Church Leadership Pastoral Residency Ministry to Begin at First Baptist Church In the Business Meeting on Jan 20th, our church unanimously voted to become one of a handful of Baptist churches around the country that are investing in the lives of young pastors through a Pastoral Residency Ministry. This opportunity will allow everyone in our congregation the chance to help shape the life and ministry of a young pastor who is entering the ministry. I am proud of our church for stepping out in faith to support this work. I am also proud of the Residency Team and the Serving Team for their vision and perseverance in working to provide meaningful and lasting missions opportunities for our church. In the weeks ahead, we will be contacting seminaries with whom we have ongoing relationships to share with them this new ministry opportunity and begin taking candidate applications. Our team will continue to meet and work to craft the scope and curriculum for our incoming resident. In the months to follow we will recruit our Lay Leadership team and prayer partners for this endeavor. Our Pastor, Carol McEntyre and the Resident Director, Bob Russell will work together to lay out a plan of council and evaluation to ensure the ministry s successful start. In March, our Residency Team, in concert with the Pastor, will sort through applicants and begin to interview prospective residents. We expect initial rounds of interviews to take place in March and April with final rounds to occur in May. We hope to have our selection process completed by the end of May for presentation to the church in June. Our Pastoral Residency ministry is set to officially begin August 1st, 2017. Indeed, these are exciting times at First Baptist. We ask that our church body begin praying for all those working to make this ministry successful and for our first residential candidate. If you are interested in being a part of this work, please contact Mark Thomas, Mission Team Chair, at thomasme@missouri.edu, or Michael McEntyre, Associate Pastor of Youth, College and Young Adults, and Missions, at mmcentyre@fbc-columbia.org. Thank you for your ongoing support. Fulfilling a long-time dream of having all ages studying the same topic for a time, on Sunday, January 29th we began a 5-week series on building up the church in worship. All Sunday morning small group sessions, including First Kids, as well as the sermons, are focusing on this topic. If you aren t currently participating in a Sunday Morning Small Group, it s not too late to join one for the remainder of the series (or beyond)! Leadership Night Monday, February 13 at 5:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall everyone who serves on one of First Baptist teams (Congregational Care, Teaching Team, Worship Team, Mission Team, Telling Team and Administrative Team) is invited to a Leadership Dinner. We will eat together, orient you to your work, talk about the expectations of our leaders, worship and sing. We are serving Lee s chicken. Please RSVP to Administrative Assistant, Janet Deneke, at churchinfo@fbc-columbia.org and be sure to tell her it is for the leadership dinner! Preaching and Teaching Series

Youth, College & Young Adults The Calling / Studio 1B All students 6th- 12th grade are invited to join us Wednesday nights at 6:15pm in the youth suite for the Calling. The Calling is our mid-week Bible study designed for students grade 6-12. Join us each week Don t miss our College/ Young Adult Retreat Feb. 10-12th Join us for a spiritual retreat at the beautiful Windermere Conference Center. It s a space for college students and young adults to meet new people, renew focus, and draw closer to God. It s a pause from the hustle-and-bustle of life to find meaningful worship, engaging conversation, and new friends. The cost is $20 for the weekend. Please contact Michael McEntyre (mmcentyre@fbc-columbia) to register. College / Young Adult Ministries Our college and young adult ministry is an outlet for those in the midst of becoming independent adults to pose their questions about faith and all areas of life. We have multiple events throughout the year that promote free discussion, fellowship and fun. From February-May and September-December the group meets most Sunday nights from 5:30-7:00 pm on the 3rd floor to explore our faith and grow in our walk with Christ and each other. On Sunday, February 5th, we will have a Superbowl party - details to come soon. The group will not meet on Sunday, February 12th - we hope all can join the retreat instead! You may notice something missing from our hallways this month. For the past two years, February has the time for our Youth Envelope Challenge. The Envelope Challenge has been a way to support our students to help keep the cost of events such as camp and retreats affordable for everyone. Because of your generosity over the past two years, we still have sufficient money available in this scholarship fund to cover our projected expenses for 2017, so you won t see any envelopes this year. I thank you for your support of our student ministry, and while we aren t asking for money, I do hope you will continue to pray for our students and make it a point to get to know the fantastic youth we have here at First Baptist. Many blessings. Michael McEntyre, Associate Pastor for Youth, College and Young Adults, and Missions It s NOT back?!?
