For the first time and in direct response to the International Fraternity s lead, the National Fraternity in the United States has published a formation manual for initial formation which contains the basic curriculum for initial formation which is to be implemented in initial formation programs throughout the United States. Because of the importance of the information which will be shared at this workshop, the Regional Executive Council is requiring that every local fraternity in our Regional Fraternity must be represented by at least one person. Ordinarily, this should be the fraternity formation director. However, you may send as many people as you wish from your fraternity formation teams and leadership up to the capacity of the Retreat Center. The workshop will be held at the beautiful Mt. Alvernia Retreat Center in Wappingers Falls, NY, the site of our previous Regional Retreats. If you have attended our retreats, you know the wonderful accommodations and meals provided by the center. The program will begin on Friday evening, January 20 th at 7:00 pm and will conclude on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm. Dinner will not be provided on Friday evening, so please have dinner before you arrive at the retreat center. The cost of attendance at this workshop should be covered by the fraternity. The cost of $ 165.00 per person includes room and board and a copy of the FUN manual as well as the accompanying CD-Rom for each participant. The program will be led by Bob Fitzsimmons, SFO, the Chair of the National Formation Commission, and will include Father Richard Trezza, OFM, Regional Spiritual Assistant and member of the National Formation Commission as well as a contributing author to the manual, and Ron Pihokker, SFO, Regional Minister and contributing author to the FUN Manual as well as other members of our Regional leadership team. Please complete a copy of the following registration form (for each person who wishes to attend) and mail with your registration fee of $165.00 (made payable to Our Lady of the Angels Region-SFO) by no later than January 6 to Richard Spana, SFO, Regional Treasurer. A copy of the directions to the retreat center was also Included in the mailing. Additionally, it is available on our website for your convenience at: http://www.ourladyoftheangelsregion.org/formation.html I look forward to seeing you. Fraternally, Ronald L. CANTICLE CAMPUS CLASS OFFERINGS Chris Hickman, SFO and Francesca Wigle, TSSF are pleased to announce that Canticle Campus will be offering two classes beginning January 15, 2012. The 10-week classes will be based on two books by Sr. Ilia Delio, OSF: Clare of Assisi, A Heart Full of Love "Although this is a small book on the spirituality of a medieval woman from a glorious past, it is also a book about Christian life today. Clare's decisive emphasis on the person of Jesus Christ is an emphasis on the human person as well, what we are and what we are called to be." - From the Introduction. Franciscan Prayer "By examining Saint Francis' doctrine of prayer through the twin lens of Saints Clare and Bonaventure, this book provides us with a long overdue spiritual and theological synthesis which will be treasured by all who love the Franciscan tradition. A significant contribution, beautifully presented." - Lawrence S. Cunningham. (Published by St. Anthony Messenger Press) To learn more about Canticle Campus, go to http://www.canticlecampus.org/. For information or to register, e-mail hickmcm@hotmail.com or fwigle@gmail.com. All are invited and there is no cost to take the class. MEDITATION for the Month New Year s Blessing of the Home (done traditionally on the Feast of the Epiphany) The household gathers at the manger scene in the home. All make the Sign of the Cross while the leader begins: "Peace be with this house and with all who live here. Blessed be the name of the Lord" All respond: "Now and forever." Leader: "Listen to the words of the Holy Gospel according to John1:1-3, 14" (or Matthew 2:1-12) All respond: "Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ" Everyone then processes from one room to another. In each room, God's blessing is asked on all who dwell there. Each room is blessed with Holy Water. All return to the starting place at the manger scene, and join in reciting the Lord's Prayer. After a short silence for reflection and personal prayer, the leader continues: "Lord God of heaven and earth, You revealed Your only-begotten Son to every nation by the guidance of a star. Bless this house and all who inhabit it. Fill us with the light of Christ, that our concern for others may reflect Your Love. May we be blessed with health and goodness of heart. Thanks to You, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and forever." All respond: "Amen." 'The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn His face toward you and give you peace.'
