St. John the Evangelist Weekly Bulletin Dear Folks, THE MOST HOLY TRINITY Alas, you may all rest. The final graduation from the parish Kindergarten, has been completed. The hotels with distant relatives are emptying out and the lines at Cold Stone and the Carousel Ice Cream shops are ever so slightly shortening in length. Now, let the Summer begin. During the Summer the parish will host the weekly RCIA program for those interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. It will take place each Tuesday night, starting at 7:00 o'clock. The Summer program is offered at a leisurely pace appropriate to the Southern life. Please, Please, Please. Send me pictures of all your loved ones serving in the military. I want very much to replace the old pictures that were set up seven years ago. Shucks, I think some of those youngsters may be general officers by now. Not really, but they surely are farther along than seven years ago. You can drop the pictures off at the rectory or parish officers. You may even E-Mail them to me and I will take them down to Walgreens and have nice pictures printed up. Why the importance of a picture board? It helps to see the young we are praying for each week. May the angels watch over each and every one of them and keep them safe. The annual Faith Camp takes place this week. We will be blessed to have two wonderful religious, of the Dominican Order, join us. Now, I ask myself, how do you know they are all that wonderful? Because they are all that religious. So you say. One of the young ladies of the parish, Sr. Mary Bernard, aka Caitlin Palmer, joined the Dominicans several years ago and when she comes up on her final vows we are going to collect a busload of young and old and go to Ann Arbor to celebrate one of our own because she is that religious. Of course, there is another also considering a chance to follow the steps of the good Sr. Mary Bernard. God bless them one and all. The Sisters will be here for the week. Tuesday night is the big night for an open forum for any in the parish who would like to come meet and greet, the good sisters. The welcome party will take place in Mercy Hall, starting at 6:30 PM. Come young, come old, come simple and bold. Let us pray for vocations. Not sure anyone has noticed but the time for the diocesan work camp quickly approaches and we have nearly twenty five of the young ones going off for the restoration of the homes of the poor down near Fredericksburg. Oh they will be busy building fences and stair cases, painting the interior walls of houses and changing out the doors, windows and roofs. Some will learn how to patch damaged walls and ceilings. They will learn something about plumbing and fixing toilets and showers. But the best thing they will learn is the importance of their Faith expressed with daily Mass and evening adoration of the Eucharist. They will smile at their unknown peers, never to see them again, but sharing the moment when together they leave their mark of integrity and hard work on some poor couple with a broken family in a broken home. As the locale for work camp is not far from our homes they may even drive back to see the sights they were a part of just to drive by. With grandparents who may live in rather attractive retirement communities they will meet the elderly left alone, who with tears in their eyes, will teach the young the value of just saying, thank you. When they do come home I will ask them to speak at all the Masses so you hear where the young apostles have gone that week. This is the annual time of year where I offer to assist those who would like to discuss annulments. God help those who have suffered so much from broken marriages and may be caught up with marriages outside the Church. I am happy to reach out to them in their time of difficulty. Please call me on my cell phone: 703-626-8113 or reach me at frgould@gmail.com. In closing, in the Summer time we have many members of the parish Eucharistic adoration society go on vacation, leaving us desperately short for adorers. I am asking all the parishioners to join together before the Lord this summer. The hours are: Wednesday 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Thursday morning at 9:00 AM until Saturday morning at 8:30 AM. A sign up book can be found in the front entrance to the Church, see you there. Let us pray for one another. Collegiate answer: The first Pentecost took place on the Jewish Feast of Weeks, marking the first Passover/Escape from Egypt. The Holy Spirit is thought to have come down on the people around 9:00 in the morning. In Acts 2:15 Peter acknowledges that the crowd is not drunk on the occasion of the Pentecost for it was only 9:00 o clock in the morning. Time for morning services in the Temple. Collegiate question: What were the number of days counted from the Escape from Egypt to the reception of the Ten Commandments, on Mt. Sinai? And why is that number significant for our contemporary devotional experience? Good hunting. Father Gould 4
