The Rev. E. Manzella, St. James, Wooster, offers this wisdom, Remembering our own mortality as ashes are placed on our foreheads is a moment of not only humility, but freedom. We remember that we are created by God for God. We are not God. All of the disciplines of Lent - prayer, fasting, almsgiving - are ways in which we make ourselves available to God and share God's care. None of what we will do are tasks that need to be checked off in order to have a holy Lent

This & That Holy Week and Easter Schedule WORSHIP COMMITTEE Due to the illness of one committee member, the fact that another has a bad knee and the third was out of town, it was decided that we would try to meet on Ash Wednesday before the 7pm service. In spite of the wicked weather we did meet before the Ash Wednesday service to make some decisions regarding Lent/Holy Week and Easter. There will be no flowers or greens on the altar during Lent and the brass has been removed from the altar. The service on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday will start at 7p. There will be a Saturday Easter Vigil with a baptism and we will start at 7p. We will have one service on Easter morning at 10am. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, March 10, at 7pm and at that time we will do more planning for Holy Week and Easter. Everyone is welcome to attend. No experience is necessary. This & That It is time to Spring ahead. Daylight Saving time begins on March 8. Turn your clocks ahead one hour before you go to bed or you will be late for church. For those of you who do remember and are here, please keep it down as I will still be sleeping. They re gone and I miss the choir interns Josh Barrus, Kennedy Mitchell, Colleen Shannon, Kate Shannon and Brad Sterner. And, either all or most of them are in the musical at South High School. March 17th is St. Patrick s Day. Saint Patrick is most known for driving the snakes from Ireland. It is true there are no snakes in Ireland, but there probably never have been. He is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland. And that is why I drink green beer on St. Patrick s Day. Lent began with the Ash Wednesday service. It was a very nice service with 32 very hardy souls who braved the wrath of Mother Nature with her snow storm. Mark your calendar. March 29 is Palm Sunday and there will be a pancake breakfast downstairs from 9am to noon. It will be time to think about having spring flowers on the altar for Easter. Time just flies when you re trying to shovel out of a snow drift. Thanks to Bill who does his best to make sure that the parking lots are clear when you are here for the Sunday service and for the groups who meet here during the week. For those of you who don t remember. Bonnie Hayhurst is a music therapist and meets with her clients on Mondays and Wednesdays in the old nursery room in the undercroft across from the stairs. She has named her company The Groovey Garfoose. She has two clients that are good musicians and come upstairs to play the keyboard in the church. It s always good to have heavenly music.
