The Wise Cynic Ecclesiastes 1:1-11 Key Text: But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ (Philippians 3:7) Key Thought: Only in Christ Jesus will we find meaning and purpose to life. 1) Intro & Context 2) Everything is meaningless (1:2-3) (cf. Mk. 8:36; Php. 3:7-8) 3) The nature of life (1:4-11) (cf. Ps. 8:3-4; 119:89-91) Yea, the world is established; it shall never be moved (Ps. 93:1) a. Always returning (sun, wind, streams) (vv. 5-7) b. Nothing new? (vv. 9-11) 4) The wise cynic (vv. 12-18) Yet man is born to trouble as surely as sparks fly upward (Job 5:7) a. Forever (v. 13) (cf. Gen. 3:17; Ps. 90:10; Mt. 11:28) For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened (2 Cor. 5:4) b. Forever (v. 15) (cf. Pr. 20:9; Eccl. 7:13; Rom. 3:23) c. Wisdom brings (v. 18) (cf. Or are you still caught in the cycle of the pursuit of pleasure, of attaining personal value in your work, and/or in the accumulation of honors and worldly stature? Where do you mine for knowledge and wisdom? Is it Godcentered? Or of human origins?

Prayer Gatherings Each Monday evening at 5:30 p.m. there is a prayer gathering held at Elim. Also, there is a Wednesday morning prayer group meeting in Pastor s office @ 7:00 a.m. You are encouraged to come and pray with the team members and share your requests/praises. Prayer Chain The prayer network is used when special needs arise during the week. The poinsettia plants may be taken home at any time now.
