Prayer Line: Jo Kusz 651-771-7438 From the Pastor Christ the King - A Unique King With a Unique Kingdom With the celebration of Christ the King this weekend, we have come to the conclusion of one more liturgical year. Next Sunday we begin the most wonderful season of Advent. For the last 34 weeks of Ordinary Time, we have been journeying with Jesus, meditating upon the major events and messages of Jesus, renewing and deepening our God experience. Today we are invited and encouraged to reaffirm the kingship and the reign of Jesus in our lives and live as the faithful and committed citizens of God s kingdom. It was Pope Pius XI who introduced this feast in 1925. Although emperors and kings now exist mostly in history books, we still honor Christ as the King of the Universe, by enthroning him in our hearts and allowing him to take control of our lives. St. Polycarp, the bishop of Smyrna, was brought before the Roman authorities and told to curse Christ, and he would be released. He replied, "Eighty-six years have I served him, and he has done me no wrong: how then can I blaspheme my king Jesus Christ who saved me?" Jesus Christ still lives as king, in thousands of hearts all over the world. The cross is his throne and the Sermon on the Mount is his rule of law. His citizens need obey only one major law: "Love one another as I have loved you." His love is selfless, sacrificial, compassionate, forgiving, and unconditional. He is a king with a saving and liberating mission: to free humanity from all types of bondages, enabling us to live peacefully and happily on earth and to inherit eternal life in heaven. Signs seen at churches: "Come work for Christ the King. The work is hard, the hours are long, and the pay is low. But the retirement benefits are very grand and out of this world." Viva Cristo Rey. -Fr. Benny Mekkatt, CFIC Novena to the Immaculate Conception You are welcome to join in a Novena to the Immaculate Conception starting on November 29 and ending on December 7, the Vigil of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. A Novena is a nine-day period of private or public prayer to obtain special graces, to implore special favors, or to make special petitions, as well as a spiritual preparation for the celebration of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on Monday, December 8. Each day of the Novena will start with Mass followed by the recitation of the Novena prayer. Novena Prayer Cards are located at all the church entrances. Children s Christmas Choir Children in Grades 1-8 are invited to join the Children s Christmas Choir. Rehearsals will be from 9:40 to 10:20 am on Sundays, November 30, December 7, December 14, and December 21. We will sing at 4:00 pm Mass on Christmas Eve. Registration forms are available in the Parish Office or at the Kennard Street entrance. H.E.O. Update Thank you for your donations to area food shelves. 106.8 pounds went to Salvation Army, Mplwd., on November 17. November 24 Tom & Irene O Ryan, Merrick Comm. Serv., Mplwd. Thank you for your generosity! May God bless you!

Faith Formation The children in Faith Formation did beautiful work on their Thanksgiving projects, all of which are related to giving thanks to God for the gifts given to them: Jesus, food, family, pets, school, church, clothes, air, water. They took the projects home so they can display them where the whole family can be reminded of the real meaning of the holy holiday of GIVING THANKS. Now we will begin to prepare for Advent to remind us of the great GIFT given to us in JESUS-EMMANUEL. We wish all our parishioners a peaceful and thankful THANKSGIVING feast. - Sara Bertini, S. Kathy, and all the Catechists Social Concerns Justice: It is right and JUST that we give thanks always, all ways. We ask for a piece of sand and God gives us beaches. We ask for a drop of water and God gives us rivers, oceans, and deep wells. We ask for time and God gives us each new day and then life eternal. We ask for food and God gives us gardens, grocery stores, and fruit trees. It is easy for us to fall in love with the gifts and forget the GIVER. We celebrate the Eucharist and give thanks, mindful that the word EUCHARIST means thanksgiving. Charity: To all donors and those who delivered the food to families in need: May God bless you for the joy you shared this past week. You are an example of faith in action. These include the out-of-town guests who contributed a ton of things to help meet the needs of people in poverty. This also includes a gentleman who donated a kitchen table and 4 chairs to a family greatly in need of them. The recipients are deeply grateful. Thanksgiving dinners can still be donated: food items, cash, or gift cards. Also needed: another kitchen table and 4 chairs. Our Advent Giving Tree will be in church again this year. The angels in the pews are all invited to take the angel tags off and purchase the indicated gifts for persons who otherwise would not have a gift for Christmas. (Santa doesn t visit their homes!) Kindly read the directives on the back of the tags. Advent Collection During Advent we will once again collect baby items for moms in need and their infants. Contributions will go to Options for Women East-LifeCare. Our greatest need is for the following items: new infant clothes 0-12m, diaper bags, Boppies with covers, bath supplies (towels, washcloths, lotions, and soaps), baby health kits, baby soft cover books, small and large bottles, infant toys, activity gyms, nursing pads, onesies, socks, cold weather outfits 0-12m, and new or gently used high chairs and strollers. We prefer that all donations be new with the exception of the last item for high chairs and strollers. Please place your items in the crèches in front of the confessionals. Donations will be accepted until January 11, 2015. Pastoral Care GAMBLERS ANONYMOUS: Meets Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm in the Parish Center lower level. For more information, please call Colleen at 651-295-9853. No Thursday Adoration Please note that there will be no Adoration on Thursday, November 27 (Thanksgiving Day). Stewardship When the Son of Man comes in glory, may we be among those who have fed the hungry, welcomed the stranger, and clothed the naked. For Jesus tells us clearly that it is those who have demonstrated good stewardship by sharing their gifts with the less fortunate who will receive God s blessing and inherit the kingdom. Stewardship and Thanksgiving - Ms. Sandy In this season of thanksgiving, a sincere 'Thank You' is in order to everyone who supports our congregation throughout the year with their attendance, service, and regular financial contributions. For those of you who are interested, the church offers electronic giving options for making donations on a scheduled, automated basis. It's convenient for you and provides much-needed financial consistency for the church. Pick up an authorization form at the Kennard Street entrance or Parish Center. Angel Program for Tuition Assistance The Angel Program for Tuition Assistance invites people in our parish community and beyond to become Angels who help make Catholic education possible for everyone who desires it. We initiated the Angel Program in 2012 to allow our parishioners and other benefactors to make their support for Catholic education practical and tangible. A brochure and pledge card can be found at the end of your pew or at the Kennard Street entrance. Please give generously to this important program.
