All month special prayers will be offered at all of our masses for those who have died. In remembering them we are reminded of our belief in the Communion of Saints. That is, our connection, in faith, with all of God s people past, present and future. Please be sue to list the names of deceased family members or friends in the Book Of Remembrance. It is located in the front of the church, near the sacristy. Also, Thank You to all who have expressed condolences to me and my family on the death of our Dad. We very much appreciate your prayers and support. Lastly, all registered families should have received a letter from the parish asking for your participation in the Grand Annual Collection. (If you did not receive a letter there are copies at the doors of the church.) Thank you to those who have already made a donation The success of the Grand Annual collection is essential for our financial stability. Please plan on giving generously, as your means allow. If all parishioners will make some sort of contribution we should have no trouble reaching our goal of $150,000. No gift is too small (or too large) to be greatly appreciated and put to good use! Thank you. NEW PRAYERS & TRANSLATIONS FOR MASS On November 27, 2011, the First Sunday of Advent, a new Roman Missal, the book with the official prayers of the priest and people for use at Mass, must be used. There will be many changes for both the priest and people. What exactly is changing? The structure of the Mass (the order of the elements, the actions of the priest celebrant, and so forth) remains unchanged in the new edition of the Roman Missal. However, the translation of the prayer texts will change to more closely reflect the original Latin texts. In some cases, new options for prayers may be available, and some old options will no longer be present. Saints and feasts that have not been added to the liturgical calendar since the last edition of the book will now be included. Will the changes be noticeable? In the third edition of the Roman Missal, almost every prayer in the Mass - those spoken by the priest and those spoken by the people - has been retranslated from the Latin to English. Some prayers now recited by memory will need to be relearned, and the familiar language of many prayers recited by the priest will change. In preparing the new translation, the translators were asked to make the English texts conform more closely to the Latin originals and to restore Pre-Vatican II theological vocabulary that communicates concepts of the faith. The language that the faithful will hear and pray is more formal and more complex than the language of everyday conversation. It favors theological concepts and biblical language and images. Elder Ministry Seeking Eucharistic Ministers for Elderly Facilities and the Homebound We are looking for volunteers who can bring communion to people who are in nursing homes and assisted living facilities in our area, and also to people who are homebound due to illness or disability. This is a wonderful way to share our Eucharistic banquet with those who are nearby but unable to be with us. You can fit this to your own schedule, and offer as little as an hour or two a week, on weekdays or weekends. No prior experience is needed. Deacon Tim O Donnell and his wife Elke will provide some training and help with the logistics. If you are interested in exploring this, please contact Elke O Donnell at 617-876-6489 or elke.odonnell@comcast.net Do You Know Someone Who Cannot Make it to Mass? We know there are people among us - parishioners, family members, neighbors, and friends - who would like to join us at the Eucharistic table but are prevented from doing so by disability or illness. If you know of anyone who is homebound or otherwise unable to come to Mass, and who would like to receive the Eucharist, please let us know by calling the parish office 617-547-4235 and requesting a Eucharistic minister to bring communion to them.
