At the rear of church is The Haven, a glazed room where parents can take babies or children who are too young to join the children s groups and need some space to wriggle, crawl or cry! There are toys and books in boxes underneath the seats to help keep babies and toddlers entertained. The church hall can be found through the rear doors of the church. In the hall you will find toilets and baby changing facilities (in the disabled toilet). Holiday Club Thank You A big thank you to everyone who gave up so much of their time to make holiday club such a fantastically enjoyable time for all. The children enjoyed four days packed with songs, drama, teaching, crafts and sport, as well as silly games and the now legendary daily gunging! None of this would have been possible without all of you who helped during the week. Thank you.

Family News Geraldine and Paul Ellis are sad to announce that Geraldine s brother Bob Harriss has passed away. The funeral service will take place on Monday 7 th September at 1.30pm at St Paul s Church, Boundary Road. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. A Message from the Rootham Family The Rootham family would like to express their thanks for the donations in Andrew's memory which were made at his funeral service, totalling 1693.16. This will be divided between Autism East Midlands and the Intensive Care Unit at QMC, and is in addition to the incredibly generous financial support that so many gave to Andrew s family during his illness. Going to University? Learn to manage your money - free course for Students St Luke s Church is running a Student CAP Money Course again this September aimed at those students starting university. The course will run on Wednesday 16 th September from 10.30am to 3.00pm at St Luke s Church, Leahurst Road, West Bridgford. The CAP course aims to give information and support to young people who may be worried about making their student loan last or managing their money whilst away from home. As well as offering practical tips on money management and a chance to discuss budgeting with trained course advisors, the student CAP course also includes a free pizza lunch and networking opportunity for local young people. Book Group The Evening Book Group is reading Sweet Tooth by Ian McEwan and will be meeting to chat about it on Monday 7 th September at 8.00pm - now at Daphne Carter's house,49 Cambridge Road. Messy Monday! Starting on 7 th September, Messy Church is moving to Monday afternoons. The sessions will be just the same as always, taking place in church and generally on the first Monday of each month. The autumn term card is at the back of church please take one. Invite your friends with families along - Messy Church is a way of being church for families involving lots of fun! The theme for September s session is The Biggest Party Ever. Half Marathon Sponsorship A message from Alex Markland: I am running a half marathon on September 27th with a group of friends to raise money for the Ellen Macarthur Cancer Trust. It is a great charity that gives young people battling cancer the opportunity to go on life changing sailing trips, and a charity which has personal links with a member of the team. Dementia Friends Awareness Information Session As part of the deanery s commitment to offer support for and raise awareness about mental health issues, they will be holding a Dementia Friends awareness information session on Tuesday 6 th October at St Peter's Church in Ruddington. Sue Morris from St Luke's Gamston will be sharing her expertise as an Alzheimer's Society Dementia Friends Champion and will cover what it's like to live with dementia and some guiding principles that can help anyone become more "dementia friendly". It is open to all and would be beneficial to anyone who ever comes into contact with someone with memory impairment or one of the dementia illnesses such as Alzheimer's Disease. Seniors Bible Group To link in with Lee's sermons on Moses and the Book of Exodus this term, the Seniors Bible Group will be studying the Ten Commandments. They will be using DVDs by Canon J John in which he presents the commandments in a positive light showing that, far from being a set of rules to restrict us, they are the key to finding a framework for life. Regardless of age anyone is welcome to join us in the Church
