The MESSENGER June 2018 Volume 6, Issue 6 As many of you know, Manchaca Baptist Church is turning 100 years old this fall! That s right, MBC has been in this community serving people, loving people, and sharing the gospel with people for 100 years! How exciting! I have been privileged to begin working with a group of MBC partners on planning a celebration for our 100 Year Anniversary, and I want you to know who they are so you can be praying for us. Our planning team consists of Kakki Allbritton, Carl Wren, Holly Gandy, Tommy Thomason, Amanda Burchett, and Stevie Helm. We have met a couple of times in May and are working hard on the beginning stages of putting several things together. We are all in agreement and excited to celebrate MBC as a church who has been IN this community and FOR this community for 100 years! We are going to be looking for stories of impact over the last 100 years to celebrate. God has done some amazing things in the lives of those at MBC and those in this community over all these years, and we want to highlight what He has done and bring Him the glory. People have received new life in Christ, marriages have been restored, those in need have received help, and on and on. This community is a better place because of God s work in and through MBC. The planning team is beginning the work of planning a great celebration for this 100 year anniversary, however the funds required to do this well cannot come from our general fund as that would disrupt the flow of normal, ongoing ministry. The team is still in the early stages of planning, we are estimating that in order to do this celebration well that it is going to cost several thousand dollars. Therefore, we are asking for your help. Would you consider making a donation to the 100 year anniversary celebration? If so, you can simply write 100 Year Anniversary in the memo line of your check when you give or you can give online to our designated fund for the 100 year anniversary celebration. This team is praying that our celebration will go far beyond our walls and communicate to the unchurched in our community that we are a church that has been in this community and FOR this community for 100 years and that we are going to continue to be a church that is FOR this community over the next 100 years. Will you help us celebrate and give God the glory for what He s accomplished while at the same time asking Him to continue using us to reach those in this community? Thank you for being such a committed, loving, welcoming, and inviting church. In His Name, Jason White, Lead Pastor 512.282.0875, x14 jason@manchacabaptist.org A Message from Pastor Jason White Inside this issue: Night of Prayer & Worship Children s Ministry News Student Ministry News Sr. Adult Ministry News 2 2 3 3 June Calendar 6 VBS 7 Night of Prayer & Worship Student Summer Activities New Members Prayer Gathering VBS Special Points of Interest: Senior Adult Outing New Message Series

Night of Prayer & Worship This summer, MBC is entering into a season of prayer together, and I want to encourage you to be a part of it! We finished a 3 part message series in May on prayer where we looked at 3 different prayers in the New Testament in order to help guide and focus our time of prayer together. We studied Paul s prayers in Eph. 1, Col. 1, and Phil. 1 where the heartbeat of those prayers was for spiritual growth for those in these churches. We studied Jesus prayer in John 17 where He prayed for the future church to live in unity with each other (that s you and me). We also looked at a prayer that Peter, John, and the disciples prayed in Acts 4 for enablement and boldness to share the gospel with the lost. These prayers are going to be the focus of the way we pray together during this season of prayer. We are going to pray for spiritual growth in our own lives and in the lives of others in our church. We are going to pray for each of us to live in unity (unbiased fellowship, serving together, focused on our mission, developing friendships, and resolving conflict in a biblical manner). We will pray for enablement and boldness to invite our community to church and to share the gospel with them when given the opportunity. While we can certainly be praying in our own individual lives throughout this summer, there is something powerful about physically praying together and with one accord. The early church prayed together, and we want to be a church who prays together as well. Therefore, we will be meeting to pray together each Wednesday from 6:00pm-7:00pm in the Worship Center, beginning June 6 (childcare provided). I hope that you will make this time a priority and be here as much as you can. Also, in order to kick off our season of prayer we are going to have a Night of Prayer and Worship on Sunday, June 3 from 6:00pm-7:00pm. We will spend time singing several songs together and praying through the above mentioned focused prayers. I look forward to participating in this special service with you and in praying with you each Wednesday throughout the summer! In His Name, Jason White, Lead Pastor Children s Ministry Can you believe it is already June and also the month for VBS! While we are busy working on VBS prep we have an exciting June of teaching all MBC Kids some very important truths. This month, we re going to start our ride through the bikes and trikes theme as we teach our preschoolers that the Bible tells us which way to go. How wonderful would it be if our preschoolers grew up using the Bible as their compass as they ride through life! Also this month our kindergarten-5th graders will learn that God is stronger than anyone and He can do things that would be impossible for you or me. He has proved this throughout history, but nowhere is this more evident than in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Because of what Jesus has done, we can have confidence. And when you put your faith in Jesus, you can live fully alive. I hope you will come be a part of our VBS week and I look forward to serving with you this summer! In His Joy, Jenny Childress Children s Director 512-282-0875 jenny@manchacabaptist.org Page 2 The MESSENGER

Student Ministry Hey MBC Family! Summer is upon us! I am praying that everyone gets some time to kick back, relax, and reflect on everything that the Lord has done over the past school year. During the summer we do not have our regular Sunday night programming, but don t worry we have tons of stuff planned to build community and fellowship. If you re a student or parent, be on the look out for events coming up this month to jump in on the action with us. Our calendar can be found on our students page on our website. Don t forget we do have our VBS coming up at the end of this month, and we are always in need of help from students and adults! This is an amazing way for Jesus to work through you to serve our Kids Ministry and families in our community. Last, I ask that you join Ashlee and I in prayer. Pray for God to allow students to build lasting Christ centered relationships with one another over this summer and for God to speak to our students in a special way. We love all of you deeply and are available for whatever you need. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary but what is unseen is eternal. - 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 Some from our flock have recently passed on from the temporary to the eternal and what they are seeing, feeling and experiencing is so far beyond the troubles on their journey. Still others are fighting illnesses, trials, losses and other troubles and it gives courage to know that these are momentary! So let s choose to rest, rejoice and give thanks for we know that glory awaits.
