative, our current projections are telling us we would be able to pay for everything in full and not need to incur any additional debt, which is our hope and prayer! If we fall short of $16 million, however, the Elder and Financial Advisory Teams will confer with our architects and other project representatives to determine the final scope of the project and any additional debt that could be incurred within the guidelines stated above. The Next 15 Vision challenges us to think beyond our Frisco campus, yet most of the funds raised within the Compelled by Love initiative are allotted for Phase 2 construction. Is this out of proportion? Here s something to keep in mind: 100% of all the money received in our Compelled by Love initiative will go to fulfilling our mission helping people find and follow Jesus. We believe this axiom: the light that shines the furthest shines the brightest at home. When we are faithful in reaching our closest neighbors, God will bless us with more passionate people and resources that will in turn resource our multisite launches, national church plants, and Engage partners. Through Compelled by Love, $3 million will be set aside as seed money for a more permanent location for our McKinney campus, and $1 million will be invested over the next three years in our Engage partners, both here in North Texas and around the world. We will fold our annual Project Engage Christmas Offering into the Compelled by Love initiative. Over the last three years we have increased our giving to our partners at a significant pace. In 2014 we shared $65,000 with our partners. We raised our commitment to them to $100,000 in 2015. And last year, we doubled our gifts to $200,000. With the Compelled by Love initiative we will be investing over $300,000 each year in our joint efforts. Please note, no matter the ultimate outcome of our Compelled by Love initiative, we will set aside the $1 million for our partners. If adjustments must be made, they will come from the Frisco or McKinney expansion. 20 Compelled by Love Compelled by Love 21

q A What about Paul and Jim? While they look incredible for their age, are they going to be around to lead the church through the Next 15 Vision? Under the direction of the Elder Team, a ten-year succession plan was initiated for Paul and Jim in 2015. That means, God willing, that they will be leading in a significant capacity for the first eight years of the Next 15 Vision. The goal of all the elders, including Paul and Jim, is that God will provide an extraordinary leader to whom the mantle of leadership can be given and that the Next 15 Vision will provide a challenging vision for Preston Trail as it begins a new chapter in its history. q A What if I am severely in debt? Am I still supposed to give? If you find yourself struggling with debt, our first recommendation would be to find freedom through the biblical principles taught in Dave Ramsey s Financial Peace University. Our Care Ministry would love to help you take a next step toward financial freedom email care@prestontrail.org to learn more. Even as you do that, however, we would suggest you make even a small commitment to Compelled by Love, as an expression of your trust in God to provide for you. Such a tangible demonstration can be a significant way to help you learn that trusting in God really does open up the windows of heaven (Malachi 3:10)! q A Are there additional ways to give more towards Compelled by Love? q A What if I am new around here? Be creative as you explore ways you and your family can give towards Compelled by Love. You might have some stock, property, or other items of that nature. You may have some stored resources that God has blessed you with in the past that he may be calling you to give during this time. Please let us know if you need assistance with facilitating gifts of property or stock. We re glad you re with us! Whether you are a new Christ follower, or are just new to this church, welcome to the Preston Trail family! We want to encourage you to jump into a Connect Group, because we believe that real life change happens best in the context of authentic relationships. Our groups meet in locations all around our community and provide a place for you to connect, grow, and take next steps in life with others. You can find out more about our groups at the Blue Door in the atrium, or online at prestontrail.org/compelledbylove. q What if I have never even given to Preston Trail Community Church before? Should I start now? Compelled by Love is the first phase of a 15-year vision for our church. We believe that the local church is the hope of the world. Therefore, the investment of our generosity into the local church has greater impact than any other endeavor. We would love for you to make Preston Trail Community Church your home and for you to join us for the Compelled by Love Initiative. A If you've never given to Preston Trail before, this might be a great way to start. We would be very appreciative of any commitment you d be willing to make in support of this important initiative. As you do, we hope that in time you will come to see that supporting the ongoing ministries of our church is just as important as our Compelled by Love initiative to the work of God in the world. As the Apostle Paul says in 2 Corinthians 8:7, our prayer is that you will grow in the grace of giving through this experience. 22 Compelled by Love Compelled by Love 23

