July 17, 2016 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 3 Fr. Brian Bell, Pastor 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time: Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing." Martha was caught up in a whirlwind of her own making. She stressed herself out with all the tasks and chores she thought she had to do to host Jesus, but Jesus wasn't the one who expected all of that. He just wanted Martha's presence, her company and friendship. His only expectation was that Martha would prepare for him her heart, but she was fixated on preparing her home instead. How often do we create a similar whirlwind in our lives? How often do we fixate on external details, on making a good impression, on having all appearances looking just so, but forget what really matters? How often do we make ourselves "anxious and worried" about all we think we have to do? In today's Gospel Jesus calls us to stop the frenetic activity of our lives, to pause and listen, imitating Mary "who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak." This can seem impossible. We look at our calendars and our to-do lists and cannot find a single slot in which to squeeze quiet prayer or silent spiritual listening. But Jesus asks us to reorganize our priorities. He tells us, "There is need of only one thing." Really, Jesus? Have you seen our lists!? What can we possibly eliminate? Don't we need to do all of this? The Lord says no. What we need to do is to make time to be with him. The same Lord who turned water into wine and fed five thousand men with five loaves of bread and two fish can also multiply our time. So instead of being like Martha who tried to tell Jesus what to do-"tell her to help me"-let's be like Mary who listened to what Jesus had to say. egiving with Faith Direct Faith Direct enables Parishioners to make their Church contributions through either direct debit from your checking/savings account or through your credit/debit card. No more writing checks or searching for envelopes on the way out the door. Now you can apply the convenience of direct debit to your parish offerings in much the same way as you may now use it to make your mortgage, car or tuition payments. Faith Direct also offers you personalized offertory cards to replace your envelopes for the collection basket. Please join me in enrolling to Faith Direct. Just visit www.faithdirect.net to enroll securely online or call toll free: 1-866-507-8757 for assistance. Our parish code is AZ734. God Bless you. Father Brian T. Bell Faith Formation News I will be away this week enjoying vacation with my family. Registration for Elementary Faith Formation K-5th Grade will begin the week end of August 13th/14th. If you are interested in joining either team, please call or e-mail Shannon Hards using the contact information below. Thanks and God bless!" July 17, 2016 COME INTO FULL COMMUNION WITH THE CAHTOLIC CHURCH On October 9 th, we will begin our classes for those 16 and older who want to come into Full Communion with the Catholic Church. In past years, many of those who attended The Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA) classes came from marriages and families who practice our Catholic faith. Some have attended Mass for years and for some reason did not feel God s call to join in full communion with our Church. Some of those attending were born into Catholic families and did not receive instruction in all the sacraments. Some have been away from the Church for many years and would like to return. Others were raised in families who were not active in their faith and would like to gain a deeper understanding of Catholic beliefs and strengthen their relationship with God. If you, a family member or friend feel God s call to come closer to Him through worship in the Catholic Church, you are invited to join us this fall in RCIA. For more information about RCIA classes and how to come into full communion with our Catholic faith community, contact Deacon Alan at 480-614-9868. St. Vincent De Paul Will have their meetings on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday, during the summer, in the Old Parish Center in Room 2-7:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Sanctity of Life Ministry You are called to stand up for life! You are called to work and pray against abortion. Saint John Paul II Protecting life is our duty as Catholics and ending legal protection for abortion is imperative. Denver Arthbishop Samuel J.
