We needed rain but it is nice to see the sun again and give the ground a chance to absorb all the rainwater. Next Saturday July 1 st is our annual family 4 th of July party starting at 11 AM. Bring the kids and have a great time. We will start setup at 9 AM so feel free to come and help. Because of the 4 th holiday, our monthly council business meeting will be on Wednesday, July 5 th, please plan to attend. A new item for the calendar is Tuesday August 1 st. We will once again be working with Social Justice at their annual Back to School Carnival. We can use help so plan to be there at 10 AM for setup in Founders Hall. Officer installation will be held after the 4 PM mass on July 8 th with dinner to follow at the Hall. Our battle with State & Supreme concerning non existent members. Most of you have heard that it is next to impossible to get members removed from our roster. Even if they have moved to who knows where and the Parish verifies that they are no longer parishioners, we are still charged both Supreme and State per capita on these (Continued on page 5)

Knightline Knights of Columbus Tara Council # 6352 Newsletter July 2017 Page 2 of 6 Deputy Grand Knight Gentlemen, I am looking forward to this Fraternal Year. I see a great number of opportunities for you as a member to be actively involved. If you have not had an opportunity to be involved last year please rededicate your commitment to the council and our programs. As a council we are constantly assisting the parish and the local community with our charitable works. While we support our community with our time our monitory support comes directly from the success of our fund raising and recruiting events. The success of each event rest on the those who help with the event. If you are not able to work an event, come eat, have your photo taken, pick up a few items from the annual monastery sale. Sitting on the sidelines is not really a good option. Fraternally yours David Hinckley Deputy Grand Knight Public Affairs Officer dgk@taracouncil.org July Saturday, July 1, 2017 Council 4th of July Picnic Tuesday, July 4, 2017 Wednesday, July 5, 2017 Council Business Meeting Saturday, July 8, 2017 Installation Mass Ceremony & Dinner at Hall 4PM Saturday, July 8, 2017 Work Day (8AM-12 Noon) Ladies Invited Tuesday, July 11, 2017 Officer & Six Point Meeting 6:30 PM & 7:30 PM Mens Club Meeting as well Wednesday, July 12, 2017 Monthly Event Senior Breakfast 07:30 set up for Breakfast 9:30-10:30 (after Mass) 2nd WED of the Tuesday, July 18, 2017 First Degree Ceremony Saturday, July 29, 2017 Council #7601 Installation of Officers at 4 PM Saturday, July 29, 2017 Friar Santo Farewell weekend August 12-Aug-17 Work Day

Ladies, Knightline Knights of Columbus Tara Council # 6352 Newsletter July 2017 Page 3 of 6 Ladies Auxiliary Presidents Corner We all bid farewell to a soggy June and look forward to the remaining summer months ahead. July 4 th is a grand holiday with patriotism, food, fireworks and fresh fruits and vegetables. The Knights brake with tradition and celebrate their picnic on the 1 st. The installation of new officers takes place this month and I thank Mary Millay, Clare Evon and Mary Hale for all the help and support this past year. I believe we had a good year, had fun and were financially able to provide more to our charity projects. Our Big Time BBQ Dinner was a big project for us and it turned out to be a grand event. I look forward to the upcoming year and hopefully we can do even more to add to the fun and excitement to being a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. We need everyone s input and ideas to make this work. Our most recent project of the fans in the lounge is a great improvement to the comfort of the room. And they look great! A big thank you to Nancy Paulus for undertaking this project. Knightline Knights of Columbus Tara Council # 6352 Newsletter July 2017 Page 4 of 6 Chaplain's Corner I like reading Lorraine Murray s column, entitled Faith and Values, in the AJC. In a recent column she bemoans the lack of silence in our lives. Television holds court in our living rooms, with talking heads putting their own spin on what ought to be news, weather gurus predict the next cataclysm, ridiculous talk shows provide empty chatter, and we are besieged by tons of advertisement --- all at cranked up volumes. The areas which should be filled with calm, doctor offices and elevators, have muzak (not music). Some stores have such loud music playing over their systems that a hasty retreat is the best you can do. Computer generated calls and advertisements invade the refuge of our homes. When we do retreat to the refuge of our back yards, we are besieged by the noise of our neighbor s leaf blower, lawn mover, and the rattle of heavy trucks. Where is God? Why is He so far away?, we ask. Perhaps the problem is that we spend so much time tweeting, texting, and making noise, that we do not hear Him. One of the psalms does state, Be still and know that I am God. It would be great if we could use our summer getaways, whether it be the ocean, the mountains, or our homes, to change from our routines. It would also be wonderful to take a vacation from noise everyday. Can you get away from the blaring noises? Can you turn off your phone, your tv, your radio? Can you turn off your e-mail and your text, at least for a little while, and attempt to pray? Mother Theresa of Calcutta and her Sisters did, and still do, fantastic work in very difficult circumstances. She stated that the Sisters could not do what they did, unless they knew what silence was. They did this be spending at least one hour of praying before the Blessed Sacrament each day. You don t need to go away to a monastery for a retreat, but you do need to retreat from noise. Take a short vacation from noise each day. Blessings, Friar Paul

Our Lady of Fatima 100th Anniversary Celebration Knightline Knights of Columbus Tara Council # 6352 Newsletter July 2017 Page 5 of 6 Fatima Centennial 1917 2017 We will celebrate the centennial starting in June. The statue of our Lady of Fatima will be in the sanctuary after morning Mass till 5 PM. On the days our Lady appeared to the three children, Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta. Tuesday, June 13th; Thursday, July 13th; Saturday, August 19th; Wednesday, September 13th and Friday, October 13th. Each of these days we will pray the Rosary after Mass. We will also pray the Angelus at noon and pray the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On Saturday, October 14th we will pray a public Rosary at noon on the grounds of the Historic Courthouse in Jonesboro. Please join us in praying to our Blessed Virgin Mary. Take the time, one hour a month, and visit with our lady. (Continued from page 1) members. Honorary & Life members are exempt, but we must pay for all others, even if their copy of the Columbian is returned to Supreme by the USPS. It is a numbers and money game to keep the $ flowing into State & Supreme. This is a national problem that everyone is aware of, but Supreme will not acknowledge it and fix it. So whether or not you pay your annual dues to us, we are charged for you a wasteful expense of our funds. Last month our DGK David mentioned this in his newsletter article. He also requested that you pay your dues. If you are no longer interested in being a member of the Knights, send us a letter of resignation and we will attempt to have you removed. We have not received one letter of resignation nor have we been overwhelmed with dues payments. Don t continue to be an expense for the council if you are no longer interested. Help us keep our expenses down. Hope you are having a good summer. See you at the picnic. Bob Kula
