After 1722 lived near the present Riddicksville in the extreme northeastern corner of Northampton County, an area included in Bertie County from 1722 to 1741. 26 Mar 1723 Chowan Co., NC. and Richard Holland patented 460 acres west of Chowan River and west of Mirey Meadow adjoining Joseph Ballard, John Gay, John Davison and Godfrey Lee.[4] c. 1724 Chowan Co., NC. The name of was mentioned in connection with land grants on lapsed patents.[7] _ 12 Jun 1735 Bertie Co., NC. paid arrears of Quit Rents from September 1729 to March 1732, in the amount of 17 pounds, 6.6 shillings, on 440 acres in Bertie County.[8] Bertie was formed in 1722 from Chowan Co. 18 May 1738 Bertie Co., NC. witnessed the will of John Baude in Bertie County.[9] _ 01 Feb 1741/2 Northampton Co., NC. John Minsie of Chowan Co. to of Northampton Co. for 20 pounds current VA money 440 acres more or less on the north side of Indian creek and the west side of Chowan river, joining John Hooks, the Va. line, Robert Brasswell and Meadow branch, excepting 200 acres which John Mincie sold to Bryan MacClain, all houses, buildings, orchards etc, part of a patent for 640 acres granted to John Mincie I Apr. 1723. Wit: James Maney, Robert Shannan or Sharman.[10] 06 Feb 1741/2 Bertie Co., NC. Barnes," 150 acres west of the head of Chowan River and south of Indian Creek Swamp; witnessed by Peter Garland, Thomas Best and Barret Montgomery.[12] If William were born in 1710, he would be about 32; however, birth dates are guesses only. 25 May 1743 Northampton Co., NC. William Barnes of Edgecombe Co., planter, to James Many of the Province of N. C., merchant, 12 pounds current money of Va. 150 acres more or less on the west side of Buckhorn swamp or Indian creek, part of a patent to granted 2 May 1722. Wit: Barret Montgomery, John Garling.[13] _14 Sept. 1743 Northampton Co., NC. Nathan Barnes of Edgecombe Co., planter to James Maney of Northampton Co., merchant 5 pounds current money of Va. 50 acres more or less on the west side of Chowan river, joining John Robin, Moore's pocosin, Miry Marsh branch and Joseph Barnes, part of a patent to Joseph Daverson 1 Apr. 1723, all houses, buildings etc. Wit: Robert Tharpe,, E his mark, John Page P his mark.[14] If Nathan were born in 1708, he would be about 35 years of age. 15 Sep 1743 Northampton Co., NC. of Northampton Co., planter, to James Maney merchant of Northampton Co., merchant 10 pounds current money of Va. 100 acres more or less on the west side of Chowan river, and the west side of Indian Creek branch, joining the swamp and a small branch ( from my patent of May 2, 1725 ); Wit: Robert Tharpe, William Barnes, John Page P his mark.[15] _16 Nov 1744 Northampton Co., NC. John Hobbs of Northampton Co. to James Maney of Northampton Co. 20 pounds current money of Va. 30 acres more or less, joining John Daverson, a branch and a pocosin; part of a patent to John Daverson and together, all houses, buildings etc. Wit; John Porter, Sr., Edward Boyd X his mark, John Jornagan.[16] _12 May 1747 Northampton Co. of Edgecombe to Carr Durden of Nancemond Co., Va., 28 pounds 8 shillings Va. currency 440 acres more or less on the north side of Indian Creek swamp, joining John Hooks, the Va. line and Robert Braswell, part of a patent for 640 acres to John Minsie and excepting 200 acres on the sd. Minsie sold to Bryan Mcclam with all houses and buildings etc. Wit: Joseph Barnes, Elisha Durden.[17] Son Joseph Barnes may have been born about 1706. 22 Jan 1747/8 Northampton Co., NC. (co. not identified) planter to James Maney (co. not identified) 10 pounds current money of Va. 100 acres more or less, joining John Cone, Horse Pasture branch, as by patent to 2 Apr. 1741, all houses, buildings etc Wit: Thomas Uzzell, Joseph Barnes, Henry Gay.[18] _14 Jan1748/9 Northampton Co., NC. John Thorne (co. not identified) to Thomas Thorne (co. not identified) 15 pounds current money of Va. 145 acres on the water of Chowan river and the south side of Indian Creek swamp, joining Godfrey, and the swamp, as by patent to John Hook, Jr. 7 Nov. all houses, buildings etc. Wit: James Maney, Robert Gilliam, Daniel William.[19] 16 Jun 1752 Edgecombe Co., NC. made an unsuccessful attempt to patent 300 acres north of Toisnot Swamp.[20] 1753 He appears to have settled near the White Oak Swamp in Edgecombe (now Wilson) County. (Wilson was formed in 1855.)_ 25 Oct 1753 Edgecombe Co., NC. patented 179 acres adjoining the land of John Thomas.[21]