GROUP STUDY GUIDE How to use this study guide: This guide is broken up into five weekly sections: Week 1: Compelled by Love Week 2: Compelled to Pray Week 3: Compelled to Invite Week 4: Compelled to Give Week 5: Compelled to Go Each weekly section includes two components: 1. A page of questions based on the weekly message, for group discussion or personal reflection. 2. Five days worth of devotional content based on related Scripture passages, for personal study during the week. For Group Discussion: If you are leading a Connect Group, check out prestontrail.org/compelledbylove. Each week by Sunday afternoon you ll find the video content for your group time. Pray before each session, for your group members, your time together, and wisdom and insight. Enjoy your group experience. Have fun! For Personal Study: Five days each week we will explore relevant Scripture and questions, following the S.O.A.P. method of journaling, a simple four-part process that helps you discern God s voice through his written Word. We will also suggest a Scripture verse to memorize each week. If you re looking for help with Scripture memory, try the Scripture Typer App, available for iphone and Android users. The S.O.A.P. process can take 15-20 minutes per day. We encourage you to prioritize this into your life, because Scripture says that when we seek God with all our heart we will find him (Jeremiah 29:13)! 24 Compelled by Love Compelled by Love 25

What does S.O.A.P. mean? S The S stands for Scripture. Write out the scripture, circle, underline, and highlight what stands out to you. O The O stands for Observation. What do you see in the verses you re reading? Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? Where is it taking place? A The A stands for Application. What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my own personal life? How will it impact my thoughts, actions, words and attitudes? P The P stands for Prayer. Pray God s Word back to him in written form as you would write a letter to a friend. Ask him to reveal to you the things in your heart, confess sin, express adoration, and ask him to provide for your needs. S - O - A - SCRIPTURE And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28, NLT OBSERVATION We Know -> This is based on our FAITH This is specific to believers -> We love God, we are called, and we know that he causes everything to work together for our good. Everything -> Remember, he redeems the good AND the bad. Called -> His purpose is to reconcile the world to himself. Being called to his purpose? -> called to be a disciple and to disciple others, to reach those who are far from him. APPLICATION It is easy to ask God for help when things are bad but remember to praise God when things are good! Love God -> I can show my love for God by loving my neighbor as myself! I show my calling by living as Christ lived as closely as I can as a sinful human. P - PRAYER LORD, be with me daily to help me love others, love you, and answer your calling! 26 Compelled by Love Compelled by Love 27

Consider your daily routine. What compels you to do some of the different things you do each day? What influences the way you use your time, energy and resources? Read 2 Corinthians 5:14-20 2. How did God show his love for us? (vv. 18-21) 3. How does this love affect or change us? (vv. 14-17) 4. In verse 16, what are some of the worldly points of view you regularly adopt towards people in your life who are different from you? What would it mean to adopt a godly point of view instead? 5. Read verse 20. Consider the different areas of your life (work, home, friends, community). Have you ever thought of yourself as an ambassador for Christ? What is one practical way that being Christ s ambassador could influence the way you live? 6. What do you think most hinders you from experiencing God s love in its fullness and living it out wherever you are sent? 7. What will it take to reach the goal of the Compelled by Love capital initiative? Knowing that God has a purpose and a plan for each one of us, we are asking you to prayerfully consider how you may participate in Compelled by Love. The Compelled by Love Giving Card is the way to communicate your intent to support this important initiative. We encourage you to get familiar with the card, to consider the Giving Profile and the timing of your gifts. You can plan to give weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or annually, whatever option works best for you for the next 36 months, starting in January of 2018. We invite you to make an initial gift to Compelled by Love in December of 2017, to kick-start the initiative. This also allows you to maximize the tax benefit for four consecutive years, 2017 to 2020. You will receive a Compelled by Love Giving Card in the mail during the week of October 29, and we will also be distributing these cards in our worship services during the final three weeks of the Compelled by Love message series. As a church family, we will have the opportunity to return our Giving Cards during Commitment Weekend, November 11 & 12. We believe every single gift, regardless of size, matters to the heart of God and to the impact of Compelled by Love. The simple question all of us must ask is, Lord, what would you have me to do to help fulfill the vision you have for our community, our region, our nation and our world through Compelled by Love?
