West Franklin e-communicator From our Pastor Dear Church Family: We are getting ready to launch a new and exciting phase of our church. On Sunday, August 5 th, we will be starting our new contemporary worship service at 8:30 am. Our new schedule will be: 8:30 am Contemporary Worship 9:30 am Sunday School 10:30 am Blended Worship Please be in prayer as we begin this new ministry. We are excited to see how God will use this. If you have not already gotten some door hangers, please get them and distribute them in your neighborhood. Let others know about the excitement at WFBC. We have just finished our Vacation Bible School and we had a great week. Thanks to Emily Justice and all the workers who made it possible. We have discovered several good prospects and were able to share the message of Jesus with all the kids. There is an element of sadness in writing this as Emily Justice announced her resignation on Sunday. Emily has done a tremendous job with our children for the last three years. We will never know the impact that she has had on the children in our church. We are so thankful and fortunate to have had her with us. Pray for Emily as she pursues her education and seeks God s will for her life. I want to remind you about a couple of important events in August. I will be starting a new Bible study on Wednesday, August 8 th, at 6:00 p.m. entitled Questions about Creation. We will be studying the Biblical account of creation and showing how scientific discoveries support it. On Sunday, August 26 th, we will be having our Anniversary Offering. We will be using this as a Catch-up Offering for our General Budget. As we reflect upon all that God has done, pray about what God would have you to give as an expression of thanks for the many blessings He has given our church. In Christ, Doug Wfbc kids WORSHIP KIDSTYLE Worship KidStyle for August will be August 5th and August 19th at 10:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. SUMMER CHILDREN EVENTS 2012 August 1-Water Night at NPZ (wear your swimsuit!) *Preschoolers are welcome to participate if accompanied by a parent. Contact emily@wfbchurch.org if you have any questions. August 8 Final NPZ at 6:00 p.m. August 15 RA s & GA s start at 6:00 p.m.

Wfbc kids CON T VBS AMAZING WONDERS AVIATION Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for a WONDERFUL job with VBS this summer! I am always blown away by how many people it takes to make VBS successful and how many of you step up to the plate to invest in the lives of our children. We had around 75 children each day and over 200 at our family night. This week was incredibly special as our children learned about God s amazing power at work in their lives. We got to have some great conversations with the kids about following Jesus. Please continue to pray for the boys and girls that we came into contact with this week. God is truly at work in them! Thank you again for your hard work this week. May God bless you and may eternity show the fruits of your efforts. Blessings, Emily Justice

Student ministry Hello Church! I'm so excited to tell you all of what God is doing in the hearts of our students. We recently got back from Anniston, AL where we were a part of World Changers. God stirred up our teen's hearts and now they have a vision straight from the Holy Spirit. When a teenager is a part of something as big as World Changers it opens their eyes to see that, even though they are young and inexperienced, they can make a difference for Christ. As a matter of fact, that has been God's plan all along: to take those "inexperienced, under-qualified" individuals and do something great through them. He did that with Moses, David, Peter, and Paul. God doesn't require the experienced and well-traveled, He just desires a willing heart. Thank you for your prayers and for believing in our students here at West Franklin! I just hope and pray that the fire they have sets the whole congregation ablaze. God doesn't need any more spectators.. He wants a church that stands in the face of fear and conquers the world through the power of Christ. In His Service, Eric Lloyd

Senior moments Sixteen seniors enjoyed their tour last month of the historic Sam Davis Home in Smyrna and lunch at the famous Miller s Grocery in Christiana. It was a blessing to see Pat Humphrey among our group. Our event on August 16 includes a luncheon beginning at 11:00 AM, followed by entertainment by Col. Hugh Lewis and bingo. Many of you read Hugh s poetry in the Baptist & Reflector; he is a great entertainer and musician. He is a long-standing member of the Grand Ole Opry. Total cost is only $5 and registration is required. A Sign-up sheet is in the foyer. We express our Christian sympathy to Pat Page, a member of the Prime Timers, whose sister, Barbara had her home going last month. This is also Peggy Smeltzer s sister. She never recovered from a stroke and auto accident, but she is now healed because of Christ and His sacrifice. Many of our seniors attended her home going celebration. Margaret Ayers, a longtime member of the Prime Timers, moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky to be near her two grandsons and live at Morningside of Bowling Green. We will all miss Margaret! Two Kens need our prayers. Ken Dennis is at NHC after a fall and broken ribs. Ken Palmiter finally was able to have his knee surgery at Williamson Medical Center. Our Sunday bus schedule for seniors starting August 5 will only be about ten/fifteen minutes later than the present schedule. You may have heard that it has been so hot in Tennessee that cows are giving evaporated milk and farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs that s hot!!!! A word of wisdom from His Word: Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. (2 Cor. 5:1). Thank you, Lord!!! Submitted by John Rush, Senior Adults

