James 5:7-11; Matthew 16:21-27, 28:1-10 & 16-20; Romans 10:8-13; 2 Corinthians 5:17

James 5:7-11 (NET Bible) 7 So be patient, brothers and sisters, until the Lord s return. Think of how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the ground and is patient for it until it receives the early and late rains. 8 You also be patient and strengthen your hearts, for the Lord s return is near. 9 Do not grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be judged. See, the judge stands before the gates! 10 As an example of suffering and patience, brothers and sisters, take the prophets who spoke in the Lord s name. 11 Think of how we regard as blessed those who have endured. You have heard of Job s endurance and you have seen the Lord s purpose, that the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

Matthew 28:1-10 (NET Bible) 1 Now after the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. 2 Suddenly there was a severe earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descending from heaven came and rolled away the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were shaken and became like dead men because they were so afraid of him. 5 But the angel said to the women, Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.

Matthew 28:1-10 (NET Bible) 6 He is not here, for he has been raised, just as he said. Come and see the place where he was lying. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples, He has been raised from the dead. He is going ahead of you into Galilee. You will see him there. Listen, I have told you! 8 So they left the tomb quickly, with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 But Jesus met them, saying, Greetings! They came to him, held on to his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee. They will see me there.

Romans 10:8-13 (NET Bible) 8 But what does it say? The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart (that is, the word of faith that we preach), 9 because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and thus has righteousness and with the mouth one confesses and thus has salvation. 11 For the scripture says, Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame. 12 For there is no distinction between the Jew and the Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all, who richly blesses all who call on him. 13 For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV) 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

You have heard of Job s endurance and you have seen the Lord s purpose, that the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

Matthew 16:21-27 (NET Bible) 21 From that time on Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests, and experts in the law, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. 22 So Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him: God forbid, Lord! This must not happen to you! 23 But he turned and said to Peter, Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me, because you are not setting your mind on God s interests, but on man s. 24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, If anyone wants to become my follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.

Matthew 16:21-27 (NET Bible) 25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 For what does it benefit a person if he gains the whole world but forfeits his life? Or what can a person give in exchange for his life? 27 For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done.

Matthew 28:16 20 (NET) 16 So the eleven disciples went to Galilee to the mountain Jesus had designated. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came up and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
