Throughout all of these periods, advances, and wonders, Masons and their values have played an integral part. This year, therefore, I would advise all of my brethren to take their part in history by looking to the past and the future of Masonry and its impact on the world by practicing its teachings in the present of each day. The New Year always holds a feeling for hope and promise for new adventures, friendships, prosperity, etc. For me, the prospect of 2017 is no different as I wish to experience all of these marvelous ideals and the potential that they offer our fraternity, but realize that it is only with you fine men by my side that the positive vision I now hold can come true. I welcome all of you to contact me by email, phone, or even at lodge to advise me of any special projects that you would like to take on or simply to share ideas about how to grow our Masonic community and bring all that is good in it to our neighbors and fellow inhabitants of this rather unique blue marble upon which we float in the boundless limits of space. If you were at the Installation of Officers on December 10, 2016, you heard me speak of my designs for a prosperous year at the lodge and the desire to bring more brothers back through our doorways. At the dinner that I held for the 2017 Officers on December 19, 2016 we roughed out some goals and ideas to meet those goals for the growth of our lodge. Come to the next Stated Meeting, and let us know what you have in mind for your own Masonic ideals and for the betterment and prosperity of the fraternity as a whole. This marvelous thing we call Masonry belongs to no man it belongs to all mankind and shapes mankind in better ways every day. Happy New Year and I look forward to seeing you all at lodge soon! From The West It is wonderful to have the support of the Brethren as I serve in the West this year as your Senior Warden. Thank you very much for your confidence and for your vote to place me in this Masonic office. After the December 10, 2016, officer installation we practiced exemplifying a First Degree at the lodge on December 14, 2016. Brother Richard Vaughn sat in the East as Acting Worshipful Master and did a great job. The practice was well attended and new officers sat in their chairs for it. Officers planning meeting was held on December 19, 2016, led by WB Nick to organize events for the coming year with his elected and selected 2017 officers. On the morning of December 21, 2016, the Bikes for Books presentation was held at Sierra Middle School at 9:00 am. Twelve bicycles and three E-Readers were given to students. Six bicycles were purchased by the lodge with six bicycles paid for by our corporate partner DCI Desert Dialysis for the school children. The attending lodge Brothers had a wonderful time watching and hearing over 1,000 students stomping their feet excitedly waiting to see whose names were drawn to receive the 12 bikes. Brother Wesley Yandell oversaw the event and made the bicycle presentations. By order of the Worshipful Master, the lodge was dark for December 21, 2016, so Masons to be at home with their families. On December 28, 2016, Worshipful Brother Jean Claude Malterre spoke on the subject he titled, Of Architects. The speech was well delivered and enjoyed by all. Refreshments were served by our wonderful Junior Warden, WB Hannes Meyer. The first stated meeting of the New Year is on January 4, 2017. Degrees, practices or Masonic education offerings will be held on the following three Wednesdays in January depending upon the readiness of our candidates to proceed. A Trustees meeting is scheduled on January 12, 2017. I look forward to serving you this year as your Senior Warden. Never hesitate to let me know what I can do to better serve you in the lodge. -William Wilkinson, Senior Warden SAHUARO HIGH TWELVE #523 Meets every Thursday 8:00AM Village Inn at 6251 N. Oracle Rd. Brethren, From The South A new year has begun for Tucson Lodge #4. Officers were duly elected, installed and are prepared to do the good work. I found myself back in the line of duty and I appreciate the trust that was put forth by electing me in the line again. The office of Junior Warden carries the responsibility for the kitchen and the nutritional wellbeing of the Lodge. I will be asking for assistance in carrying out the task and I already thank those who have offered to help. The Lodge is, as we have learned from the first degree lecture, an assembly of brothers. It is beyond an organization where we go to and expect particular services rendered to us because we are paying for it. The Lodge is much more like a living organism, where the individual members work and function together. It thrives from the energy put in by each brother. In reference to the famous presidential quote of J.F.K: Ask not what your Lodge can do for you, ask what you can do for your Lodge. When we work together with this attitude, 2017 will be a good year. Pat & Bill had been Lodge Brothers for many years. They had promised each other that the first to go to the Grand Lodge above would return to tell the other whether there really were Lodges in Heaven and what they were like. By and by, it came to pass that Bill went first. One day shortly after, Pat was working in his garden when he heard a whispered voice, "Pssst Pat!" He looked around but saw nothing. A few moments later he heard, now quite clearly "Pat! Its me, Bill!" "Bill?!?!?" Pat exclaimed, "are you in Heaven?" "Indeed I am" replied Bill. Pat paused for a while to get over the shock and then said "Well, Bill, are there Lodges up there in Heaven?" "There certainly are, Pat. There are Lodges all over and they are quite magnificent, equal or better to Great Queen Street. The meetings are well attended, the ritual is word perfect, the festive board fantastic and the spirit of Masonic Fellowship is all pervasive." "My goodness, Bill," said Pat, "It certainly sounds very impressive but for all that you seem rather sad. Tell me old friend, what is the matter." "Well, Pat, you are right. I have some good news and some bad." "OK, so what's the good news?" "The good news is that we are doing a 3rd this coming Wednesday." "Great" said Pat. "What s the bad news then?" "You re the Senior Deacon! I would like to ask, that everyone signs up for our dinners at Stated Meeting night. Knowing in advance how many to expect makes planning much easier. The sign-up sheet is always posted in the dining hall. Additionally you can contact the secretary or me to sign up. I am looking forward to another good year and hope to see many of you for the planned events. -Hannes Meyer, Junior Warden
