He began working as a blacksmith until he was about 21, when he moved back to Kentucky and operated a ferry and ran a farm with Joel Bonar. He fell in love with one of Joel's daughters while working with him. He married Jane Armilda Bonar there on January 3, 1860. Right after they were married, they moved back to Fountain County Indiana. In 1865, they returned to Kentucky to take over the old farm as Joel Bonar had died and his wife needed help running the place. In 1890 Ira and Jane moved to Mt. Auburn, Indiana with their son George. It was here Ira died in 1920. The children of Ira Sharon were: WILLIAM HUGH SHARON born 1860 and died 3 days later. JAMES ARDEN SHARON born about 1862 and died a year and a half later.

CHARLES JOEL SHARON born in 1864 and died in his eleventh month. JOHN ALBERTUS SHARON born in 1867. He married Sallie M. Yelton on February 28, 1889 and after her death married Edith Davis. ELIZABETH KATHERINE SHARON born in Kentucky about 1869 and married John Lewis Perry on November 20, 1890. Their children were: Jane Perry married Clarence Kelly. Bernard Perry married Elizabeth Pardi. Sarah (Sally) Perry married William Kirby. James Perry married Lucille Colbert. Frances Perry married Timothy Kelly. John Perry married Evelyn Kelly. Henry Perry married Esther Kelly. Helen Perry married Kirby Reinersman. Joseph Perry married Ethel Faris. Minnie Estella Perry GEORGE LORENZO SHARON born in Kentucky November 18, 1873 and died in 1965. He married Minnie Hall April 4, 1899. She was born April 4, 1876 and died in 1965. They had four children: William Hall Sharon born in 1900. He married Mary M. Cummins on January 15, 1922. Fred Curtis Sharon born in 1902. Robert Emsley Sharon born in 1904. He married Ann T. Brown. Eugene Glee Sharon born in 1906. SALLIE EVANGELINE SHARON was born in 1879. She married Albert Douglas Moore on March 11, 1899. ================================ I'm not sure from where this came. Mr. Sharon was a member of the Kentucky Legislature around the years 1902 or 1901. Operated a ferry at Menzies for many years. This ferry was known as Bonar's Ferry. On account of the booms built by the Licking River Lumber Co. of Boston, the ford was not passable much of the time, hence the ferry. When the river was low, no charge was made for ferriage: when the water was too high to ford, a charge was made. The ferry was operated with a wire cable and Mr. Sharon attended the ferry when he located there. Mr. Sharon was born in 1837 and died in 1920. He, with his wife, who died in 1918, are buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery. ================================ Notes of Gary Wright Mt. Auburn Cemetery also sometimes known as Walnut Grove Cemetery. Notes for Hugh Sharon: http://www.billputman.com/sharonkent.pdf - Bill Putman UPDATED APRIL 1, 2013 THE SHARON FAMILY IN KENTUCKY This section covers the family of Hugh Sharon and Jane Barnhill. Hugh was a son of Hugh Sharron and Jane Fisher from Juniata County Pennsylvania. After the Revolution, this family went westward about 1795 to Fayette County in Kentucky. Most of the family remained in Kentucky, but one son, Robert Sharon, continued on westward in 1831 and settled in Brown County Illinois. Another son, John Sharon, moved to Fountain County Indiana about the same time. HUGH SHARRON Hugh Sharron was born in Fermanagh Township, Juniata County Pennsylvania in 1768. There were two young Hugh Sharrons about the same age. One would have been the son of James Sharron and the other the son of Hugh Sharron his brother. Both James and Hugh were the sons of William and Margaret Sherron. This Hugh Sharron was the son of Hugh. James' son Hugh seems to have gone with his brother William to the Westmoreland County area in the early 1790s. Further evidence was shown in the section covering the senior Hugh Sharron. Here I showed how he was involved with Jane Fisher and she had a child, Hugh, by him who was raised by her parents and later her brother James Fisher. Since this Hugh Sharon and Jane Barnhill named a son James Fisher Sharon, the tie-in seems right. This Hugh Sharon in this section was the son of the Hugh Sharron who was a son of William Sharron and Margaret Chambers. His mom was Jane Fisher and he and the Fisher families all came out here to Kentucky together. At any rate, this Hugh Sharron was born in 1768 in the Lost Creek Valley of Fermanagh Township in what was to become Juniata County. He served in the Revolution in the Cumberland Militia. After the War, he returned to Lost Creek and married Jane Barnhill some time around 1790. Jane was born in Bucks County Pennsylvania in 1772, and was a daughter of Samuel Barnhill and Jane Craig from Northern Ireland. Hugh and Jane's first two children were born in Fermanagh Township; Samuel Sharon in 1792 and

