St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church 6425 West Metairie Avenue Metairie, Louisiana 70003 HOW DO WE TREAT THE MESSENGER? Let s not be too hasty in defining who is the wicked one and who (namely us) is just! We are very quick to label others as evil, because we tend to label ourselves as good guys. We don t like it when we are brought up short by a prophetic voice that brings us some bad news about our own behavior. We don t like to be reproached for transgressions of the law or charged with violations of our training. We may condemn and abuse those who bring us up against these truths about ourselves when, if we were really good, we would thank them for helping to keep us on the right path. This is the way they treated the prophets and the way they treated Jesus. Is this also the way we treat those whose message we don t like? Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. MARRIAGE & FAMILY LIFE SMM FAMILY DAY 2018 Theme: Joy in the Family Sunday, September 23 is Family Day throughout the Archdiocese of New Orleans - a day in which we celebrate the holiness of our families. FAMILY DAY PRAYER Lord God, we thank you for the gift of Family. We acknowledge that our image and name as family come from You. We believe that within our family lies a homemade holiness. We affirm that it is in this household of faith that we experience Your presence, Your forgiveness, and Your love. We are family. We give thanks to You For the many joys and blessings that have come to us through our family. As family, we sometimes feel pain. And so we offer to You our disappointments, frustrations and hurts. Help us to forgive those members of our family, including ourselves, who have caused pain. We pray for the strength to be a light within our family. May we open our hearts, our eyes and ears and carry our light to those in need. God, creator of the earth and all its people, help us to be mindful that, as members of one global family, we are equal in Your eyes. Help us to continue to appreciate the diversity of persons in our home and in our world. As equal members may we build a better world and proclaim our willingness to be the holy people You call us to be. Amen.
