Please contact the head usher if you are in need of child care. Gathering The light of Christ is brought into the Sanctuary *Introit Hymn 478 (1st page of hymn section) Welcome & Announcements (All are invited to sign in the Friendship Register) Let us prepare our hearts and minds to worship God Chimes Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven Phyllis Feyh, Liturgist Call to Worship (taken from Psalm 121, ESV) One: I lift up my eyes to the hills, from where does my help come? All: My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. One: He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. All: Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. One: The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. All: The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore. *Opening Hymn 345 Dear Lord and Father of Mankind Call to Confession One: The Lord is my light and my salvation; All: Whom shall I fear? One: The Lord is the stronghold of my life; All: Of whom shall I be afraid? One: I will sing and praise the Lord, Lord, listen to my voice when I cry out, have mercy on me and answer me! All: Come, my heart says, seek God s face. Lord, I do seek your face! Please don t hide it from me! Amen. Prayer of Confession One: God of living water, we confess the dryness of our lives: All: The brittle words we have thought and spoken, the relationships that are crumbling, the arid perspective that centers on self, the cracked and jagged edges of our world. One: Hear our confession, O Christ, and rain down your mercy upon us. Declaration of Forgiveness One: Jesus says, Those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of living water. All: Let us drink deeply of the water of Christ s forgiveness. 2

The Peace One: May the Peace of Christ be with you. All: And also with you. Let us pass the Peace to one another. *Congregational Response 581 Holy, Holy, Holy Lord CCLI License # 1049021 The Word Children s Time Prayer of Illumination One: O Gracious God, form in us humble, teachable, and obedient hearts, that we may receive what you have revealed, and do what you have commanded. Remind us that we do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from your mouth. Reform us to hunger for your heavenly food. May your love nourish us today that we allow the darkness to see your eternal life. Let this be our heart s desire as we give with thankfulness and mercy. All: Amen. 3

Scripture Reading (NRSV): Psalm 133, John 20:19-31 Next Week s Scripture (ESV): Psalm 92:1-8, Luke 24:36-48 One: The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. Special Music Lou Howard Sermon Life and Death Transitions Clancy Cherry *Hymn 101 When I Survey the Wondrous Cross *Statement of Faith (in unison) Apostles Creed (Traditional) I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. AMEN. Prayers of the People Silent Prayer Time The Lord s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Responding with Thanks Call for Offering One: God who gives great gifts: This day we give you praise, we give you glory, we give you thanks! The resurrection of the Christ is humming in our hearts. Our minds are tuned to hear your song of peace! All: Let us give with love and rejoicing. Amen. Offertory *Doxology 592 Praise God, From Whom All Blessings Flow *Prayer of Dedication All: We joyfully present these gifts to you as a chorus of heartfelt thanksgiving. May it be a harmony of hope for your kingdom and an extension of mercy to those in need. Amen. 4