Hugh and Jane's first two children were born in Fermanagh Township; Samuel Sharon in 1792 and James Fisher Sharon in 1794. Shortly thereafter, Hugh and most of the other branches of the Sharon family headed southwest to take up bounty lands. While several Sharon families settled for a while in Westmoreland and Fayette counties, Hugh and Jane seem to have headed further afield and ended up in Scott County Kentucky. Scott County is in north central Kentucky just below the Ohio border. They more than likely traveled by boat down the Ohio River. Now comes an interesting part. There was a newspaper article in the SHARON (Pennsylvania) HERALD on Friday October 5, 1956 which investigated the origin of the name of the town, Sharon. A descendant of this Hugh Sharon, Harold Culbertson, stimulated interest in trying to prove that Sharon, Pennsylvania was named after his Hugh Sharon and not after the biblical Plains of Sharon as originally thought. Further investigation indicated that although the town was formed in 1815 by William Budd, the first recorded deeds were handwritten in the name of Aaron. It is now believed that Aaron was in fact a misreading of the name Sharon and this early Sharon was the one who sold property to William Budd who built and named his Sharon Tavern after this early family. This fact was recorded apparently in a 1830 family bible of James Fisher Sharon. This may well have been the case, but I tend to doubt it. By 1796 this Hugh Sharon and his wife, Jane, were in Fayette County Kentucky where their third child, John Sharon, was born in June of that year. The 1800 Pennsylvania census shows a Hugh Sharran in Beaver County. Beaver and Mercer counties were both formed in 1800 out of Allegheny County. Sharon is in Mercer County. It would therefore seem to me that there was obviously a Hugh Sharon in the vicinity of Sharon, Pennsylvania in the 1790s, but that it could not have been the Hugh Sharon who was in Kentucky at the time. The Hugh in the Sharon, Pennsylvania area had a son, also Hugh, who went just over the border into Trumbull County Ohio in the very early 1800s and appears there in the 1810 Ohio Census. This young Hugh Sharon's life was included in the section on the OHIO SHARONS. Now..., back to Hugh and Jane. They remained in Fayette County Kentucky only a short time and then moved to adjacent Scott County. In fact they may not have moved as these two counties were established in the 1790s from VA counties and the borders may have been ill-defined at the time. The births of their next three children are all recorded as occurring in Scott County; Robert in 1798, Jane in 1800 and Nancy in 1804. Hugh and Jane remained for the rest of their lives on their farm in Scott County Kentucky. Jane died sometime in the early 1840s and Hugh in early 1847. The will of Hugh Sharon was proved in court on June 21, 1847. ======================================= Notes for HUGH SHARON(SHARRON): [JPendergrass.FTW] (from The Sharon Family History, pg 97-98) Hugh Sharron was born in Fermanagh Township. There were two young Hugh Sharrons about the same age. One would have been the son of James Sharron and the other the so of Hugh Sharron his brother. Both James and Hugh were the sons of William and Margaret Sherron. It is belived that this Hugh Sharron was the son of Hugh. Jane, their sister who married Hugh Sharon, Came to Scott County, Kentucky in 1797 from Mifflin County, Pennsylvannia. In their trek to Kentucky it is thought that Sharon, Pennsylvannia was named for Hugh Sharon (see Sharon, PA Herald paper October 5, 1956). SHARON HERALD Sharon, Pennsylvania October 5 1956. (Editor's note - in Mercer County; Pennsylvania. there is a city named Sharon, with a population of about 26,000. It was believed for years that the name had a Biblical reference, but during 1956 two reporters of the Sharon HAROLD instituted extensive research, and came up with facts which link Mercer County with Scott County, in an interesting and long forgotten bit of history. The following is

Mercer County with Scott County, in an interesting and long forgotten bit of history. The following is their story:) Folks in Juniata and Mifflin Counties in Pennsylvania are certain that Hugh Sharon, a lanky, dark-haired, blue-eyed farmer with a "voice like a bull", his wife, Jane Barnhill Sharon, their five children, and a horse and cow stopped in the Shenango Valley in 1796, and founded Sharon, Pa., before they treeked on into Kentucky. A family Bible treasured by Sharon descendants in Scott County, Ky, supports this claim. In the Shenango valley, the popular concept has been that the name, Sharon, originated from the Plains of Sharon mentioned in the Bible. But there never had been a written record of this origination until 1930, when a United States government project group analyzed and printed a brochure on Pennsylvania place names. A follow-up assignment was tackled by four officials of the Pennsylvania Historical Commission, who split the state into quarters and surveyed the reasons for the naming of towns in the areas. The work was so immense that it was haphazard. The tradition that Sharon, Pa., was named for Hugh Sharon, however, has been passed down through five generations of the Sharon family in Kentucky. James Fisher Sharon, son of Hugh recorded the fact in the family Bible in the 1830's. This Bible coupled with Notes for Jane Barnhill: Sources: Title: Families & History - Scott County, Kentucky: Established 1792 Repository: Note: Kentucky State Archieves - Frankfort, Kentucky Call Number: Media: Book Page: p. 147 Jane Barnhill and Hugh Sharon had the following children: i.
