The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ ~Romans 8:16-17 If we are heirs to the kingdom of God, shouldn t we work to build up His kingdom? Shouldn t we be good stewards of our inheritance, using our time, talent and treasure to care for the Church that God has left to us? Our Church is a treasured heirloom from God. Do we treat it that way? From the weekend of May 24, 2015 Weekly Giving Goal............... $15,000.00 Actual Weekly Giving.............. $10,147.00 2014-2015 Fiscal Year to Date (From 7-1-14) Weekly Giving Goal.............. $690,000.00 Actual Weekly Giving............. $680,154.00 Goal to Date for Year +/(-)......... $ (9,846.00) We are always very grateful for the sacrifices you make to support the mission, goals, and ministry of St. Luke Church. Thank you for your generosity!

A thorough inspection of the condition of the exterior of the church and tower was recently completed. Project specifications have gone out for bid to five contractors. Our Parish Finance Council will decide on the best proposal and approve it. Because of the magnitude of this expense, approval must also be received from the Archdiocesan Finance Council. Then the work can begin. We are moving forward as quickly as we reasonably can, so that the work may be completed this summer and fall. Meanwhile, sample areas of cleaning the stone have been done, as seen in these photos. St. Luke Church and its tower will soon gleam like brand-new when this project is completed. Get your sunglasses ready! Cleaning the stone work. This test area shows the before-and-after contrast of cleaning decades of grime off the window sills and foundation. In this test area, the upper right side is cleaned; the left side is not. MAY 31, 2015 The Most Holy Trinity 3

This is the only annual collection for retired priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago. The Archdiocese receives no funds from the Religious Retirement Collection taken in December. Those donations go to religious nuns and brothers and religious order priests. There are more than 200 retired priests in our Archdiocese. They represent more than one-quarter of all the priests serving the Archdiocese. Normal retirement age is 70 for Chicago priests, yet their life as a priest does not stop. Sixty-five retired priests live in a rectory and assist the parish on a regular basis. Almost 140 celebrate Sunday Mass weekly, perform marriages and baptisms, and visit the sick. Without these dedicated men, many parishes would not be able to offer the Masses and sacraments that are now provided. There are two independent living residences for retired priests that are subsidized by the Archdiocese. There is space for 38 retired priests to enjoy communal living with their brother priests in retirement. In the past year, 25 priests received or are currently receiving nursing home assistance or have aides coming to their home or rectory. This care costs more than $1.3 million annually. Pensions cost another $2.8 million a year, but the priests pension fund is still adversely affected by the economic downturn. Millions of dollars will be needed to bring it to appropriate funding levels. When prescriptions, medical care, and other expenses are added in, the Archdiocese will need a total of almost $6.8 million for this coming year. Perhaps you remember with fondness the priests who baptized you, gave you First Communion, celebrated your marriage, and visited you in the hospital. These men who served and are still serving in many places need your assistance now. The Archdiocese of Chicago is committed to caring for our retired priests but we need your assistance. Please help and many, many thanks for your care and generosity on June 14. 4 WELCOME TO ST. LUKE River Forest, IL 60305-1835 Invitations have been mailed out for the gala June 28 celebration of Fr. Ken s 15 years of ministry to St. Luke Parish. If you did not receive yours, please contact the rectory at 771-8250 and we will be happy to send you an invitation. Past and present parishioners are cordially invited to gather on this special day to thank Fr. Ken and to wish him well in his future endeavors. The celebration will begin at the 10:30 Mass (no Noon Mass on this day) followed by a reception in the St. Luke Gym. We hope to see everyone there on June 28! The 3rd grade students at St. Luke Parish School completed a wildly creative and artistic book report project during the month of May. The students read a fantasy book of their choice. Then in Art Class, the students made puppets from materials found in the Art Room. Once the puppets were complete, the 3rd graders wrote a script describing their favorite scene from their fantasy book. With the help of classmates, the students presented their scenes in a puppet show. The third graders did a fantastic job presenting their fantasy book report! The final deadline to sign up for the Everest Totally Catholic VBS is June 20. But don t wait and possibly miss the coolest adventure of the summer! Youths ages 4-11 can enjoy a week of Scripture insights, sciency - fun gizmos, fun games, cool Bible songs, and tasty treats. All these activities are designed to help our faith in Jesus flow into our daily life. This is a combined effort of the parishes in Oak Park and River Forest, this adventure will be held at St. Edmund Parish during the week of Monday Friday, July 13 17, from 9:00 am to noon. There is a small fee. More details and the registration form are available on the parish website, www.stlukeparish.org, under the Education/Religious Education tab, or call the Religious Education Office at 771-5959.
