Our Saviour s Lutheran Church Sharing God s Love with All! 16th Sunday After Pentecost September 9, 2018, 9:15 am Welcome - A warm welcome to all visitors and guests. We pray that God will bless your time among us with His Word and Holy Spirit. Young children are encouraged to be in worship and activity bags are available for their use. Please sign our guest book at the back of the church before you leave. We are so glad you joined us for worship today. Confession and Forgiveness. ELW Page 94 The assembly stands. All may make the sign of the cross, the sign that is marked at baptism, as the presiding minister begins. L: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. L: Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. Silence is kept for reflection. Most merciful God, C: we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen. The presiding minister announces God s forgiveness. L: In the mercy of almighty God, The service continues with gathering song.

Gathering Song.. Earth and All Stars!..(vs. 1,4,5)..ELW #731 Earth and all stars! Loud rushing planets! Hail, wind, and rain! Loud blowing snowstorm! God has done marvelous things. C: Lord, have mercy. L: For the peace from above, and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord. C: Lord, have mercy. L: For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the church

of God, and for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord. C: Lord, have mercy. L: For this holy house, and for all who offer here their worship and praise, let us pray to the Lord. C: Lord, have mercy. L: Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord. Prayer of the Day L: Gracious God, throughout the ages First Reading......Isaiah 35:4-7 L: The Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. Psalm Psalm 146 L: Hallelujah! Praise the Lord, O my soul! C: I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. L: Put not your trust in rulers, in mortals in whom there is no help. C: When they breathe their last, they return to earth, and in that day their thoughts perish. L: Happy are they who have the God of Jacob for their help, whose hope is in the Lord their God; C: who made heaven and earth, the seas, and all that is in them; who keeps promises forever; L: who gives justice to those who are oppressed, and food to those who hunger. The Lord sets the captive free. C: The Lord opens the eyes of the blind; the Lords lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous. L: The Lord cares for the stranger; the Lord sustains the orphan and widow, but frustrates the way of the wicked. C: The Lord shall reign forever, your God, O Zion, throughout all

C: Praise to you, O Christ. Sermon.... Pastor Peter Jonas Hymn of the Day.. O Christ, Your Heart, Compassionate..(vs. 1-4) ELW #722 O Christ, your heart, compassionate, bore ev'ry human pain. Its beating was the pulse of God; its breadth, God's vast domain. The heart of God, the heart of Christ combined in perfect rhyme to write God's love in human deeds, eternity in time. As once you welcomed those cast down and healed the sick, the blind, so may all bruised and broken lives through us your help still find. Lord, join our hearts with those who weep that none may weep alone,

and help us bear another's pain as though it were our own. O Christ, create new hearts in us that beat in time with yours, that, joined by faith with your great heart, become love's open doors. We are your body, risen Christ; our hearts, our hands we yield that through our life and ministry your love may be revealed. O Love that made the distant stars, yet marks the sparrow's fall, whose arms stretched wide upon a cross embrace and bear us all: come, make your church a servant church that walks your servant ways, whose deeds of love rise up to you, a sacrifice of praise! The Apostles Creed ELW Page 105 I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Hoy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Prayers of Intercession (Each petition will end with P: Lord in your mercy ; please respond C: Hear our prayer. ) Sharing of the Peace Offering The Great Thanksgiving. ELW Page 152 P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Lift up your hearts. C: We lift them to the Lord. P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C: It is right to give our thanks and praise. Holy, Holy, Holy Lord... ELW Page 153 Holy, holy, holy Lord, Lord God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Eucharistic Prayer. ELW Page 153 P: For as often as we eat of this bread and drink from this cup, we proclaim the mystery of faith. C: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

Lord s Prayer... ELW Page 153 Holy Communion - Lamb of God.ELW Page 154 Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. You who know our fears and sadness, grace us with your peace and gladness; Spirit of all comfort, fill our hearts. ELW #821 My Jesus, my Savior, Lord, there is none like you. All of my days I want to praise the wonders of your mighty love. My comfort, my shelter, tower of refuge and strength; let ev'ry breath, all that I am never cease to worship you. Shout to the Lord, all the earth, let us sing power and majesty, praise to the King.
