As a Christian community, we help individuals and families become more Christ-present through worship, education and service. We are actively committed to reach out selflessly and prayerfully to others. We warmly and openly welcome all who seek to deepen their faith in Jesus Christ. I Have Called You By Name... Our Parish Theme! St. John the Evangelist has created this theme in an effort to highlight that we have all been called by God and to emphasize places within our community where others can execute their time and talents. During this Christmas season, it is important to acknowledge those who have less than us and how we can spread Jesus love through the ways he calls us. The coming of the Lord represents a new beginning and these groups all help those who may need a new start. Today, remember how God has blessed you. How has God called you to spread his love? St. John Stephen Ministry The Christmas season can be especially hard on some people. The St. John s Stephen Ministry has trained Christian care-giving men and women who can listen with a warm heart and show God s love to those in our parish, and in our community, who are hurting. This ministry is here for you to be there for someone in need. Often times, hardships are more than what we can handle on our own. Through the help of a Stephen Minister, he or she brings the presence of a caring Christian friend to walk through and journey with us in those tough times. Is God calling you to reach out to a Stephen Minister? Or is He calling you to reach out for someone you know? Now is the time to get the help you need to find healing and peace. Call Scott Steinke at the Parish Office at (513) 777-6433 ext. 115 to find out more about how a Stephen Minister can be there for you. Christ Renews His Parish Christ Renews His Parish is an effective spiritual process of renewal which calls together members of our parish to experience personal and spiritual growth, both as individuals and as a community of believers. The weekends can be a wonderful time of prayer, fellowship, development, and enhancement in your own spiritual life with Christ. This is a personal invitation to the men and women in our parish who have not yet been on one of these retreat weekends! Don t let these pass you by because they are the only ones for the year! It is a great way to enliven and strengthen your own faith and our faith together. Men s renewal weekend ---- January 28 & 29, 2017 Women s renewal weekend ---- February 11 & 12, 2017 8 Catholics Returning Home Do you know someone who has drifted away from his/her Catholic faith? We may want to reach out to those disconnected from the church, but we aren t sure how to offer support. As baptized, practicing Catholics, we have a precious gift of faith and love from the Lord that can be shared with our friends and loved ones. You can make a dramatic difference in someone s life by simply reaching out to him/her and saying, we miss you. Christmas Means Family Every Christmas, we gather together with our family members to celebrate the birth of Jesus. As we break bread together, share a few gifts and some good stories, we are creating family traditions for future generations. As Catholics, attending Christmas Mass is also an important part of our Christmas tradition. Here at St. John, we feel that you are part of our parish family! Church is where you can receive prayers, love, and even help when you need it. We give each other support during difficult times and cheer each other on in times of great joy. We watch each other s children grow and learn about our faith. We volunteer side by side, ministering to our community. As a parish, we are truly family for each other as we travel on our faith journey. In order for our parish family to grow and flourish, we invite you to spend time with others by taking part in some of the many opportunities at St. John. If you ever need help along your journey, reach out to us. We are here to support our parish family. You are our brothers and sisters in Christ! Merry Christmas and have a blessed 2017. Joan Seibenick Business Manager Gathered In My Name Did you know that our very own Fr. Don is a published author? We are selling Gathered in My Name, his new book filled with Gospel reflections, for $10. These gospel conversations will help people begin to understand what Jesus offers us and to accept the challenge to hear the calling to be the people Christ calls us to be; people who will share God s love with others. These reflective books on the Gospel of Matthew will make great Christmas gifts, so be sure to pick up a few in our Parish Office during office hours! 9 Show N Tell Mass for Adults Monday, Jan. 9, 7 8:30 p.m. in the St. John Chapel Please join us in learning about Mass as Deacon Jerry Barney explores the various parts of the Mass, and the meaning of the symbols and rituals used.
