NOTES FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Living in the Joy of the Lord Jesus summarizes His mission to us for coming into the world: that we may share in His joy by remaining in Him and living in His love. He said that as the Father loves Him, He loves us and He invites us to live in His love by loving one another as He loves us so that His joy may be in us. In other words, the joy of God and the joy of life is love. It is the love that comes from the Father to Jesus and from Jesus to us. It is a call to faith in God's love and to rejoice in that love. We must constantly lift our hearts and minds to God and meditate in His love - rejecting all that is contrary to love. When we get up in the morning we should spend a few moments reflecting in God's love and rejoicing in the gift of the new day and be open to love all we meet. When we connect with God's love and let His love imbue us, we live in that love throughout the day. Love is what casts out fears and heals all things. That is why we celebrate with joy and gratitude the love of our mothers today. A loving mother is a sign of God's pure love for us. Let us thank God for our mothers, for their love and inspiration and for their constant encouragement. Happy Mother s Day to all our mothers! - Fr. Eduino Silveira The Holy Spirit Still Guides Us In today s First Reading from St Paul, we find examples of the Holy Spirit guiding the early Church. The Holy Spirit gave St Peter a vision to help him understand that he was to accept a former pagan (Cornelius) into the new Christian community. The Responsorial Psalm 98, continues the theme of God guiding the Church in the early days with the Apostles missionary efforts. They soon came to realize that God wants the Good News preached to all people, not just the Jewish nation. The refrain celebrates God reaching out to those not part of the original covenant; a new covenant is established between God and all peoples, so all are invited to sing His praise. Today s Second Reading centers on love as the outpouring of oneself in service of others. God sets the first example by sending His only Son Jesus to die out of love for us. This is the true meaning of love, not a feeling, but a choice. Today s Gospel also focuses on true love. God loved us so much that in the person of Jesus He laid down His life for us. This death brought us the gift of the Holy Spirit to help us live His example of love in giving of ourselves to others. It s a choice, a decision we make to follow and emulate Christ; it s not a feeling. We are now part of an intimate relationship with God, we are no longer slaves, but friends. Through Jesus death and by the Holy Spirit s action in the sacraments and in the Church, God gives us the strength to be His children, His friends.

STEWARDSHIP AT OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION FINANCIAL SUPPORT Offertory Collection Results for May 2nd & 3rd, 2015: $12,461.30. This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one s life for one s friends - John 15:12-13 Do you love Jesus? Do you consider Him your friend? Jesus says that if we love Him we should be willing to offer whatever we have to Him, not because we want praise and glory, but simply because we love Him. Catholic Communication Campaign Next week, our parish will take up a special second collection Catholic Communication Campaign. Your donations allow the Church to communicate the Gospel through Catholic social media activities and enriches our faith through podcasts, television, radio, and print media. Half of all proceeds remain in our diocese and support local needs, so please be generous in this collection. REMEMBRANCES & SPECIAL EVENTS Baptisms We welcome: Grant Michael Casagrande, son of Jack and Sara (Vercruyssen) Arya Elaine Whittenburg, daughter of Christopher and Vera (Dinis) Happy Mother s Day! A baby asked God, They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless? Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you. The child further inquired, But tell me, here in heaven I don t have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy. God said, Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel s love and be very happy. Again the child asked, And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don t know the language? God said, Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak. And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you? God said, Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray. Who will protect me? God said, Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life. But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore. God said, Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you. At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel s name. You will simply call her, Mom! We hope all Mothers enjoy their special day. Happy Mother s Day!
