Cross Poin t Newsletter Copyrigh t 2015 Crosspoin t Emmaus Pilgrim Welcome Edition Volume XXVII Number 9a September 2015 You've heard the 4th Day talk AND you have your own personal service sheet (finally!). So, what's next? On the Tuesday evening following the women's walk there will be 4th Day meetings that will give you an opportunity to form a new reunion group or join an existing group. You will hear some great guidelines for making a successful and lasting group and you will get some additional insight about the importance of joining a reunion group. The location and time of each 4th Day Meeting is always announced during closings of the men's and women's walks. You don t need to worry about missing the 4th day meeting because your sponsor, who made it possible for you to attend this Emmaus weekend will see to it that you make it to 4th day! They know that you did not get this far on your own and they also know you will not be successful on your own either. Reunion groups are instrumental in keeping this Emmaus flame burning inside you for years to come. Don't let this fire go out. ATTEND THE 4TH DAY EVENT AND JOIN A REUNION GROUP! Rondy Hunt Welcome Brothers and Sisters in Christ! We trust your experiences this past 4 days, have left you open-eyed and wide-eyed after being in the presence of our Lord and Savior at the thing we call Walk to Emmaus. The Cross Point Community welcomes you into our fold. As you continue on your Fourth Day, we pray that you will not waste a minute in spreading the news of our risen Lord and Savior to a hurting world. The Emmaus experience is different for each one of us, so don t worry if you are not feeling the same as your brother or sister you rotated around the table with all weekend. As we continue on this journey together, God will continue to reveal to us the path we are to take. From Rev. PJ Stewart Community Spiritual Director As you noticed, the model of the weekend was brimming with Servanthood. As Christ washed his disciples feet, we too are called to wash each other s feet. Please be in prayer about what your servanthood is going to look like on your Fourth Day. The purpose of the Walk to Emmaus is to build leaders for local churches. We hope you go back to your church revitalized and re-charged, ready to lead others to Christ and grow in their discipleship. We look forward to growing in faith and discipleship with you as well as serving together on future walks if you feel so led. The Crosspoint Emmaus Community Welcomes You! Karin Nuner Cross Point Emmaus Community Lay Director hen new Pilgrims leave W the setting of the Walk, they are enthused, excited and filled with the Spirit. They want to continue the experience of the Walk back home. The most obvious way to do that is to get involved in a Reunion Group. There you will find persons who have shared the same experience you have had and speak the same language. But the Reunion Group is not the be all or end all of the Emmaus experience. The purpose of the Walk to Emmaus is to build and strengthen discipleship in the local church. Emmaus comes from the church, and Emmaus returns to the church. (1) That means that the Emmaus experience is to be lived out in the local church! Emmaus IS NOT to replace the local church as an avenue of spiritual growth and worship or Cont. next page

PAGE 2 CROSS POINT EMMAUS VOLUME XXVII NUMBER 9A PJ Stewart continued discipleship. The Emmaus movement is intended to be a leavening influence in the life of the church. We are called to be witnesses of the vitality of the Holy Spirit in our lives through our participation and leadership in the local church. Local pastors are sometimes threatened by the renewed vigor and enthusiasm of the Emmaus pilgrim when that pilgrim wants the church to become like Emmaus. The best way to allow the pastor to appreciate the Walk to Emmaus is to offer yourself in service to the church! That will surely get the pastor s attention. Every pastor is looking for willing and capable laity to carry the message and mission of the church within the congregation and into the world. We are encouraged in the Fourth Day Talk not to act like we have all the answers for the church or to act like the church is irrelevant to our spiritual growth. We are to be the leaven in the loaf bringing God s amazing grace to a hurting world through our witness of faith, hope and love. The Church needs Emmaus as a source of training and encouraging discipleship IN the local church. BE THAT WITNESS and resource to your church! Katie Byrne is your Cross Point Emmaus Registrar, and now is the time to be in prayer of who God places on your heart to be a sponsor. Sponsoring is not a position to be taken lightly and without much prayer. Let God work through you, to lead you to those that He has a plan to be leaders in the church. Sponsorship forms are available on the Cross Point website along with addresses, email info. If you don t have access to the internet, someone at your church or public library can help. A ll of your Cross Point Emmaus Board of Directors want to welcome you, the newest Members of our community! By now you realize at least some of the work that goes into preparing and staging a Walk. Between walks there is also a lot of activity: volunteer applications must be received, teams selected, previous walks evaluated, leaders chosen, and preparations made for all the food, decorations, talks, agape, and logistics that it takes to put on a walk. There is also fellowship. It begins with your Fourth Day, and continues with Group Reunion and Gatherings. Gatherings usually are the second Saturday every month. At www.crosspointemmaus.org, you can find gathering places & times, volunteer forms, sponsor forms, maps, board member addresses, read the newsletter, change your contact information, and find other community members under My Contact. It is easy to sign-up on line for the prayer vigils and for food agape as well. The newsletter is emailed to you monthly, usually the first week of the month, and announces the gathering and contains other articles/testimony/pictures that have been sent to the editor using info@crosspointemmaus.org. The mailing address is: 737 14th Ave NW Ardmore, OK 73401. if you have a something you d like to share, contact me! I look forward to hearing from you! Your Newsletter Lady, Joy Douthit!