WFbc missions UPCOMING EVENTS World Hunger Offering On August 12th we will launch our Bread Bank coin collection offering to raise funds for World Hunger. Every penny that we donate goes directly to someone in need of food around the world. Our goal is to fill a large water jug with change by October 5th! So start saving that change everyday!! We will have banks for those who would like to collect their change available for you outside the sanctuary on August 12th. This is a fun ministry that every age can help with!!! Thank you in advance for your support. Guatemala Mission Trip We will be having an information meeting about our Guatemala Mission Trip on Sunday, August 5 th at 2:00 p.m. in the Seniors Classroom. The mission trip will be October 19 th 27 th. If you want to find out more about the trip, please make plans to attend the meeting or contact Colon Pope or Tommy Sanders. Bridges The parents class will lead a mission event for Bridges (the Domestic Violence Shelter) on August 2nd, a Back to School Party for 15 children that live at the home. We will provide them with backpacks and school supplies. We will also have a night full of fun, crafts and games. We will continue to support this mission in the upcoming year by providing individually wrapped snacks and juice boxes. We supply the children with the snacks each day. So when you see them on sale, grab a few and bring them to church. We appreciate your ongoing support of this important ministry in our community. It is a blessing to show God s love to these children. New Mission Committee: Mission Requests Jennifer Jones Chairperson Randall Brummitt Jeremiah Fitzgerald Jim Harvey Elder Bonnie Voss Tommy Sanders Don Gower Please remember if you have a mission interest, event or request, please let our committee know. We are very excited about reaching out of our walls to help others.

Connect, grow, serve, go CHURCH-WIDE PRAYER MEETING On Wednesday, August 1st we will be having a church-wide prayer meeting starting at 6:00 p.m. Come out to spend time praying for the neighbors, community and the needs of our church. CHURCH-WIDE OUTREACH The next Church-Wide Outreach will be held Sunday, August 5th at 4:00 p.m. In an effort to reach the families in our community and surrounding neighborhoods follow-up to guests visiting is a great way to serve and reach those who do not have a church home. Plan now to come out and participate in this important ministry. There is something for everyone to do from writing note cards, making phone calls, to going on visits. Mark your calendar and we hope to see you there! ANNIVERSARY OFFERING On Sunday, August 26 th, we will be having our Anniversary Offering. We are using this special offering as our Catch-up Offering for our General Budget. We are encouraging everyone to help us with this offering as we attempt to express our appreciation for all that God has done in our nine years and look forward to what He is going to do. WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY On Wednesday, August 8 th at 6:00 pm, we will begin a new Bible study called Questions about Creation. We will look at the Biblical account of Creation and see how it lines up with scientific evidence. It will be a great study and look forward to having you there each week. WEST FRANKLIN LIBRARY On Sunday, August 12, the West Franklin Baptist Church library will have several tables in the lobby with books that will be available for pick-up. Shirley and her son Rick have been busy going through the inventory to make room for new books and WFBC will be giving the books away to anyone who would like to have them. Be sure to stop by the table that week and see if there is one that you or a family member might enjoy.. As always, the library is open on Sunday's 8 a.m. to12 noon and Wednesday evenings 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to check-out books. If you would be interested in helping Shirley Palmiter in the Library ministry, contact her at 791-4126.

THE CHURCH HAS LEFT THE BUILDING DOOR HANGER OUTREACH Despite a few days of intense heat and much needed rain, there were several people who did not let the inclement weather stand in their way! As our youth prepared to leave for World Changers Mission Trip, they put on their slickers and grabbed an umbrella to go door-to-door and drop off flyers to get the word out on our upcoming new contemporary worship service starting on August 5th. Several adults were also out different days of the past few weeks, working hard to hang the information on the knobs of surrounding neighborhoods. Pray as this effort continues and that people in the communities will respond to coming out to Begin a New Journey with West Franklin Baptist Church!
