THIS WEEK ~ OLOS LENTEN MISSION 2017 Strengthening Our Community in Christ As our Global Church moves into the season of Lent, our parish is entering a new season as well. At this time, it is as important as ever to strengthen our community. Let us explore together how the pillars of Lent -- prayer, fasting and almsgiving -- can strengthen us, as a community and as individuals, for spiritual renewal. A Community Meal and Discussion Sunday, March 5th, 6:00-7:00 PM Join us in O'Connell Hall for simple dinner, a talk and a discussion led by Amber Ezeani, Evangelization Consultant from the Archdiocese of Boston. This is a time to strengthen community through conversation and fellowship. Lenten Evening Prayer: Reflection offered by Liz Cotrupi Monday, March 6th, 7:30-8:30 PM This ancient lay-led prayer tradition will nourish and inspire you with beautiful music, scripture and relevant reflections in a quiet candle lit atmosphere. Liz Cotrupi, Evangelization Consultant from the Archdiocese of Boston, will offer the evening's reflection and will lead a discussion in the church, immediately following Evening Prayer. Celebration of the Eucharist: Reverend Paul Soper, Homilist Tuesday, March 7th, 7:30-8:30 PM We will conclude our Lenten Mission with a Mass, strengthening our community through communion - the Eucharist, the source and summit of the Christian Life. The Homilist is Fr. Paul Soper, the Director of Pastoral Planning for the Archdiocese of Boston. Come to one night or come to all three. We would love to see you there! Free babysitting services will be offered in the Bullock Center each evening. First Sunday of Lent

My Dear Friends in Christ, It is with a full heart that I write to share the news that I received from the Archdiocese of Boston Clergy Personnel Board this past week that I will be leaving Our Lady of Sorrows on June 1 st of this year. Throughout my two years as OLOS s temporary Administrator, I have grown to love and care deeply for this community. Your energy, dedication and goodness are evident in the love that you share, bringing to mind the song, they will know we are Christians by our love. You have been an inspiration to me, and it has been a blessing to serve you. Our Lady of Sorrows has been assigned her next pastor, Fr. Frank Daly, who will be writing and visiting to introduce himself in the upcoming weeks and months before he begins his assignment here in June. I hope that you will show to him the same support that you have shown to me throughout my time here. As Our Lady of Sorrows moves forward as a collaborative of one with Fr. Daly, may you feel energized by the love of Christ and the knowledge that you are the body of Christ. In a time of transition, the strength of the parish depends on you. I pray that you will continue to lean on your rich history of strong lay leadership and a commitment to dialogue. Finally, I want to thank all of you for your love, prayers, and support, and ask that you continue to keep me in your prayers. Sincerely, Fr. Vincent Doolan March 5, 2017

Sharon, MA From Senior Deacon Mike: The ashes are blessed; the congregants come forward. The minister imposes ashes upon the congregant. remember you are dust and unto dust you shall return We embrace our Lenten journey anew! Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Changes to the Mass for the Lenten Season The parish Liturgy Committee has been evaluating how we worship with the help of the General Instruction on the Roman Missal. It is the manual on how to celebrate the Mass that establishes standards for authentic worship and promotes liturgical options. We are implementing some changes as we enter the season of Lent. At the beginning of Mass we will use option one for the reconciliation rite. This is the one that begins, I confess to Almighty God, and to you my brothers and sisters and is found on the inside front cover of the hymnal. Next, instead of saying Lord, have mercy; Christ have mercy we will sing the ancient Greek trope, Kyrie eleison, Christe eleison. Likewise, we will sing the Agnus Dei, instead of Lamb of God, just before communion. We will use a very simple chant setting. The most noticeable change will be one that has no words. Every scripture reading is an invitation to the conversion of our hearts and minds. The General Instruction calls for silence between the readings, after the homily and after communion. You can be assured that the lector has not lost his or her place. Rather, silence offers us moments to think about what we have heard and to begin to prayerfully respond to God s Word. On the first Sunday of Lent, the choirs will have been moved to the stage behind the altar. The baptismal font and paschal candle will relocate to the area where the choir currently resides. The major reason for the change is improved acoustics. This is an experiment that we will conduct for the seasons of Lent and Easter. The changes are not for novelty s sake. Rather, we are plumbing the depths of our rich Catholic tradition to enhance our worship. The goal is to nurture our prayer experience and let the liturgy bring us even closer to God. Thank you for your understanding and good will as we move forward. ~ The Liturgy Committee Last Sunday, February 26th, Evan Richards was baptized by Deacon Frank. Please join us in welcoming Evan and his parents, Ianmichael and Jessica to the Our Lady of Sorrows family. Welcome to Our Lady of Sorrows Parish.
