The Evening Service 6:00 p.m. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (+ Congregation please stand if able.) WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS CALL TO WORSHIP (Ephesians 2:8-10, ESV) Mr. David Lauten + HYMN: Exalt the Lord, His Praise Proclaim CREATION Trinity Hymnal, no. 12 Exalt the Lord, his praise proclaim; all ye his servants, praise his name, Who in the Lord s house ever stand and humbly serve at his command. The Lord is good, his praise proclaim; since it is pleasant, praise his name; His people for his own he takes and his peculiar treasure makes. I know the Lord is high in state, above all gods our Lord is great; The Lord performs what he decrees, in heav n and earth, in depths and seas. He makes the vapors to ascend in clouds from earth s remotest end; The lightnings flash at his command; he holds the tempest in his hand. Exalt the Lord, his praise proclaim; all ye his servants, praise his name, Who in the Lord s house ever stand and humbly serve at his command. Forever praise and bless his name, and in the church his praise proclaim; In Zion is his dwelling place; praise ye the Lord, show forth his grace. + PRAYER OF INVOCATION + HYMN: Blessed Assurance ASSURANCE Trinity Hymnal, no. 693, stanzas 1-2 Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of his Spirit, washed in his blood. Praising my Savior all the day long; Praising my Savior all the day long. Perfect submission, perfect delight, Visions of rapture now burst on my sight; Angels descending, bring from above Echoes of mercy, whispers of love. Praising my Savior all the day long; Praising my Savior all the day long. CHILDREN S SERMON: Made Well Children s Catechism #22 Q. In what condition did God make Adam and Eve? A. He made them holy and happy. HYMN: Blessed Assurance Trinity Hymnal, no. 693, stanza 3 Perfect submission, all is at rest, I in my Savior am happy and blest; Watching and waiting, looking above, Filled with his goodness, lost in his love. Praising my Savior all the day long; Praising my Savior all the day long. PRESENTATION OF EVENING OFFERINGS ASSURANCE OFFERTORY: Lord, Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace John Rutter Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace; Where there is hatred, let me bring love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy; And all for thy mercy s sake. O divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled as to console; To be understood as to understand; To be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. EVENING PRAYER Dr. Bonnie Lynch, soprano Words by Francis of Assisi Elder Ryan Hudson + HYMN: O Breath of Life, Come Sweeping Through Us SPIRITUS VITAE Trinity Hymnal, no. 341 O Breath of life, come sweeping through us, Revive your church with life and pow r; O Breath of Life, come, cleanse, renew us, And fit your church to meet this hour. O Wind of God come bend us, break us, Till humbly we confess our need; Then in your tenderness remake us, Revive, restore, for this we plead. O Breath of love, come breathe within us, Renewing thought and will and heart; Come, Love of Christ, afresh to win us, Revive your church in every part. O Heart of Christ, once broken for us, Tis there we find our strength and rest; Our broken, contrite hearts now solace, And let your waiting church be blest. Revive us, Lord! Is zeal abating While harvest fields are vast and white? Revive us, Lord, the world is waiting, Equip your church to spread the light. SCRIPTURE LESSON: Ephesians 4:1-16 (Pew Bible, page 977) SERMON: The Church s Beautiful Unified Diversity Mr. Bryan Bult PRAYER MOMENT FOR MISSIONS Mr. David Lauten + HYMN: The Church s One Foundation AURELIA Trinity Hymnal, no. 347 The church s one foundation is Jesus Christ, her Lord; She is his new creation by water and the Word: From heav n he came and sought her to be his holy bride; With his own blood he bought her, and for her life he died. Elect from ev ry nation, yet one o er all the earth, Her charter of salvation one Lord, one faith, one birth; One holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food, And to one hope she presses, with ev ry grace endued. Though with a scornful wonder men see her sore oppressed, By schisms rent asunder, by heresies distressed, Yet saints their watch are keeping, their cry goes up, How long? And soon the night of weeping shall be the morn of song. The church shall never perish! Her dear Lord to defend, To guide, sustain, and cherish, is with her to the end; Though there be those that hate her, and false sons in her pale, Against or foe or traitor she ever shall prevail. Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war, She waits the consummation of peace forevermore; Till with the vision glorious her longing eyes are blest, And the great church victorious shall be the church at rest. Yet she on earth hath union with God the Three in One, And mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won: O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we, Like them, the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with thee. + BENEDICTION + CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE May the Peace (Benediction) May the peace of God our heav nly Father, And the grace of Christ the risen Son, And the fellowship of God the Spirit Keep our hearts and minds within his love. And to him be praise for his glorious reign, From the depths of earth to the heights of heav n; We declare the name of the Lamb once slain, Christ eternal, the King of kings. Reading, Sr. Sermon Notes The Church s Beautiful Unified Diversity Ephesians 4:1-16 Mr. Bryan Bult First Presbyterian Church Evening Service Missionary of the Week Dorciane and Andy Toth Dorciane and Andy (members of FPC) serve with World Indigenous Missions (WIM). Their ministry has returned to the site of some of their original efforts the Southern Mexican Highlands. They are helping with the formation of a Presbytery of indigenous churches with the expectation that Mexican Presbyterian Church will bring them into their fold. The Toths have four grown children. Ephesians 4:1-16 I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. 7 But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift.8 Therefore it says, When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men. 9 (In saying, He ascended, what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth?10 He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the

heavens, that he might fill all things.) 11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. 15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

May the Peace (Benediction) May the peace of God our heav nly Father, And the grace of Christ the risen Son, And the fellowship of God the Spirit Keep our hearts and minds within his love. And to him be praise for his glorious reign, From the depths of earth to the heights of heav n; We declare the name of the Lamb once slain, Christ eternal, the King of kings.
