Beloved, As we launch this new sermon series, God Always Answers and we change the Pastor s Pen into congregational testimonies, I pray for two things: 1) you are encouraged by our testimonies and 2) you come to realize the diversity in the meaning of answers. Here is the testimony of Rev. James Perry: Late one summer evening almost 20 years ago, I found myself praying to God in a moment of frustration, exhaustion and exasperation. Once again, I was at my sister s house to help resolve what had become a dangerous situation. This time the difference for me, was that at the end of the night, I stood alone and silently prayed to God to stop the drama. I remember pleading, God, I will even move in if I have to. (With the full intention of still keeping my own apartment which was not too far away as a weekend getaway.) A few weeks later, on an early Sunday morning, I sleepily answered my phone to hear one of my nieces shouting, Uncle James, they are taking us! My immediate response was, What? Who is taking you and where? In the end, the children were being removed and the first choice for placement was me. Suddenly, I was a single black man in a two-bedroom apartment with three girls. Eventually, I became a married man with daughters, grandchildren and a house. I now know, that on that first night, I prayed and Jesus answered. Honestly, it wasn t the answer I was bargaining for or expecting. But then, I will never really know who else s or what other prayers Jesus was answering that night. I can only testify that He answered and it has been one of the best answers I have ever received Perry This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us whatever we ask we know that we have what we asked of him. (1 st John 5:14-15) Reflection: Sometimes God s response is different than what you expect, but it is ALWAYS the best answer. With a Shepherd s Love, Pastor Lacey

ORDER OF WORSHIP 7:45 A.M. & 10:45 A.M. PRAISE & WORSHIP **THE CALL TO WORSHIP Come let us worship the Lord in spirit and in truth. God we approach You in confidence. Lord, let your will be in our hearts so that we know what to ask for. We know that anything we ask for according to Your will, You will hear. Not only will the Lord hear, but the Lord will also answer. Thank You Lord, for always answering and giving us what we need. Blessed be the Name of the Lord. **THE EVOCATION (In Unison) Most merciful and gracious God, You have been faithful in Your responses to our prayers. Open our minds and our hearts so that we will receive the good and perfect work that You are doing on our behalf. May the blessings You give us last from generation to generation. SERMONIC SCRIPTURE ~ Matthew 15:21-28 (NIV) 21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demonpossessed and suffering terribly. 23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us. 24 He answered, I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel. 25 The woman came and knelt before him. Lord, help me! she said. 26 He replied, It is not right to take the children s bread and toss it to the dogs. 27 Yes it is, Lord, she said. Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master s table. 28 Then Jesus said to her, Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted. And her daughter was healed at that moment.
