Financial Information Sunday collection: (September 7, 2014) $7,841.00 God s Plan for Giving Tithing is God s plan to support His Church. Full tithing means 10% of income to God. We ask half of this, or 5% for your Parish Church. The Exaltation of the Holy Cross Today's feast seems almost to be a contradiction. Does it really use the word exalt and cross in the same title? How can a cross be something to be joyful in? Wasn't an instrument of torture and death? Wasn't it the most shameful way for a man to die? The cross was all those things but for those with faith it is so much more! When we see the Cross in our church or the cross we may have hung in our homes, it is a stark reminder of the great sacrifice God made for us. He sent his Son, Jesus to become one of us and Jesus died on the cross for only one reason- love. God loves each one of us so much that gave His only Son for us, in spite of our weaknesses and sins. No one is excluded from that salvation. And that is the reason we can exult or have hearts full of joy when we see the cross. Sometimes, however, we get busy about many things in our lives, many legitimate things - school, work, family and personal issues. So many things get our attention. We try to handle them all ourselves and it gets overwhelming. That's when we have lost sight of the true meaning of the cross. We see the crosses in our lives as only torture and pain. We fail to keep our eyes on Jesus. We don't let Him help us with our crosses. We forget he can help us find the answers. When the crosses come in our lives, that's not the time to walk away from The Lord but to turn again to him. To realize He can help ease our cross s and help us even exalt in them because through them often we find strength and the way to Jesus. Through them, we are reminded to reorganize our lives - to get back to the one who is our Savior - who lightens our crosses and promises us his love forever. Jesus tells us we will share in his cross but he also promises he will lighten them with his grace, his strength and his love. Can we look at the Cross and be joyful of heart? Why not? It is after all, the instrument that helped to save us and open for us the gates of heaven.
