Peachtree Presbyterian Church ANNUAL REPORT 2 0 1 6
A Letter from Dr. Kannwischer Dear Peachtree Family, Transitions are hard. Ask anyone who has recently moved, switched jobs, renovated a home, or experienced the loss of a loved one, and you will hear a consistent refrain of stress. Transition times are challenging because they force us beyond our comfort zones where uncertainty increases and routines change. Transitions are particularly hard for churches. All Christian ministry is fueled by collective trust. All Christian ministry is both relational and incarnational in quality. So, when pastors retire or leave, the true resolve of a congregation is tested. Many of these congregations shrink back, look inward, decrease generosity, and become afraid. Fortunately, that is not the Peachtree story. In spite of all the changes of 2016, this brief snapshot of an annual report demonstrates both strength and hope. You leaned into the transition instead of away from it. You knew the Spirit of God was still here, guiding us forward in mission together. This report shows the deep character of this faith community. As we look back over the last year, it is natural and right to celebrate, saying, Thanks be to God for the blessings of Pastors Vic, Dave, Marnie, and Mark. I also want to add my thanks for your faithfulness and for the new chapter we are beginning in 2017 together. With hope in Christ, Dr. Richard Kannwischer Senior Pastor

The Journey Forward After Vic Pentz s retirement from 16 years of visionary leadership at Peachtree, the church was blessed with the calm, capable, pastoral presence and pulpit excellence of Dave Peterson as our Interim Pastor. Dave helped to bridge the gap for the remainder of the year. Perhaps the highlight of the year was the delightful news that the Pastor Nominating Committee had found a candidate. The Presbytery made the way clear, and the church rejoiced in September to call the Reverend Dr. Richard Kannwischer to become the next Senior Pastor of Peachtree Presbyterian Church. Through the transition from Vic Pentz to the guidance of Dave Peterson, and the strong leadership of the Session, Peachtree was poised to enter 2017 with a bright future. A Helping Hand What first started as a helping hand to students across the street has evolved into a multi-dimensional organization serving neighbors and strengthening communities. LaAmistad serves Latino students in grades 1 12 by providing them with afterschool resources that result in improved grades, better conduct scores, and much-needed advocacy in their respective schools. They emphasize life skills and instill a sense of respect in the heart and mind of every LaAmistad Afterschool student. LaAmistad also serves entire Latino families through English for Successful Living (ESL) classes and Parent Partnership Programming. In 2016, LaAmistad served 280 after-school students, ten after-school locations, and seven ESL locations.

Making Dreams Reality In Malawi, the government only provides funding for primary school; therefore, many students are not able to continue with their education because they are not able to afford school fees. In 2016, Peachtree members committed to providing secondary school fees for approximately 200 high school students. Through our sponsorship program and support from our Malawian partnership, students started dreaming of college and realizing that their dream could become a reality. In 2016, our members sponsored 59 college students, most of whom were the first to attend college in their families and in their villages. Lis estio.
